After two disappointing trials and the successful performances of both Tim Grant and Michael Jennings in the premier League trial today, with both being standouts...i'm willing to take a punt and put them in...

My team for Round 1 vs Sharks:

1. Rhys Wesser
2. Michael Gordon
3. Luke Lewis
4. Michael Jennings
5. Luke Rooney
6. Peter Wallace
7. Craig Gower c
8. Joel Clinton
9. Luke Priddis c
10. Matthew Cross
11. Tony Puletua c
12. Trent Waterhouse
13. Frank Pritchard

14. Frank Puletua
15. Tim Grant
16. Junior Moors
17. Paul Aiton
18. Matthew Bell

That'd be my round 1 team. Competition for Grant, Moors and Bell for the 2 bench spots.

Firman for Wallace.
Norrie for Grant (not quite yet)
Bell for Moors (definitely not ready)

you didn't list a replacement for jennings;-)

Caged Panther,

I want Jennings in the side I just dont think Elliot will be so reckless as to blood him quite so early. It will happen it's just a matter of timing.

If you want the side I think he will pick for the Sharks then substitute Nathan Smith for Michael Jennings. It will only be temporary, but most likely for round 1.

Depending on how things shape up after the first four rounds Pee Wee Moke is definitely going to come into contention. Centre/5-8/Lock/Interchange time will tell but he is obviously going to put pressure on the outside backs. Competition is healthy and we need it. We don't have the depth, currently, in the outside backs of some of the other sides. That may change in 20087/2009 with some of our exciting youngsters coming thru but for this season it will be the mainstays of recent seasons, Jennings aside.

I agree with you about Firman, Norrie and Bell...but i'd prefer to see see Firman, Norrie and Grant...rather than Bell

I just worry it's too early to throw Grant into the top grade.

I have no issues with blooding 18-20 years backs into the top grade if there good enough but I am always concerned about doing the same with forwards, particularly front rowers.

I saw Bell at training a couple of weeks ago and he is a big unit. He appeared to be more mature physically and appears as big as any forward in the club, including Joel and Big T. He was certainly raw in 2006 on the occasions he got a run in the top grade but he has some potential and could develop into a very useful first grader. If he improves on what he displayed in his debut season he is going to put pressure on our established forwards at the very least and will not let us down.

i'll take your word for it...but i'd like to ease Grant in at some stage...maybe 6-7 games at second row off the bench. He started at second row last week in the trial and did very well. As did Norrie.

Frank P in for Peanuts.

Peanuts shifted to the bench.

Youngquest to bench.

Firman over Wallace

Firman to another club would be my pick for his position.

Try to crack the half dozen!

LOL, i bought him too.

Peewee Moke is in my team too, second row i think. Both are soo cheap and going to be absolute guns.

I think the thing we need to remember about Jennings is that while he has a mile of talent and that is why we'd all like to see him picked come Rd1 the reality is it will probably take him a little while to find his feet in first grade. For those first few games he may be no better than a smith or a youngquest.
