That Vader scene might just be my favourite scene in all of Star Wars.
What a beast movie!

Yep, watched it this morning. That scene left me in awe. f**king brutal, but gave me goosebumps. Vader is my maybe my favourite ever movie character. That Vader scene might just be my favourite scene in all of Star Wars.

For me this wasn't quite the at the level of The Empire Strikes Back but probably on par with A New Hope, putting it in the top three Star Wars films for me.
That said I was not a fan of CGI Tarkin and Leia. Leia especially looked goofy as f**k. Surely there was a better way of doing that scene by reusing archival footage or something.
Both characters were necessary to the story, but Tarkin probably didn't need such so much screen time and Leia's face shouldn't have been filling half the screen during her little cameo spot. They both looked cartoonish to me and out of place, even in a movie with several other CGI characters. They should have just not shown her face. I was a Tarkin CGI fan. Can't really have a movie about the Death Star without him especially because he's being used in Rebels the way he is.

Ben Mendelhson played the least comical villain in a star wars movie for quite some time - made the whole thing feel a lot more adult. Even TFA had snoke who shit me a bit.
That space battle and ending really brought the film around for me, the middle just dragged on but none the less I think 10 times better than that family disney movie - episode 7.
Need to watch again, saw it opening night here and it was in 3D and was a pain to focus my eyes on characters like Tarkin and Leia.. I had no idea that they were CGI until after the film so that might say a bit about my eye sight and 3D.
The Vader scenes were epic.
The first ACT of the film kinda felt like Guardians of the Galaxy for me with the amount of planet jumping.
Ugh I need more!
First 45 mins were an absolute bore fest. Started to get interesting after Erso was killed, and the final act was just f**king incredible.
If I were to criticise something I thought the transition of Jyn from jaded, give no f**ks about the rebellion chick into fully committed and giving powerful speeches to the council was a bit clunky. Some of the opening 30 mins they spent just vomiting exposition at the audience probably could have been used to give her a bit more of a journey to being a leader.
All is forgiven though because of that final battle. Just insane. Coming to the realisation that they are actually all going to die was pretty intense. The onions were strong in my theatre a number of times there!
One other thing that is not a slight on his movie, but just movies in general.... I really wish they would stop destroying them by showing them in 3D. The choice here in NY is either watch it on a shitty old screen, or watch it in 3D. I chose 3D, and will never again. At times about 80% of the screen was just out of focus blur. Surely in 2D it won't look so bad!
Really was a good movie. I like the added strength it gives to the OT as well, by providing a good reason why there was such a big flaw in the Empire's pride and joy.
Now I can enjoy one of my favourite parts of a Star Wars release.......reading all the neckbeards whinge and pick holes in everything.
