just wondering, will madge leave the play making to both reynolds and farah and make sutton as the extra foward on the field and make him run?

I think we've seen the best and worst of South Sydney tonight. Once again we started the game in a really complacent and sluggish fashion. For example, Politoni's try was the result of an offload with three players in the tackle, Kevin Proctor got a lucky try but that came about on the back of a penalty that was given away at the end of the Titan's set in the lead up and the penalty goal we gave away was due to Adam Reynolds putting a drop out on the full! This problem of lackluster openings against the weaker teams is the product of poor attitude; we've shown before that we know how to start games properly and we need to treat every game like we are playing the Broncos or the Storm.

The second half was absolutely brilliant. I think at times we can get a bit too bogged down in trying to shift the ball. When starting the game, we need to keep things simple in taking quick hit ups up the middle and really trying to play with a faster tempo - that is basically what got us back into the game! Once we get defences retreating then we can look to put on a set piece and/or look to attack teams with lateral movement.

In terms of the performances tonight, I think it goes without saying that Angus Crichton was easily our best player. The thing about him is that he is able to hit a gap or utilise footwork without sacrificing any power; generally when a player puts on a step they sort of lose their ability to bust through multiple defences because they are a bit off balance. Crichton is able to power through converging defence while changing direction, which is a rare ability. Add to this the fact that he has a good work rate and comes up with plays when we need them and I think you've got the best young back rower in the competition next to Coen Hess. Anyone willing to disagree?

In terms of other performance, I like the work of Zane Musgrove. I'm not really sure why he isn't starting games but he brings a real energy and aggression to the side and its no coincidence that we started getting back into the game when he came on. Other shout outs go to Braidon Burns - he looked really confident tonight and safe with his hands. I like the way he moves across the field too; he seems light on his feet and has got the style of running where he looks like he is gliding across the field. Bryson Goodwin put in a decent shift tonight and Tyrell Fuimaono looks a busy player too who always looks to get involved; he can be a bit erratic at times but I like his enthusiasm.

I thought Adam Reynolds' performance was microcosm of our side's performance tonight. In the first half he was all at sea, especially at the start of the game but grew into the game as the match wore on. It may seem harsh, but we cannot afford this from our halfback as better teams will not be so forgiving with us. Adam Reynolds needs to be more commanding and assertive in times of hardship; that is the nature of the halfback position. For a while when we were trailing 14-0 he just didn't seem to know what to do and it was only on the back of Crichton and other forwards that Reynolds was able to steady the ship. I really do think Reynolds can fix this issue by taking the ball to the line, drawing in a defender and passing. At present, he is too limited and that is why he isn't able to influence the game much.

Overall though we got the result we needed but what happened in the first half served us with ANOTHER valuable lesson that should have been ingrained into us by now about starting games with the required energy.

I just hope the wallabies aren't in a position to steal him.
Even though he started in rugby, I don't think he is really suited to rugby union. Where abouts would he play? In the centres? I think there are plenty of other centres going around in rugby with his skill set and I don't think he is big enough to play in the forwards.

Couldn't tell you. It's not a game I'm even close to being interested in.
But if his family are in to it he might be tempted to go for the international scene. If he was offered a chance that is.

Thank god for that boys!! I was really worried at half time, like really worried. A Titans reserve grade side was sticking it to us and we looked so flat.

Then bam, a complete turnaround in the second. We looked good too. Tight defence, high energy and finally, some free flowing attack! How good was it to see us finally throw it round? A top performance in the second half.

Walker: Not a great first stanza but made up for it in the second. Defused a lot of their attacking raids and looked dangerous while attacking. Scored an awesome try.

Johnston: Great game from him. He's looked a lot more confident in his running since his switch to wing, helps out the forwards more and doesn't get rag dolled so much. Two trys, the second of which was amazing.

Goodwin: Solid once again. Made that early error but for much of the first half he was one of the only players that played with energy and desperation. His try reminded me of Gray, just out of no where!

Hunt: Also solid. Had a few errors but he was aggressive in attack and looked evasive at times. In saying that, I'd still like more.

Burns: Much better. Looked more comfortable and calm. Showed glimpses of what he can do.

Sutton: Wasn't bad in his milestone game. Seemed to go back and focus at what he's good at - running. Ran the ball more and kept the defence on their toes. His input into the attack was awesome.

Reynolds. Great (apart from the first twenty). He was awful in that first twenty minutes, shit kicks and passes all the time. However, to his credit, he turned it around and ended up having quite a good game. Controlled things nicely.

T.Burgess: Not bad. Damaging runs and had good impact starting and then coming back on. Hands and lazy defence is still an issue but it was better.

Farah: Great game. Controlled things nicely around the ruck and had a good kicking game. His dart which led to the Crichton try was sick.

G.Burgess: Not much game time but looked okay. Some of his runs were like 2014. But like Tom, he can be lazy in defence.

Fuimaono: Good job. Ran hard and broke plenty of tackles. Good defence too. He's a talent.

Crichton: How good was he?! God, he's amazing. Can break the line wide open. Three sick tries, sign him long term Souths.

Turner: Was good. I liked his runs, they were harder than in recent times. We missed Sam a lot but Turner did a good job.

Cook: Very good. His speed was evident right away. Caught out plenty of markers and he is finally taking tackles.

Clark: Top performance. Played big minutes and really stepped up. Seemed to actually have leg drive and he tightened up the middle defence. Big game.

Cherrington: Like Clark, he was awesome. Huge impact off the bench.

Musgrove: Best game all year! Ran so hard and made so many meters. It was him, Clark and Cherrington that gave us the go forward.

Credit to Gold Coast as they played well. But also credit us our boys for that second half. First half was awful but the second made me so proud!!

After an odd first 20 minutes, once we got some possession and settled into the game i felt we never looked like losing, even after their try just before half time. The second half we took the momentum we slowly gathered in the first and ran with it. Once we hit the front the game was beyond doubt.
We grew in to the game and i felt that as the game went on we gained much needed confidence. It doesn't matter who we were up against, they've still got to be beaten and we did just that.

The most pleasing thing for me was AR found a bit of touch tonight. He is clutch for us and if he can have a strong run into the end of the season then we can go into 2018 with an element of optimism.
