Round 10 v Rabbits Game Day Thread

i think teams know they can get away with illegal play because refs will not want to ruin the game by blowing penalties all day. Out of those 15 penalties i'm sure 8 or 9 of those were in the first 20 minutes. They will always eventually put the whistle in the pocket and will rarely bin a player so if you want to put a team off it is worth persevering with it

I agree with this 100% and have thought this to be the case for quite a few seasons now. I think Des Hasler in particular sets his teams up to weather an early barrage of penalties because he knows sooner or later the refs are going hold back on blowing penalties because they don't want to be accused of becoming the centre of attention or over reffing. Moreover, I generally think refs will blow a stack of "even up the count" penalties at the back end of games when the result is decided or early in areas of the field/stages of the game that will not prove to be too advantageous to the team awarded the penalty. I was actually surprised that we had a 10-5 penalty count because generally when a penalty count is that lop sided, a ref gets dropped the following week.

It wasn't that clear to me. Im not disputing the outcome it probably was the correct call I just don't believe it was conclusively shown that it did hit his arm for them to over turn the on field decision. Watched it again this morning and the foxtel commentators seemed to agree it wasn't conclusive, I just want the bunker to be consistent.

Any way it was my first time at Para and I really enjoyed the experience. Good crowd and it was nice to be sat in a stadium that wasn't empty for once. Look forward to going back after the rebuild.
I think with this decision a lot of people fall into the trap of misconstruing personal beliefs with the rules of the game. Yes, the rule is a stupid one and I cannot believe it is in the game. However, under the laws of the game the player is allowed to ground the ball with his upper torso. Moreover, given that the decision went up as a try, the bunker needs conclusive evidence in order to overturn the on-field decision. Now the bunker official must either have some incredible eye sight or some bloody good cameras because I don't know how they managed to conclusively determine that the ball came off Reynolds' arm first.

I think it obviously came off his arm. No problem with the torso grounding but by that stage it was already a knock on.

On the replays at the game I could see it came of the inside of his left arm and deviated slightly before his torso grounded it.

Isaac De Gois and Beau Scott charged with grade one tripping but both will escape bans with an early guilty plea

hard to believe GI didn't get a mention

What about when De Gois was held up by the player in an off side position in the 7th minute? Sure, we got a penalty, but where was the sin bin for a professional foul? How was that act any different to what Norman got pinged for? If that player did not interfere in the play De Gois scores a try. Instead the Bunnies are in 2 minutes later when they should have been a man down.

I couldn't believe the number of high shots the Bunnies got away with. Then Inglis not even on report. He took Edwards out of the game.

But the real turning point was the strip on Wicks after we scored to make it 20-6.

The real turning point was Wicks giving his best Jack Wighton impersonation.

With regards to the 321 points thread, I noticed almost everyone gave Semi points. Are we watching the same game? He was terrible in my opinion. His first try was good - I'll grant that. The other 2 would have been scored by any winger in the NRL. In fact, for the second try where he took the (forward) pass off Jennings, why was he in line with Jennings - he caused that forward pass by not hanging back. Schoolboy error.

And then he twice let Souths players score in his corner with two terrible reads. He cost us two tries - as did Wicks.

Serious question - but why did he rate in our top 3 players on Friday?

Because scoring 3 tries stands out more than making 30+ tackles without missing any. He does however constantly help our go forward and along with Junior and Manu are the hardest to tackle.
I think our compressed defence leaves us vulnerable out wide and semi as well as whoever plays on the other wing regularly get exposed by teams that read the play well. Sometimes running in and hoping to shut the play down is the only option

i think a lot of times the damage is already done on the inside and by the time the ball gets out to the centre there's an overlap and the try will be scored one way or the other

The biggest criticism I had was his lack of work in the second half when our forwards were clearly gassed. He went plenty of sets without a hitup when one run from him could have swayed momentum.

When there is an overlap, you never stand in front of your inside defender. Except if Pou is your defence coach.

You fill the space. If the space is on your inside you push that way, even if it leaves an overlap. The defender inside dictates where you line up on any given play. If there's an overlap then you can slide if you're far enough away from your tryline. Otherwise you need to try and kill the play before it can get outside you.
