Willow if that doesn't open below is an extract of the same article from another source.

In short he says undeniable proof that Dufty was knocked out and under NRL protocol that means you can't return to the field.

"One of Australia’s leading experts on sports concussion injuries has slammed the NRL over the decision to allow Dragons fullback Matt Duftyto return to the field yesterday.
Dr Adrian Cohen also questioned the future of Roosters skipper Jake Friend after he suffered yet another head knock against Manly at the SCG.
“Matt Dufty was visibly and undeniably UNCONSCIOUS following a forearm to the back of the head in the St George (Illawarra) v Cronulla game,” Dr Cohen said.
“He left the field for an HIA"…

Vaughan and Lawrie are our 2 starting props. Crazy to change that after 1 week. Lawrie was in beast mode vs the Sharks, aggressive and wanted blood. Must start.
Not so sure about that against the Sharks Vaughan ran for 208m & Lawrie only 75m Alvaro stats very similar to Lawrie coming off the bench. Alvaro might be a surprise packet this year.

Maybe this might clarify it for you and I suggest this Dr might know a bit more than the one's you referred to.

Yes it was behind a paywall but thanks.

Will read the whole article, to see how much is opinion. Of course if there's a conflict going on then the HIA itself is flawed.

I agree that the interpretation of the rule is very flawed and no doubt some clubs / players try to rort the system.

The Dr says Dufty's eyes were shut so unconscious but just maybe Dufty kept his eyes closed due to
1. Pain
or
2. Effect to influence the ref

Who knows but there have also been instances where players have been HIA'd during the game and allowed back on but subsequently ruled out of the next game following further examination of the incident and the player.

First time Dean Young goes against us I expect he'll have the cowboys fired up plus all this press about JT and coming off a big loss this will be a hard one for us it is still winnable though.

You can’t just look at run meters and say x was better than y. Aggression, enthusiasm, chasing from marker, kick pressure. Lawrie did all of that. Tackle breaks, putting Sharks on their asses with and without the ball. Lawrie ticked all those boxes the other night. Alvaro not so much.
Plus comparing a starter in the 1st 25 mins with a reserve coming on when all the hoo haa has settled down isn’t fair either

Bird is a great centre and could be a great five-eighth in our 17. The answer isn't to shift good players around.

I'd say buy an edge forward and a top grade prop. Bring Kerr back into the prop rotation and if we need some extra cash, let Merrin and Ellis go.

If Millward and Horan can't do this, move them on as well.

I assume you're recommending buying forwards for this year but all the good players are gone. On Bird's performances so far, I agree he would be unlucky to be moved from centre but Feagai is a better option at replacing Bird than keeping the ineffectual Sims and Kerr in the back row.

And that, kids, is the difference between understanding rugby league and just looking at the numbers

At this time both Feagai boys are playing KOE Cup. Max is probably the advanced of the 2 and is more of a chance of playing NRL this year.
Williame seems to be the preferred option as the back-up left centre and maybe the coaches see more than we do in him. SSE is a specialist left centre but is behind Max imo at this stage, however, all these boys are suffering from basically no football last year.

I'm not confident with anyone when Taumalolo comes their way. Another reason I'd prefer Kerr's big body in the middle.

Penrith scored 4 tries against the cows all down the cows' left side and bombed another 4 or 5.
I'd hope we can get our kicking game in order and kick long to keep the big cow pack up their own end of the park. Lot's of off - loads as well to keep them on the back foot. I'm looking forward to see what Hook has done to improve Norman and Hunts combination and Norman's game in general. Hunt looked good last Sunday, more commited in defence and organizing things. Still has work to do. I was disappointed he didn't use the strong breeze for long kicks but hopefully Norman will.
I was looking forward to seeing some soward style kicks coming through escpecially in the wet. Hopefully it happens because i think our long kicking game is poop.

Last year we were top of the league for average total kick metres and 2nd for kick metres per game,( only behind Penrith ) it's what kept us in games and gave us a chance. I haven't seen that kicking game so far this year. It could have helped against the Sharkies. Norman's greatest assett ( some might say "only" ) is his kicking game. He'll need his boots on this week.
Of all the areas Hook needed to fix I wouldn't have thought kicking was one but he brought in Sowie, the man they changed the " long kick over the dead ball line " or " 7 tackle, 20 mtr restart " rule for. Go figure.

Did they do an HIA test on Dufty on the field or just take him straight off, I missed that bit but saw him walking off and he looked to be complaining and telling the trainer he was ok to stay on ?
Very deliberate shot on Dufty, very cowardly too, from behind when he was being held by two others. Should get more than 3 weeks.

When speaking about Dufty, nothing has changed:
  • Still shaky under the high ball - errors leading to tries against us
  • Still out of position for much of the game
  • Still reluctant in defence
  • Yes he did score a great try but for me, this does not compensate for the errors he made. I'd say he cost us the game.
Ramsey looked good when he filled in at fullback.
Other than the occasional slashing try, all you say about Dufty is unfortuately true.

A fair bit of that has to do with us making no metres and kick out from our red zone though?

They are a very dirty, niggly team the Sharks.

One thing I noticed after a couple of crap early kicks was Hunt finally finding the grass. Hopefully the sessions with Sowie are paying off. It doesn’t matter how far you kick it if it’s into the fullbacks bread basket.

Ben Cummings is the ref and of course Chiddy is again our bunker official.
Ben Cummings is like a kangaroo frozen in the spotlight. He is good for a few hometown calls and a few contentious calls. Chiddy is out and out incompetent and just makes up the rules as he pleases.
Another rort is all in the planning you will see it Saturday night..
