After listening to the latest Club update, I'm almost convinced 2021 is a rebuilding year. Yes, we've heard this consistently over the last couple of years, but that was merely a ruse to cover the cracks. With Webb and Hook, I feel they have identified the weaknesses, both off and on the field. Some will take longer than others to fix, no band-aid solutions either.
My guess is that Dufty is playing for a future contract and with the Warriors signing a young gun for 3yrs, that avenue has shut. Maybe the Titans, maybe the Dogs.
I'm almost certain both Merrin and Norman won't see another contract with us. BB and Ellis really have to show something this year to earn any extensions. Fui looked good in the 1st game, his future lies in can he maintain it for the entire season and not fade. Blacker worth persisting with for another season, as with JP as a handy and experienced back-up.
A lot riding on next months court case.
The signing of Molo was very welcome, and the prospect of young J Hunt being added to the prop rotation (sooner than later I foresee), mixed with a revitalised Vaughan and Lawrie finally showing his worth, our forwards are looking stronger since, well a long time. And lets not forget Blake Dowell, Josh Coric and Shalom O'Ofou.
Of course edge is the one area we appear to be slightly down on, however, I trust the coaching staffs judgement re: Kerr. Sims showed glimpses of form in the first round and hopefully he can continue to climb back to the form that got him SOO selection. The offset with him is he's now 31, nearing the end rather than the prime.
Luke Gale is a good young player, but unfortunately he's out injured atm and Jackson Shereb is a very promising back rower (current captain of the SG Ball Steelers) who was chased by a lot of clubs. These guys are a few years off unfortunately.
The backs and halves look pretty set for the next couple of years.
It will take most of this year to rid the stench that has fixed itself to many aspects of our club and patience is thin after many years of "rebuild" and "getting the team I want". At least Webb and Hook seem to be in tune with getting the team we can say are true Dragons.
