I've got no problem with them using current events to tell a story. Even George Lucas said while he was making Episode 3 that it was a way of protesting the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. The Imperials in the Holy Trilogy and The First Order in the sequel trilogy are even influenced by Nazis FFS.
I don't really care about "diversity" in the cast. The way I see it if the actors play their parts, it serves the story and it makes for an enjoyable film then I don't care what their demographic is.
In "The People vs. Larry Flint", Courtney Love delivered the immortal line "People don't want their politics and their porn mixed together".
My porn and my Star Wars mixed together is another matter (though the Luke/LEia/Han threesome was a bit disturbing for obvious reasons!) but I don't want my Star Wars and my politics mixed together!
Right wing nutters wanted to boycott TFA because it had a black Stormtrooper and a Latino X-Wing Pilot and was directed by an all-powerful liberal Hollywood Jew. Plus there was a nutjob feminist who went on a YouTube rant about how she was being bombarded with ads for it all the time including on her own videos. Called it sexist and oppressive which is pretty hilarious given Rey ended up the focal point of the new trilogy.
I anticipate that someone will find a way to tie in race/creed/history when the Han Solo film comes out and it inevitabley deals with the theme of freeing Chewie from Imperial slavery.
My uncle had this to say when I posted the article to Facebook. I LOLd
I boycotted Snow White cause that bitch made all those little people dig in the mines.
Fair dinkum! The far left and far right are morons and we need to do something like the Gulgafringins did to their useless third of society in 'hitch hikers guide to the galaxy'
It's rare for me to agree with him but he's on point here!
