Just a bit more tinkering from our head mechanic..

He’ll have this baby firing come Sunday!

Don't know a whole lot about Maranta only that he's the fastest man in NRL.
Apparently in a 100 meter race at training he finished 30 meters ahead of Dufty, 45 meters ahead of Ravalawa and 85 meters ahead of Lafai.
Cannot wait to see him fly!

Yet, Maranta was penalised last week for holding back an opponent who DARED to go him last weekend!

I read into it that he is very responsible. Decided to wait for the alcohol to leave his system before getting behind the wheel of his car the day after a big night. Exactly what i would expect from all our players and COACH.
Or of course he may have got picked up DUI on the way to training in which case he would just show some remorse and having learnt his lesson he would go unpunished by the club. On the basis he got punished, i'm going with the "responsible" option.....no way our club would have double standards.
The problem is that players earn more than enough to grab a cab to get to training on time.

Does anyone like the idea of giving Pearson a shot in the centres?
Yes I would like to see him at centre this week with Rava and Pereira as the wingers. But down the track I hope Pearson and Saab are our long term wingers.

Anyone know how long Lomax will be out?

Why so negative DP?
You are getting too agitated lighten up.
None of this was foreseeable nobody ever thought Maranta would be picked or that Lats would last the season
Hang on a minute I remember somebody saying it was on the cards
Good thing for me is that coach is so so predictable it makes it easy to be negative as soon as the CS half time pep talk is done and dusted.

I'm not disillusioned with most things about the club but the coaching staff & some of the boards old boys network decisions ( including keeping this staff ) frustrates me for the unaccountably it has.

Indeed it is hard to believe that Maranta & Lats is as good as it gets even before half way in the season.
Coach gets an extension, we lose 5 in a row, beat the underperforming Dogs who has plenty of opportunities to beat us and we decide that mediocrity is the better part of valour
Accountability zilch

Pearson should stay on the wing. He is clearly a winger.

A few on the forum have suggested Rava could play centre, and although trialing in CC is ideal, if Maranta is the best option otherwise, then it’s clearly a much better option.

I would also prefer Field ( though he is NOT a centre) or even Friz to Maranta!

Did Maranta ever play in the centres during his tenure at the Broncos? Obviously, he’s been playing there in reserves but his qualifications here are doubtful.

I don’t think I’ve been so underwhelmed by a replacement deemed necessary due to injury.

Did McGregor and co. watch last week’s Canterbury Cup game against the Warriors? Not only was Maranta beaten for pace by his opposite man (on which one occasion drew a penalty for holding him back), he just looks simply too top heavy for first grade.

I might as well put up my hand for selection.
Dont worry Maranta is a smokescreen for Host to start in the centres. Maranta bench man
Who said the Dragons are slow to approach the NRL when they need to. They worked pretty fast on this.
Happy days for happy dragons fans

Stat Attack: Round 14 v Manly

The St George Illawarra Dragons come up against a Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles outfit flying high with confidence.

Over 28 encounters between the two sides, the Dragons hold a healthy advantage with 19 victories to Manly’s nine. But the Sea Eagles return serve when playing at Lottoland with the Dragons winning 46 per cent of their total matches there.

At the halfway point in the season there isn't much splitting the two sides in attack and defence but Manly can claim slightly better numbers. Manly rank eighth in the league in offense while the Dragons come in at 10th. In defence, Manly has the advantage once again with the eighth-best defence while the Dragons claim the 12th.

Manly also lay claim to one of the most formidable front-rows in the league with Martin Taupau and Addin Fonua-Blake. Both average over 150 metres per game this season and have ran for a combined 1196 post contact metres.

Discipline seems to be Manly's Achilles heel with Des Hasler's men conceding 97 penalties in their 13 matches. Only the Panthers (105) have conceded more.

Danger man
Tom Trbojevic

One of the most dangerous players in the NRL, Tom Trbojevic can tear opposition defences apart. An injury plagued 2019 season has seen him play just three matches.

Trbojevic has scored three tries and collected four try assists, five line breaks and 13 tackle breaks in this time however. These numbers wouldn't go astray for a fullback having played every game this season, highlighting Tom Trbojevic's lethal attacking potential.

Key matchups
Ben Hunt v Daly Cherry-Evans

Both Hunt and Cherry-Evans were playing side by side just over a week ago and steering Queensland to Origin victory. Now the pair will be opposite ends of the field in a mouth watering match-up.

An injury affected season has resulted in just eight appearances for Cherry-Evans, but the 30-year-old playmaker has still produced three tries, four try assists, 11 offloads and forced six dropouts.

Hunt can claim the numbers advantage in all these categories but with an extra three games under his belt. Hunt has three tries this season, seven try assists, 14 offloads and forced nine dropouts.

Addin Fonua-Blake v Blake Lawrie

After playing most of the season at lock, Lawrie starts in the front row and has a tough task on his hands in containing his opposite number Fonua-Blake.

Lawrie is four centimetres shorter than Addin and 12 kilograms lighter. While also being one year younger, Lawrie isn't outdone by the Tongan and New Zealand representative in defence.

Lawrie has made 124 more tackles than Addin while at the exact same tackle efficiency of 92.9 per cent. But in attack, Addin claims the advantage with 26 tackle breaks and 546 post contact metres to Lawrie's seven tackle breaks and 292 post contact metres.
