Auburn have lost 6 players from the side that almost matched Mounties last week to NSW Cup. Keighran, Sukkar, Solway, Mataitongi and Luamanu are the 5 man bench for the Bulldogs while Kamire will start in the front row. Mataitongi is a surprise selection after he butchered 2 certain tries that would have given Auburn the win.

Luamanu and Solway have been the Auburn props for all 5 games so far. On the positive side Lindon McGrady, Addison Demetriou and Hala Akoula are back after missing the Mounties game, as is Junior Tia Kilifi, returning after a 5 game suspension from last season.

Looks like Cabras going to continue their run of mediocrity of the last 4 or 5 seasons. Woeful for a club with the backing of their leagues club to continue to be middle of the road. Had no real success since Lenny Stacker guided them to the title. Maybe they should wheel him out of the retirement village.

Cabra are not settling for mediocrity, and so called backing from the club is limited. The Coaching staff had a massive job weeding out players who can and cant play and who was just turning up for the money and no real passion to play footy. I know the staff are already looking at who will be there next year or not and all players are held accountable for there contribution on the field. It will take time to change a poor culture that festered for the past 5 yrs.

Demetriou is not listed on the Bulldogs website and while Auburn did not play any trials, a number of Auburn players played in NSW Cup trials and Demetriou was not among them, so I think the answer is no. However, that does not mean he cannot receive a call up if form warrants.

I notice that he was named in the NYC team of the year in 2015.

The Concord-Burwood Wolves have given notice that they can be a force in this year’s Ron Massey Cup with a remarkable second-half comeback to stun the Guildford Owls 42-22 at McCredie Park last Sunday.
In the ultimate match of two halves, Guildford jumped out to a 22-nil lead after just 30 minutes – with Matt Ryan leading the way up front with his try and hooker Tyrone Shelley and five eighth Lazarus Brown also getting on the score sheet in dominant displays.
When former Newcastle Knight Rodney Mason – younger brother of big Willie – scored just before half-time to get the Wolves on the board at 22-4, no one at in attendance could have predicted what was about to follow.
In a second half that had to be seen to be believed, the Wolves scored seven unanswered tries and 38 unanswered points in 40 minutes that left the Owls shell shocked.
Wolves five-eighth Marc Russell had the ball seemingly on a string in setting up three tries from deft grubber kicks in behind a non plussed defence – Mason completed a career maiden hat-trick of tries from two of those kicks.
Former boom Sydney Roosters centre Latrell Schaumkel and former North Sydney Bears fullback Bernard Gregorius also helped themselves to tries as the Wolves buried Guildford in an avalanche of tries and points to send a warning to the rest of the competition.
The Asquith Magpies showed why they reached last year’s Grand Final with a gutsy 20-14 win over the Wentworthville Magpies at Storey Park last Saturday in the round’s other main game.
The ’Battle of the Birds’ lived up to the billing with bone-jarring defence the order of the day – the personal two man ‘war’ between Asquith skipper Joel Latham and ‘Wenty’ prop Nick Kassis a particular highlight as both men made a beeline for the other in attack and defence all day.
After conceding an early try, Wenty got the upper hand with Roydon Gillett’s try just before half-time to give the visitors and 8-4 lead at the break.
Asquith came out fired up in the second half with fullback Alex Nicholls-O’Neill capping a fine game with two tries – the key play being a one-on-one strip of opposite number Will Roper to score in the 55th minute to extend Asquith’s lead to 20-8.
Wenty winger Nick Walker bagged his second try eight minutes later to set up the grandstand finish, but superb Asquith defence saw the home side hold on to give Wenty their first Ron Massey Cup loss for the season.
Defending Premiers Mounties joined Wenty on 10 points in the Ron Massey Cup with a thrilling 26-24 win over a gallant Auburn Warriors at Aubrey Keech Reserve last Saturday.
In a match that saw the lead change a number of times in the second half, “The Mulga” did just enough to secure their five tries to four win as they held on against one last Warriors charge in the final minutes.
Alofi Mataele’s eighth try of the season was the match winner – sending the Mounties winger to the top of the Ron Massey Cup scoring charts.
The Windsor Wolves broke their run of outs with a stunning 38-16 win over Blacktown Workers at Laybutt Sports Complex last Saturday.
In a convincing display, the Wolves were propelled by doubles to winger James Goring and fullback Tori Willie to post a seven tries to three win over a disappointing Workers outfit – clearly spent by their run of narrow last minute defeats heading into the match.
The Hills District Bulls - fresh from a week’s rest - returned to form with a resounding 38-16 win over a disappointing Cabramatta at New Era Stadium last Saturday Night.
With new half James Wehbe starring, the Bulls won the match on the back of an explosive first half which saw the visitors lead 26-nil at the break.
When powerful centre Ben Vengoa scored his second try two minutes into the second half, the Bulls extended that lead to 32-nil to kill the match off as a contest.
‘Cabra’ mounted a comeback of sorts with three late second half tries, but Vengoa’s hat trick in the closing stages confirmed the Bulls’ dominant performance.
Finally, Western Suburbs had little more than an exercise workout in annihilating the hapless Kingsgrove Colts 84-6 at Hurstville Oval last Saturday.
Fullback Shannon Gallant, centre Tom Morrison and interchange forward Jackson Williams each got doubles in the 14 try romp for the Magpies.
Gallant indeed revived memories of 1930s point-scoring champion Dave Brown with his performance – landing a perfect 14 goals from 14 attempts in converting all of the Magpies’ tries while helping himself to a personal tally of 36 points to go with his two tries.
Gallant’s 14 goals was only one shy of Brown’s record of 15 goals in a match set for Easts against Canterbury in the 1935 NSWRL competition.
Wentworthville are now joined by Mounties and Wests on 10 points at the head of the Massey Cup table. Blacktown Workers and Kingsgrove Colts still sit jointly at the bottom of the ladder on two points each.
This Anzac weekend sees a full round of action with two matches on Saturday and four matches on Sunday - headlined by Wentworthville playing fellow powerhouses St Marys at Ringrose Park on Sunday as the curtain raiser to the Intrust Super Premiership match between Wenty and the Wests Tigers.

A barnstorming finish in the last 20 minutes saw the Guildford Owls score a stunning 22-18 win over the Belrose Eagles in the Sydney Shield match of the round at McCredie Park last Sunday.
In a match marked by defence that bordered on brutal at times, the Owls meant business early when winger Kelepi Manu opened the scoring in the third minute.
Belrose then steadied with tries to fullback Christian Bate and lock Michael Ferris to take a 12-4 lead to the half-time break.
James Mortimer’s men looked to be in control when centre Andrew Halstead completed a blindside movement to extend the lead to 18-4 13 minutes into the second half.
On the back of aggressive defence and a mounting Belrose injury toll, the young Owls came back strongly. After hooker Julian King and back-rower Taneikere Hokai scored to bring the margin to just two points, the ‘coup de grace’ came with seven minutes left.
A cross-field kick by Owls five-eighth Michael Markus was allowed to bounce by fullback Bate. The ensuing rebound was passed to interchange forward Mohammed Soultan who dashed 25 metres to score the winning try and inflict Belrose’s first defeat of the season.
Mounties took full advantage of Belrose’s slip-up to charge to the top of the Sydney Shield table on percentages with a 62-12 thumping of Auburn Warriors at Aubrey Keech Reserve last Saturday.
Wingers Sisa Balekoki and Maika Sivo, centre Finlay Dibley and lock Sage Wilder all got doubles in the 11-try performance, with fullback Jake Horton landing a personal tally of 20 points with a try and eight goals from 11 attempts with the boot.
The Peninsula Seagulls also took full advantage of their near neighbours’ misfortune by moving to second spot on the Shield table with an emphatic 56-16 drubbing of Western Suburbs at Forestville Oval last Friday Night.
After conceding an early 10-6 lead after Wests winger Jesse Jackson dashed 95 metres to score from a poor Seagulls cross-field kick, the Seagulls attack then took charge – scoring 10 tries in their win.
Centre Knox Time and winger Jeremy Marshall got doubles for the Seagulls, while half Luke Martin also had a personal tally of 20 points with a try and eight from 10 with the boot.
Blacktown Workers finally had some luck with a hard-fought 40-30 win over Windsor Wolves at Laybutt Sports Complex last Saturday.
Jon Letele and John Lepai both scored two tries each in the seven tries to six win – the Workers’ first win of the season to move them off the bottom of the Shield ladder.
Cabramatta continued their improved form with a convincing 30-18 win against an undermanned Hills District Bulls at New Era Stadium last Saturday evening.
After Bulls skipper Brad Horder scored the first try to give the visitors an early 6-nil lead, the Two Blues took full advantage of Bulls errors to come away in the second half.
Cabra five-eighth Ernest Alo starred for the Two Blues with a hand in three of Cabra’s five tries and five goals from five attempts.
Defending Premiers had to work hard for a time before overwhelming Asquith 58-nil in the last game that was played in the round at Storey Park last Saturday.
The much-maligned home side were competitive for nearly the first hour – only being behind 14-nil at half-time.
Wenty then took advantage of a tiring Asquith scoring seven tries in the last 23 minutes. Centre Cecil Mackenzie had a day out with four majors, with fullback Timoci Vatubuli and winger Ryan Burroughs baggin doubles.
Sensationally, East Campbelltown had to forfeit their match against St Marys at Waminda Oval last Sunday as they could not provide an official Club Doctor to be on duty for the match as per NSW Rugby League competition rules.
The League has since ruled the forfeit to be a 30-nil St Marys win as the official result – which sees the Saints move into third place on the Shield table, with Belrose back to fourth and East Campbelltown dropping out of the Top four.
Asquith remain bottom of the ladder with no competition points to their credit.
The Anzac weekend sees three matches on Saturday and four matches on Sunday – with new leaders Mounties taking on a fired-up East Campbelltown at Aubrey Keech Reserve on Saturday in the match of the round.

Kingsgrove stuck close to their average result but an interesting trend is that in the last 2 weeks both Wenty and Wests have followed 80 point results against kingsgrove with losses to Asquith, which paradoxically has clearly the worst result against Kingsgrove this season.

Another item of interest is that at least one player, Jack Seijka backed up from the Norths NSW cup game yesterday to play for Concord Burwood today.
