Throught what happened to Paddington in the late 70's onwards,happened to the Balmain area in the 80's through the present day.And it was a matter of being asset rich,and cash poor.So what happened to both those areas (mainly) is that the council rates forced out residents who were living on limited means.

They sold up,became instant millionaires,and quite a good number moved to the Penrith area because of the clean air,and large houses you could buy for around a fifth of what was the price in Sydney.

Somme people did a complete sea change and bought large properties in the mountains between Penrith and Lithgow.

I'd say they are living the good life. Wonder how is the Balmain Leagues Club going ATM?
