Righteo, I'm officially dumping that Panthers game. Never want to focus on it ever again and I'm moving on to another bumper clash this week as we take on the Parramatta Eels, at home, in Indigenous Round. Indigenous Round is a special Round for all but none more so than us due to our strong Indigenous connection around the community as well as our large number of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander players. Should be a great week of celebration and I'm hoping that representing some of the guys cultures will really fire the boys up. We need to fire up big time too. Parra are a top four side so once again, this is a huge test. The last two big tests we've had, we've failed badly so that needs to change this week. It's crucial we bounce back. Everyone is starting to write us off so we really need to stand up, put or Season back on track and say "hey, we're still here!"
While the Eels are not on The Panthers' or the Storm's level, they are still one hell of a good side. A huge forward pack lead by Paulo, RCG (who will not be playing in this one) Matterson and Brown, and when you have a backline that contains the likes of Moses, Gutherson, Sivo and Ferguson, you know that's a great side. A rep quality side that I believe is gonna go a long way in this competition. We've already seen what Parra are cpable of and they had a tough loss last week too so I expect them to come out and be absolutely electric.
For us, we all know what needs to happen and the players do too. Huge things need to happen around our game if we want to even be a chance of winning this one. Our attitude is the biggest thing. There was no heart, no spirit, no aggression at all last week in our attitude so that needs to improve big time. That is step number one. if we turn up with the attitude we did against Penrith, then we'll have 50 put on us again so it's all about getting that attitude right. The defence needs to follow that same level of improvement. Again, it was non-exsistant in Round 11. All the talk was about our defence in the build up yet it didn't show on the field. That MUST change. Tighten it up all across the park or we'll be in real trouble. I'm confident we have the attack to trouble anyone, it's just the defence that's really lacking and Parra will exploit it if we're not prepared. Finally, dicipline is the next big thing. Our completion rate has been okay but part of the reason we're defending so poorly is because we're putting ourselves under pressure with silly penalties. No more!!!
So, we have a hell of a lot to prove this week and it's up to the players to go and prove it. We simple have to, there's no two ways about it. I'm actually really looking forward to seeing how the boys bounce back!! Our Season may well depend on it.
