Mate, I played in the halves, and this was back when we only played on both sides of the field.

What I know about split halves I've learnt fairly recently (past 4-5 years) through observation.

For the record I think it's a great idea and I don't know why nobody thought of it sooner. I always thought one of the biggest issues with setting up a traditional backline (even after splitting the centres, so obviously not that traditional) was that it telegraphed your plans to the opposition.

You see the Tigers constantly dealing with this as they try to keep Benji in a wider position without making him a target.

There are a few teams that still aim to get their five-eighth involved at second receiver (this is why most halfbacks play on the right with the 6 on the left) but it's usually only inside the opposition 20.

However, Bellamy 'won' a premiership with Inglis at 6 but still moved him to centre so they could accomodate Brett Finch (a halfback) in the 6 jersey.

Also the Tigers try to set Benji up wide every time they get possession (they play away from him on early tackles) but he still gets most of his touches at first receiver.

Yeah fancy that.

Ah well. As usual you don`t address the point that`s being put to you. Can`t do much with that I`m afraid.

I don't know about you, but I would never look at the metres gained statistics and judge backs based on it. Metres gained is primarily used to gauge forwards, and it usually gives a fair indication of the battle of the ruck when taking into account number of hit-ups, too.

I agree. But the stats are still quoted for backs and people still refer to them. I was only mentioning them by way of showing that stats don`t necessarily mean very much. As another example: what would you prefer - 42 Daniel Mortimer tackles or 42 Nathan Hindmarsh tackles? The stat is pretty meaningless here, isn`t it?

Sharks have done it again to us.

First smith, then tautai and cordoba.

They are Ripping the heart out of our crop of underperformers.

How seller hauraki didn't end up in the shire is a mystery I will never understand.

Bloody hell how many Parramatta players do they want to sign? Anyone else off contract maybe Cronulla should get them.
