Just a quickie....
defeated reigning champs Canberra 7-1 in the first game, and probably thought we were shoe ins from there. Personally, after 3 hours sleep and a few beers I was gone after the first game, and struggled my ass off for the remaining 3. Wasn't much help to anyone after that, and was very disappointed in how I played, or didn't, for the rest of the day.
Newcastle beat us by 1 in the second game, I think 5-4. Don't know how we ended up losing that one, as we had it in our grip a few times.
Panthers beat us 7-4 in the third game, and we thought we were gone and not a chance of the finals.
Then the miraculous happened and Canberra (who had been flogged in their previous 2 games) beat Newcastle in the last game which left us, Raiders and Knights all on 2 points after 3 games. For and against went our way and we went through to the finals.
Came up against the Roosters in the sudden death semi and were holding them well in the first half. But like PB said, alcohol and general lack of health went against us and the roosters went on to the GF, where they defeated Manly in a highly controversial game and won the Cup.
I actually think a dodgy call against us which denied me a beautiful solo try 8) could have cost us that game. I actually thought this was a good game by us and if we had have snuck in against Manly may have won it, but alas......
PB was by far our best, I was way below how I played in the last 2 comps and George was once again fat and hairy. Seriously, what we need is another fast guy or 2 to really have a shot. If you are interested there will be another comp in late February for the Laurie Nichols Shield. All we had was PB, and while I am usually a good touch player I had little sleep for the week before hand and was for the most part quite useless on the day, lol.
Nevertheless, a good day had by all, thanks to Colonel and BD5733 for the cameos and everyone else for giving it a shot. We are now the only team to make the finals in all 3 comps so far, so at least we had something to smile about.
