Finch to stay a Rooster: manager
September 14, 2005
THE manager for Sydney Roosters halfback Brett Finch tonight denied claims the representative No.7 was being shopped around to rival NRL clubs after a disappointing year for the Bondi-based outfit.
Finch was rumoured to be on the outer with Roosters officials and coaching staff despite having signed a new two-year deal with the club earlier this year.
The former Canberra playmaker, who turned in several indifferent performances this season, bore the brunt for much of the criticism levelled against the Roosters who missed out on the finals for the first time since 1995.
But Finch's manager Steve Gillis said Finch would definitely play with the Roosters in 2006, where he will form a new-look scrumbase combination with Bulldogs recruit Braith Anasta.
"He will definitely be at the Roosters," Gillis said.
As to the claims that Finch had been offered to neighbouring club South Sydney, Gillis was equally as adamant.
"I haven't got permission (from the Roosters) to negotiate so that's impossible," he said.
When contacted tonight, Souths chief executive Shane Richardson declined to comment on the rumours.
Gillis said he and Finch met with the Roosters today, but denied claims that Finch's off-field behaviour was of concern to the club.

He said all parties left the meeting in agreement that Finch would play a significant role in any Roosters resurgence next season. "They had an end of season review with their players, Brett was one of those players," Gillis said.
"They've identified some areas they think he can improve, they've asked him to work on those areas.
"Everyone is comfortable that he can improve in those areas, which all relate to football, and we're moving forward.
"He's got a two-year contract and he's quite happy to work with the club and the club is quite happy to work with him."
