Luai deserves a solid shot at the 6 next year. Burton can develop in CC and cameo in NRL when injuries hit.

One thing about the two though, I think Luai will be more like Johnson in that his skills are more physical (agility, speed). A serious injury or two might cruel him. Burton on the other hand looks both sturdier and with skills that aren't so volatile. Those soft hands out in front for a perfectly weighted grubber will be as effective coming back from an ACL as at any other time.

People have short memories, Luai's first game as a starter was much better than Burton's. He just hasn't had the consistency of football in FG yet to show what he can do.

I don't see Luai as a reserve at all, in fact he's been pretty poor there. His best games have easily come as a starter. If he doesn't get a starting role with us, he'll get it at another club.

People only see the new. It's why Kenny is favoured and now Burton.

Luai has the flair but I have yet to see him kick to the corners or turn defences around with kicks. I am talking lower grades too. That is what Burton brings and that is why both need to be in the 17 somewhere

Depends what you are looking for really. Personally I like halves that are calm and solid kicking games. Neither of those things are Luai doesn't mean those saying Luai should be 6 are wrong

Only way I see them both in the team long term is if one plays fullback, otherwise we'll lose one. The one time Luai played FB he had a shocker, though.

I hope so. Luai can play in another position but I think Luai still starts the year in 6

I'm not so sure Luai can play another position. I think he's a 7 or 6. He'd need to change his whole approach to play in the centres. Maybe he could play fullback.

Burton I think looks like he could play a whole heap of positions. Maybe everything from 1 to 6.

That's reasonable. Different people value different things.

Burton/Cleary is not nearly as dynamic as Luai/Cleary.

Burton was doing things on Friday night that Cleary should be controlling by now e.g. kicking for touch. I imagine it will be a big focus in the off-season as Cleary doesn't appear to manage games much at all. That must change in 2020.

Cleary seems to be playing the ball often on the 5th tackle. That is my reasoning behind it

FWIW, I'm happy to wait until Burton has played more than 1 NRL game before I try to comparatively assess he & Luai, let alone make longer term roster changes.

I said earlier when we going poorly I'd like to see Luai at centre. Burton even works there and have them on the same side that way you are covered

Then Burton is the one to replace Whare and he plays like Girds did back in the day as a 2nd 5/8th. I just think over the course of a year whoever is 6 will struggle from time to time. So need to have cover somewhere

The one thing Burton has going for him getting the nod over Luai is that it looks like he has a decent kicking game, Luai I haven’t really seen that from him yet, although I think Luai probably deserves first shot at 5/8 next year.

I don’t mind the idea of either at centre in attack but no idea how they’d go with the decision making in defence. Switching Edwards into centre inside the 20 and Luai/Burton the sweeping/floating fullback could be good though.

Naden doesn’t seem quick enough between the ears for centre. I think he could be a good winger if anything.
