Warriors 42-22. Looks like Knights haven't laid down completely and are showing some fight.

Fulltime

Penrith 32 Cowboys 24

Warriors 42 Knights 22

Lachlan Coote scored a hatrick to take him 2 clear on top of the tryscorers list. He has won 5 out of the 9 possible Players Player awards for Penrith this year. After tonight it will probably be 6 out of 10. He is able to play Under 20's for two more years after this one. This kid is a champion and i hope he stays with Penrith for life.

Huge injury toll in FG rocks all the lower grades. Not good.. The one great thing is the awesome debut of Peter Tuiaso who was my best on field for the Bulldogs.

Depleted Dogs go down in NYC
by Matthew Attard

The Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs Toyota Cup side have today gone down to Melbourne 30-16.

Second rower Daniel Harrison, prop John Kite and half Arana Taumata were all promoted to NSW Cup while center Heka Nanai will play on the wing in first grade. Five-eighth Rhys Jack has been ruled out for 12 weeks whilst second rower Harlan Alaalatoa and winger Kele Niusere also missed the match forcing mass changes to the side named earlier in the week.

Peter Tuiaso (wing) and Adrian Davis (5/8) were both promoted from SG Ball whilst Nathan Tannous also came onto the wing. Martin Taupau, Nathan Benny and Josh Reynolds all started the match whilst Jeco Makatoa, Liam Roach and Ben James all came onto the bench.

The start of the match was highly entertaining with the kick off from the Bulldogs finding the dead ball line and earning them a drop out. The drop out found debutante Peter Tuiaso on the full before he was then taken into touch. The ensuing set from the Bulldogs then produced over 10 passes before a kick found the in goal and earning a repeat set from the drop out.

While the Bulldogs may have had lots of early possession, poor ball handling and fundamental errors handed the Storm first points as centre Sam Joe crashed over in the 17th minute to give Melbourne a 4-0 lead. However it was the Bulldogs who grabbed the next points through Peter Tuiaso in the 20th minute as he crashed over in the corner from a long Ben Barba cut out pass. Barba missed the sideline conversion and the scores were level at 4-all.

Melbourne skipper Lucas Miller then grabbed a mid air kick to crash over in the 25th minute before yet more errors from the pups invited Melbourne back into their half and it proved deadly as Miller grabbed his second in the 36th. The conversion found its mark and Melbourne led 14-4 at half-time.

The second half started poorly for the Bulldogs as Storm fullback Michael Faamausili bagged a four pointer in the 44th minute to take the Storm out to a 18-4 lead. Interchange prop Ben James then injected himself with a huge hit and then a try in the 48th minute after he took an intercept 30 meters out. Barba nailed the kick to narrow the gap to just 8 with 30 minutes remaining.

Just as the Bulldogs were mounting pressure more fundamental errors crept in and Melbourne made them pay with a soft dummy half try to Gareth Whiddop in the 52nd minute. Melbourne hit the conversion and took the score out to 24-10.

The Bulldogs weren't giving up as some great defence denied Melbourne more points. Despite plenty of chances Melbourne's defence held strong to deny The Bulldogs on several occasions. Compounding Melbourne's strong defence was yet more errors from Canterbury who just couldn't seem to hold the ball. Melbourne then wrapped it all up in the 71st minute with another converted try to lead the match 30-10. A late consolation try to centre Chevvy Penehoe took the score to 30-16 however at that stage it was too late.

There were however some positives to come out of the game with strong games from 17-year-old centre Jamal Idris and winger Peter Tuiaso who were both great in a losing side. Prop Robert Worsley, who returned from injury last week, put in another strong performance whilst young gun Ben Barba is finding his feet at half-back.

However Melbourne were just too strong on the day, defeating the depleted Bulldogs 30 points to 16.

Kevin Locke was brilliant for the Warriors.
Apparently the foxtel commentators compared him to Billy Slater - i thought he was better than that. (only half jokeing).

Wouldn't trade Coote for any other Fullback in the NYC.

13 tries for the season so far, and top pointscorer makes him highest pointscorer and try scorer for both first grade and NYC.

Not bad for a 17 year old..

14 actually Mick.

Just listening to an interview with Tim Grant last night in his comeback game and he praises Coote and his team mates.

"Its an awesome team. Its probably a team that you wouldnt think its a Under 20's team. It's full of blokes who are ready for First Grade now. Like Wade Graham,Masada Iosefa and Lachlan Coote. Coote he is going to be massive he is going to be a star of the future. I said to a few of the other boys, how good is he? He is only 18 playing two years up and is probably the form player of the comp"

Mundine was excellent for St George today. Pretty much won them the game single-handedly.

true...forgot about Barba's effects in the 60 pointer against Cronulla.

Still...wouldn't trade Coote for anyone else...consistently great player.

Joseph Paulo was also the goalkicker for the first few rounds also, which cost Coote a few points.
