Agree Hewi, Widdop is our best player and we’re a worse side without him but FFS we’ll probably lose anyway and I’d rather lose for a purpose (blooding others) than lose with players that wont be here next year.

We have the perfect opportunity to play 4 super trials, an informed off season and actual trials in 6 months but NO McFkwit wants to watch Lats, Aitken, Lafai run around.

Wasted opportunity again, and again.

The other thing is, they’d get more people take an interest, more people go to watch if they trialled the potentials for the last few weeks.

Just brainless, anateurish shit.

That’s right, go ahead and put a jinx on the team - we will probably win now !

DRAGONS

The black line driving Lawrie to NRL success

St George Illawarra forward Blake Lawrie has credited time spent staring at the black line on the bottom of a Wollongong swimming pool for helping him cope with his first full season in the NRL.

Lawrie, who returns for Sunday's clash with Cronulla after missing his first match of the season last weekend, approached assistant coach Dean Young for advice after becoming a regular member of the Dragons pack in 2019.

Lawrie said Young's suggestion that he add swimming to his training regime had already proved a winner.

"I am not the biggest or the most powerful bloke on the field so I asked Dean for a bit of advice about things to work on and what to do on days off," Lawrie said.

"I've been swimming laps of the pool on my days off and I've found it good for a number of reasons.

"It's mental - just following that black line - and it's good for a bit of recovery too because it just gets the body moving."

The Dapto junior had previously worked with 2010 premiership hooker Young at under 20 level and was eager to listen to any tips he had to offer.

Despite not being a strong swimmer, he has started swimming 10 laps per session in the 25m pool.

"I just told Dean I wanted to cement my spot and start developing my game a bit more and play a bit more of a dominant role for this team," Lawrie said.

"He is the forwards coach so I obviously go to him for advice and he is one of the blokes who have helped me along the way."

Lawrie said he had reduced the time it took him to swim each lap of the pool from more than 30 seconds to about 25 seconds.

"I found it hard at the start but I am getting better and better. I can make my times a lot easier," he said.

"I just do about 10 laps and I count how many strokes I do. I try to do it in 30 seconds and if I get there in 25 seconds, I will just rest for five seconds and go again.

“I am getting a bigger rest now, [whereas] at the start I was doing it in just over 30 seconds so it has helped me with my fitness too. It's not meant to be anything too intense."

"I feel as if it has been helping me in the games and during the week, with recovery and obviously mentally as well. You just get away from it when you are in the pool."

After making 15 NRL appearances in the past two years, mostly off the interchange bench, Lawrie has so far this season played 19 games and he has started on all but four occasions.

Lawrie said he found the step up challenging but the Dragons have identified him as a long-term player and signed him until the end of the 2022 season, along with halfback Ben Hunt, second-rower Tariq Sims, prop Paul Vaughan, winger Jason Saab and 17-year-old playmaker Jayden Sullivan.

Problem is he’s ignorant and arrogant he is always right can’t talk or get any sense out of that he is just a prick period nothing has changed over the years and he is protected by the Illawarra connection
But he is in no position to be seen to ignore advice, particularly from the Board. He has had a shocking year ( years ! ) yet won't plan for next. You never know his arrogant attitude may get him canned ??

Wish he’d do something terrible to Aitken and Lafai. I tended to defend Lafai in the past, but since he has come back from injury he has been terrible, really terrible. I just don’t get the Timm thing. Why not at least put him on the bench and give him 10 minutes on the field? He must be going. There is no other reason I can think of apart from Mary’s stubborn stupidity perhaps. Kerr at least has been given some sort of a go. You know guys it is little wonder that our Club is not being connected to any player regarding next year. Why when you saw the basket case our club is would you come here?

Yes- I rate Timm above Kerr so I can only assume Timm has had enough of Mary's not selecting him and found acceptance elsewhere. If it wasn't so tragic, it would be funny. Mary is to talent what sunlight is to Dracula.

Denis what he did to JD was unforgivable, he is just not a nice person he’s hasn’t shown anything in the term as coach in reverse grade and first for the Dragons.
It has been the players and the players alone when it comes to playing games. In SOO when as a runner he didn’t have a good name either. Only thing he has done was in the coal coast league and can only hope you are right that his attitude is his downfall.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have a storied rivalry against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. The following throwbacks to these three games are a reflection of this thrilling local derby.

St George Illawarra Dragons 24 defeated Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 8
Preliminary final. Sunday, September 19, 1999.
Stadium Australia

The Dragons' first season as a joint-venture was perhaps one of its most enjoyable to date. Anthony Mundine would make it a certainty with a special second half hat-trick.

Cronulla's Mat Rogers would kick the Sharks to an early lead before David Peachey helped extend their lead to eight come the break.

Cue Choc. Mundine would have his first in the 43rd minute courtesy of a run more typical of a front-rower.

10 minutes later, he'd have his second four-pointer following a handy chip back inside from now Knights coach Nathan Brown.

Luke Patten would put the result beyond doubt in the 67th minute before Mundine completed his hat-trick with a front flip to boot in the final two minutes.

Current coach Paul McGregor would captain the Red V on the day against his opposite number, fisherman and eliminated Survivor battler Andrew Ettinghausen.

Round 2. Thursday, March 15, 2018
Southern Cross Group Stadium

This game certainly isn't the most memorable across the local derby's history but will always be remembered for Nene Macdonald's freakish first half try.

It didn't start in the greatest fashion for the Red V either given tries to Jayson Bukuya and Sosaia Feki put the Sharks out to a 14-0 lead after half hour.

Macdonald would eventually make his mark in the 33rd minute when he leaped high above Valentine Holmes to grasp a Gareth Widdop cross-field kick.

Commentator Matt Thompson would yell instantaneously "I don't think so" but quickly changed his tune on first replay – the Papua New Guinean having the foresight to pull both legs off the ground before planting the ball down.

Second half tries to Tyson Frizell and Euan Aitken would put the Dragons ahead finally in the 57th minute. Although Jason Nightingale's sin bin would put a cat among the pigeons as scores were then levelled at 16-all.

Two penalty goals from Widdop would tip the game in the Dragons' favour by full-time.

St George Illawarra Dragons 28 defeated Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 22
Qualifying final. Saturday, September 10, 2005
WIN Stadium, Wollongong

The old McIntyre finals football system would pit the second-placed Dragons against the seventh-placed Sharks at WIN Stadium, Wollongong in 2005.

Points were hard to come by in the first half as the Sharks held a tight 6-4 lead at the break – the floodgates would open come the second half however in front of a 19,608-strong crowd (a record attendance that still remains).

Dragons centre Colin Best's double was boosted by respective four-pointers from Trent Barrett, Wes Naiqama and Dean Young. Michael Ennis would kick four goals on the evening.

Now Sharks co-captain Paul Gallen (a try-scorer on the night) is the only individual left currently playing from this absolute thriller of a game.

Building towards next year?

How many times do supporters have to put up with that bullshit?

Get a real coach

Just hope that the media hounds don’t go building this as the ‘ The battle FOR Kogarah ‘ instead of the ‘ The battle OF Kogarah ‘ .

McGregor asked the question about blooding Sailor and Timm in thr coaches preview. Completely ignored the Timm comment and went straight to say Kerr was next in line. Said something like he will look at performances in Cc and Kerr was performing well and has a bright future with us.

So Timm is definitely on the outer with this peanut as coach.
