Roosters Trial

1. We have some gun players especially our props - Galloway, Woods, Bell and Buchanan all look really good to me.
2. Our backrow is a major concern. Fulton missed some easy tackles tonight but he has pace and the ability to score a try - I think he has to be in the starting team. Blair looked alright - he is a role player but a decent one. Anasta at the moment appears exactly what I though he would be - a waste especially considering what we lack is backrowers with impact.
3. Our outside backs are slow. Koro is a gun and I think Lawrence can get back up there. Tedesco might be up for it as well but we need more speed out wide.
4. Miller looks shithouse. He has never looked good in first grade. He is slow and appears a mediocre option. I'd like to be wrong but the whole Sheens didn't give him a go is bullshit.
5. All the crap about Marshall having to be at 6 was crap. He can play in tight no problems.

I think Potter needs to choose a team that has a lot more scoring potential in it. Get rid of Anasta and Ayshford for starters and you can probably add Miler to that list. Play Tedesco at 1 and if he doesn't cut it give the role to Koro.

A backline something like:-

1. Tedesco
2. Koro
3. Lawrence
4. Brien
5. Utai
6. Moltzen
7. Marshall

and then the forwards something like the following:-

8. Galloway
9. Farah
10. Woods
11. Fulton
12. Pettybourne
13. Blair

with a bench something like:-

14. Bell
15. Buchanan
16. BMM
17. Thomson

At the end of the day though I think we are lacking some quality outside backs, backrowers and possibly a half although I'm not sure if Benji needs to play alongside a great half.

Benji at 7 sucked and Moltzen at 6 sucked.
Season has not even kicked off and you're talking about reshuffle already.

Is that you Mr Sheens?

You are an absolute genius.

What was it specifically about today's game that made you think our outside backs are too slow and our backrow too small?

Did Utai and Ayshford surprise you with their lack of pace?

And Benji to half. Please

Tiger05 has been itching for 4 months to type up this post.

Given the conditions were shithouse and we are working on a completely different structure (in that we actually have one now) things will invariably take a while to click.

Ayshford sounds to have lost a few kgs, benji doesn't look to be as big as he appeared in the all stars game. Miller ran to the line which is good to see.

Our back row is very light on and our defence lacks any venom.

Anasta was sick with gastro throughout the game (was taken off the field) which is why he underperformed.

It scares me that we had to take four players off the field due to injury/illness. Our injury list is already starting to pile up and we havn't even started the season. If we get a repeat of last year with injuries we need to start looking at the trainers and medical staff because this is becoming a f**king joke

Look I know it was only a trial and I think we will improve, so I won't go slitting my wrists just yet.

However, lots of evidence based on tonight that we will really struggle this year.

Where do you start?

Right side defense absolutely abysmal. Will be torn to shreds by any half decent team.
Forwards getting monstered by bigger, stronger pack. (What's new?)
Lack of impact & balance in the back row. We have workers but no real impact players aside from BMM (Jury out on Thompson/Pettybourne)
Poor depth in front row. (A rookie starting tonight)
No genuine speed out wide aside from Koroibete.

The real issue is that we don't have many other options. It's either NSW Cup players, or young, inexperienced rookies. There isn't enough quality depth in this squad, IMO.

IMO the biggest issue is that we really don't have any forwards aside from Woods and Galloway who consistently hit the line with IMPACT and actually dent the defense.

So yeah, a huge task for Potter. I don't envy him.

P.S: The best position for Moltzen is in NSW Cup.

My side would be:

1. Tedesco
2. Koroibete
3. Simona
4. Lawrence
5. Nofoaluma
6. Marshall
7. Miller
8. Woods
9. Farah (c)
10. Galloway
11. Pettybourne
12. Anasta
13. Blair

14. Fulton
15. Thompson
16. Bell
17. BMM

Im happy with your side Hybrid apart from perhaps Ayshford . I Think he will improve and if not yeah Simona or i think Sirro could fill the role also.
With our small forwards last night i thought it was a waste having Blair playing out wide in attack when we lacked go forward in the centre. Big Keef by the way played really well and i prey he stays fit or we are rooted. Utai was once again seen for what he is which is a hard runner and nothing else.

Tell me where I have it wrong ?

We have the same issues as last year namely:-

1. A backrow that lacks size and impact.
2. Slow outside backs excluding Koro (I still think Lawrence will go well).
3. One good half who is inconsistent - Benji is that half.

Benji played in tight and went well. This might go against the general opinion but if you watch the game you will see that this is true.

Miller appears slow with not much to his game. His kicking game was poor, his passing game was poor or better put MIA, his running game was poor or better put MIA. His defence was pretty decent. At the end of the day though in all of his chances he has looked average.

On the positive I think our front row will go fine. Buchanan looked good as did Bell. Galloway was on a tear. Woods is a weapon. That to me is a bunch of fairly good options.

Miller was only just ok but he needs to be given a lot more games to develope . I dont believe anything he did or didnt do contributed to the loss. I thought Benji was MIA by the way :( .

Tiger05 has been itching for 4 months to type up this post.

No I haven't. I want us to win games.

I hope Anasta was sick and that is why he had no impact.

Given the conditions were shithouse and we are working on a completely different structure (in that we actually have one now) things will invariably take a while to click.

Lets hope that this is the case but no structure will add size and speed to our backrow and outside backs.

Miller ran to the line which is good to see.

That was great to see as was his defence. The problem is that he had no impact whatsoever.

Our back row is very light on and our defence lacks any venom.

Again no structure will fix this.

I think we struggle this year unless the key issues are fixed. The no 1 issue is impact within the runners of the footy.

How much impact is Miller supposed to have playing behind a forward pack that has little go forward and was basically smashed most of the night?

Also Benji still dominates.

It took Lui ages to develop confidence in the position.

Miller deserves at least the first half of the season to show us what he can do, as there are no other options.

I get the sarcasm but lots of people think I have this wrong.

What was it specifically about today's game that made you think our outside backs are too slow and our backrow too small?

Nothing out of the ordinary. It is just like last year however we've decided to add another slow backrower to the mix in Anasta.

And Benji to half. Please

When he played in tight last night we looked a little better. The try off Robbie's kick and the pass to Fulton are two examples.

Benji can play either 7 or 6 no problems.

If everyone is so against having him at 7 play Anasta at 7 and leave Benji at 6. Miller is a serious concern.

Maybe something like this will work:-

1. Tedesco
2. Koroibete
3. Brien
4. Lawrence
5. Nofoaluma
6. Marshall
7. Anasta
8. Woods
9. Farah (c)
10. Galloway
11. Pettybourne
12. BMM
13. Blair

14. Buchanan
15. Bell
16. Thompson
17. Fulton

That side looks a lot faster in the outside backs and with increased size and explosiveness in the backrow.

He always has excuses. I don't get it. Do you all find him cute or something ?

Also Benji still dominates.

It took Lui ages to develop confidence in the position.

Lui never looked as bad as Miller in offence. Miller already looks a better defender.

Miller deserves at least the first half of the season to show us what he can do, as there are no other options.

Anasta at 7 is an option.
Benji to 7 and Sirro to 6 is another option.
Give some other player a go.

End of the day we can only pick from the players available so we will be stuck with a small pack. We do have alternatives in other areas that can easily be addressed such as winger, 2 tries were scored as a direct result of Utai being unable to leap for a ball and the second to dive on a ball. He runs hard and tries his best but lacks the athletic features for the modern game nor does he have the footy brain to make correct reads in defence. Take 10 points of the rooters score and the result doesnt sound all that bad. If this was a one of id live with it , but we have seen his negatives time and time again.

Unfortunately we are stuck with the small backrow, slow outside back side that Tiger05's mentor Tim Sheens has assembled for us this year.

And he is still going on about Benji at 7.

The team has had it's best success when he has played at 6.

That may not include this year, but then the supporting cast is not great.

So did the pack give him go forward or not?

As excuses go, it's a pretty good one.

Would you have cut Lui after one NRL game because he was an ordinary player for a long time.

Farrah to Eels, Tigers v Dragons for spoon!

The tigers took last night as a trial while you bozos went out to play a February grand final lol. The tigers with half Politis's budget will finish ahead of your cheque book juniors. Your Day is coming at a fast rate of knots, March 7 will tell a lot about your club, Souths are licking their lips to burst your bubble.
