This is my opinion on who should be and who more likely will be select in the top 17 against the storm, so if you have another opinion then suck a dick, but I’m open to criticism.

1. Dufty (have no other choice due to injury, but can turn it on)
2. Jonus Pearson (pretty decent)
3. Euan Aitken (strong ball runner)
4. Tim Lafai (best centre we’ve got atm)
5. Mikaele Ravalawa (strong game against the cowboys)
6. Jai Field (if you’ve watched him then you know why he’s the obvious choice)
7. Darren Nicholls (has a lot of nsw cup experience having won a couple of premierships, hopefully he can transition that into first grade)
8. Blake Lawrie (been playing well)
9. Cam McInnes (self explanatory)
10. Korbin Sims (experienced forward)
11. Jacob Host (has been extremely strong)
12. Luciano Leilua (can be dangerous, hopefully can link with Field)
13. Reece Robson (has potential, sadly going to cowboys)
14. Adam Clune (I know some people will be questioning this decision, but Clune has been playing well and has a killer pass and covers multiple positions, especially if Nicholls fails)
15. Jeremy Latimore (the all time goat :heart_eyes: for some reason Mary loves this lad, would much rather Mitchell Allgood who was strong in defence on the weekend)
16. Lachlan Timms (strong carrier of the footy, has potential)
17. Patrick Kaufusi (played well on the weekend almost cracking 200 metres)

Why create a new thread when there is already a Game thread going ? Makes no sense....

I'd like to get Jackson Ford in somewhere but he's not in the top 30 so he'll have to bide his time. Definitely like to replace Aitken with Pereira but I can only assume Mary is dating Aitken's mother.

Jackson Ford was added to the top 30 along with other development players Eddie Blacker, Hayden Lomax, Joe Lovodua, Steven Marsters and Jason Saab. All these players became eligible for NRL games after June 30. This was announced on June 21 when they signed Patrick Kaufusi.

Whatever happens in this game, win, lose, McGregor will come out smelling like roses.

Win - "I was instrumental in bringing through these young players, against the competitions benchmark, even with our SOO contingent missing. I've had confidence they would step up, they done good".

Lose - "Obviously losing the quality players to Origin upset our normal structures, you just can't replace quality like that. The youngsters tried hard but they need more time learning the game at this level".

Because I don’t see why not? Why do you care?

Firstly, welcome to the forum. Secondly to answer your question, if everything is in the same thread it makes it easier to converse on the same topic....Sorry if you have taken offense but you are the 2nd person to open a new thread on the same game vs storm this week.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your time here.

Last week the Dragons got the win they needed to stay in the finals race, overcoming a disrupted preparation to beat the Cowboys in Wollongong.

But the Cowboys ain't no Storm and it's fair to say the Dragons have to approach Thursday's clash with the kind of intensity, energy and single-minded resolve more suited to a grand final.

The fact they don't have to travel and usually play well in Wollongong should work in their favour, but their opponents clearly don't fear being in enemy territory if their 6-1 road record is any guide.

The Storm held off the Roosters last week to remain alone at the top of the ladder and will like their chances against the hot and cold Dragons.

Key match-up
It's the ultimate challenge for every hooker in the game - a head to head meeting with the GOAT. If the Dragons are going to end Melbourne's six-game winning streak, Cameron McInnes has to hold his own against Cameron Smith. McInnes won't shy away and Smith knows he'll be in for a tough battle.

For the Dragons to win
Whether they like it or not, the Dragons have put themselves in such a precarious position that they have to treat every game like it's do or die. That still might not be enough to topple mighty Melbourne but it's a good starting point. The Dragons have to be prepared to match the Storm's methodical power game but also stick to their own game plan and be ready to pounce on any scoring opportunities that might surface.

For the Storm to win
Since losing to the Sharks on the road in round eight, Melbourne have won six straight. Craig Bellamy sometimes looks angry enough to headbutt walls but he has his team humming along nicely toward a top two finish. They will look to wear down the Dragons with their usual uncompromising defence, while Smith and Brodie Croft will be keen to give their outside backs room to move against a suspect Dragons backline.

Brett Kimmorley says
The good news for the Storm is they have got Cameron Smith playing for them. The Storm were great last week against the Roosters. Ryan Papenhuyzen did really well for them in Adelaide. With the Origin players out, watch for others to step up. As for the Dragons, they are losing key players and I’m not too sure the depth will be there to cover for that. Storm by 6

Stat Attack
Brodie Croft might be too young to know about Terry Lamb but he does a fair impersonation with his ability to back up teammates. Croft leads the NRL in the player in support category with 244. The Storm boast the best attack and best defence in the league, with an impressive for and against differential of 190.

And another thing ...
Barring injury or suspension, the great Cameron Smith will become the first player to reach 400 games when he lines up for Melbourne's round 17 home meeting with 2016 grand final rivals Cronulla. Cooper Cronk has played the second-most games (362), followed by Darren Lockyer (355), Terry Lamb (350) and Steve Menzies (349).

The Dragons have a tough assignment against outright competition leaders the Melbourne Storm on Thursday, July 4 at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.

Across 36 matches the Storm holds a distinct advantage over the Dragons with 25 victories, including five of the past seven games. However, the Dragons can take confidence in the fact Melbourne have only won five of 11 matches in the 'Gong.

The Storm are the benchmark of the competition in 2019, losing only two games and holding a six-point lead at the top of the table. Craig Bellamy's men also lay claim to both the best attack and best defence in the competition in comparison to the Dragons who rank 10th in attack and 13th in defence.

The Storm also leads the competition in tries (59), conversions (61) and kick return metres (3,070), while ranking inside the top five in support plays (1,874), completion rate (80 per cent), line breaks (58), try assists (40) and line-break assists (36).

The Dragons rank inside the top five in only total kick metres (8,774), intercepts (seven) and field goals (three). However, the Red V does have the edge over Melbourne in tackle busts (371) and offloads (123) – two areas they will look to hurt the Storm.

Danger man
Cameron Smith

Smith has broken almost every record in the NRL throughout his 398-game career, and his experience will have a significant role in the outcome of the match.

With seven try assists, four line break assists and seven forced line dropouts – all while converting goals at 82 per cent – it's easy to see his influence on the team. In defence, Smith has made the sixth-most tackles of any player (571) at an impressive efficiency of 92.3 per cent.

With both teams expected to field multiple debutants and rookies due to State of Origin III, Smith's experience and guidance in the middle of the field will have a lasting impact.

Key matchup
Korbin Sims v Jesse Bromwich

These two heavyweights will cause WIN Stadium to shake when they come face-to-face.

Sims and Bromwich are no strangers to hard runs and big hits and will take their role to another level with both teams missing key members in the forward pack.

Bromwich is enjoying another stellar season with 28 tackle breaks, four tries, and 1807 total running metres this season.

Sims's season numbers are slightly deflated due to his early-season broken arm but the Fiji Bati captain will play increased minutes with players on representative duties.

In just 31 minutes last week against the Cowboys, Sims had nine runs for 87 metres, two tackle breaks and 13 tackles. Look for Sims to raise his game to match the New Zealand international.

Matt Dufty v Ryan Papenhuyzen

Two young, fast and exciting fullbacks will look to be the spark that ignites their team to victory.

Following a brief stint in the Canterbury Cup NSW, Dufty returned to the top grade and has produced some brilliant results. With four tries this season and two try assists, Dufty is a key cog in the Dragons attack with his blistering pace a huge advantage.

Papenhuyzen has exploded on to the scene this year since his Round 4 debut. Coming off the bench or starting at fullback, it doesn't matter for the 21-year-old who has racked up four tries, four try assists and seven line breaks.

St George Illawarra coach Paul McGregor has named his mandatory 21-man squad ahead of the Dragons' Round 16 clash against the Melbourne Storm at WIN Stadium, Wollongong on Thursday, July 4.

With Tariq Sims, Paul Vaughan, Tyson Frizell (all New South Wales), Corey Norman and Ben Hunt (both Queensland) all selected for State of Origin III, there is a host of changes to the Dragons following their last start win over Cowboys.

Dragons throw support behind Norman's Origin selection

Jai Field and Darren Nicholls, fresh off guiding the Canterbury Cup Dragons to the top of the table, have been named in the halves in Norman and Hunt's absence.
