Unsung Robson desperate to stay an Eel

Parramatta halfback Jeff Robson says he is desperate to remain at the Eels next season after proving he could be the answer to the NRL club's problematic No.7 position.

The 27-year-old playmaker, who joined the Eels from Manly at the start of the year, has been one of the unsung heroes in the team's recent good run of form which has seen them make an unlikely charge for a finals spot after three successive wins.

After making just six first-grade appearances in five seasons with the Sea Eagles, Robson looked to be drifting out of the game after being released by the reigning premiers before being given a lifeline by Eels coach Daniel Anderson.

Anderson handed Robson a one-year deal to be the club's third-choice halfback, behind Brett Finch and Kris Keating, and although he jumped at the chance to stay in the NRL, he also kept his job as landscaper to top up his salary.

However, with Finch being shown the door by Anderson after just three games, and Keating breaking his jaw in round 10 against Manly, Robson was handed the task of guiding a struggling team around the field.

After initially failing to make an impression, Robson and young five-eighth Daniel Mortimer have since developed a burgeoning partnership and he said he's desperate to build on it.

"It is just good to get a few back-to-back games behind me and get my confidence up," Robson told AAP.

"I never really got too much of a chance at Manly and coming here I have been able to get an opportunity and I want to stay.

"These are really exciting times at the club especially with the signings we have made for next season."

Eels chief executive Paul Osborne says a deal is ready to be offered to Robson's manager in the next week or so and hoped to be in a position to offer a new deal to lock Todd Lowrie who is also off-contract.

"These two guys have been in really good form recently and we want them to stay," Osborne told AAP.

No mention of Kinga...

i would either want to keep Kinga/Robson but not both.

Lowrie has been decent the last couple of weeks...

Robson, ask and you shall receive. He deserves it, but once again he will be our 3rd string half behind KK and Morts.

Not sure if he is the answer, although he's quite a handy backup.

I know KK and Mortimer are seen as the long term halves combination but which one is going to be halfback? Can Mortimer play halfback? Just wondering as I've never been particularly convinced with Keating at halfback although I like what he does at 6.

Mortimer is the long term 7.

K.K will be the 6.

Robson/Mitchell to share the utility role off the bench?

the only thing that pisses me off about Robson is his kicking game...

Yesterday with Mortimer off the field, his last tackle options were woeful. Every single time he kicked on the last, it went straight to the fullback...

I mean cmon... make some effort to turn them around or atleast put the ball up in the air so there is a chance we can force a mistake.

What is kicking the ball straight to the fullback going to achieve? FFS!

Its a skill, a very difficult one to master at that. Its not just the kicking of the ball but the positioning of the kicker in comparison to the fullback.

Its not a lack of effort but a lack of skill, thats why he hasnt played many games over his long career.

How do we know that DA did not instruct him to kick it to the fullback?? It sounds odd but maybe he thought the fullback could be pressured.

I am clutching at straws I know - but we simply do not know what the tactics were.

Great news. Obviously the Management Team now in charge do actually watch the football being played.
This is the way to develop great club culture.
My greatest fear is that Ossie will be head hunted at some point to replace David Gallop.
Dennis who?

Robson is the type that would be an ideal replacement off the bench or incase of injury (also meaning guys like Mateo, Hayne and Reddy dont have to be moved out of position). Robson would have to know that he is not the #1 option at halfback with KK /Mortz halves combo looking the most likley, I thought 55-60 might not be enough for Robson but hopfully it is.

On Lowrie, the guys has been good in the past 7-8 weeks and is also worth about 60K mark and would add alot of experiance to the squad otherwise I would not be fussed if we lost him.

Good stuff, I hope Robson and Lowrie can both work out deals to hang around.

Very rarley will anyone be instructed to kick to the fullback and normally it is a high kick or over the fullbacks head to allow chases greater time to get to the fullback and smash him. I will tell you now tha DA did not instruct Robson to kick down the fullbacks throat like he did on sunday... no chance in hell.

Looks like the club want to keep lowrie. Please don't offer him anything more than 70k. He is not worth a cent more than that. At his best he is a solid player and thats it.

Robson has nothing to his game other than very good defence. His kicking is sh*t, He has no vision, and no speed / running game. He would be an ok back up for 55k. aka WENTY!!!

Lowrie has had 3 ok games in the last 3 years and all of them have been in the last few months..... Let's make the same mistake and re-sign him again. FFS!!!
Lowrie's OK games are nothing more than average performances but for him just not to make a stupid mistake during the game is considered to be good.

Lowrie has taken 180k each year for the last 3 years. IMO he owes us for pain and suffering. So if he decides to play for free as a back up then yeah sign him

Hell.... Let's extend all the crap players contracts for another 5 years.

How many try assists does Robson have in 2009? I can't remember him setting up a single try.

If you're interested Lowrie is averaging approximately 65m and 20 tackles a game.
