Round 23 Judiciary Charges

Believe it or not, we have two players facing charges out of the Thursday night game. Following is from the NRL's website -

Rabbitohs' Keary, Luke face suspension
Fri 14 Aug, 2015, 10:15am

South Sydney's Luke Keary and Issac Luke could be the latest players sidelined in the NRL's crackdown on the shoulder charge after the Rabbitohs' win in Townsville on Thursday night.

Keary has been charged with a grade one shoulder charge which carries a base penalty of 200 points. The Rabbitohs No.6 can take an early guilty plea which would reduce the penalty by 25 per cent, thus missing one match.

To make matters worse for the defending premiers, hooker Issac Luke is also facing some time on the sideline with two charges out of the match against the Cowboys.

Luke was also charged with a grade one shoulder charge on Johnathan Thurston and a grade one dangerous throw on Lachlan Coote. With prior offences in the past two years, Luke would miss three matches with an early guilty plea, ruling him out until the NRL finals.

The Kiwi hooker infamously missed the Rabbitohs' grand final win over the Bulldogs last season due to suspension.

Keary was at his aggressive best for Souths but appeared to overdo it in the first half when he went hard at Cowboys three-quarter Justin O'Neill.

The five-eighth didn't appear to separate his arm from his side as required under the revised shoulder charge law.

Can anyone even remember this apparent shoulder charge on Thurston?

This new rule is truly laughable

Well this makes it good for the Bulldogs next week. Signing Carter was a smart move by the Bunnies seeing as though Luke won't be there until finals time. Always rated him as better than McInnes

The "shoulder charge" by Issac Luke was a joke though. It was more front on contact and not the type of contact they are trying to eliminate

Well, at least they appear to be attempting to be consistent with their bullshit.

The Luke one must have been pretty innocous as I can't even remember it.

I reckon the Keary one was ridiculous (i dont agree with the rule by the way, i think this no shoulder charge rule is getting out of hand, but it is what it is) that it wasnt picked up at the time. Multiple replays and they still missed it on the night, what advantage did the cowboys get out of that whole incident? Nothing. Not even a penalty. That game was so stop start last night, it was one of the most frustrating games I have watched this season.

No & Keary's cahrge is a joke it was Davis V's Goliath.

The MRC should be outed and given 10,000 carry over points they are a total joke.

ONeil isn't exactly some man beast, but still it was just 2 blokes colliding at pace. I don't know why the ball runner has the option to drop the shoulder while the tackler doesn't.

This shoulder charge rule is going to be the key decider in the top 4 and top 8 races

The keary shoulder charge was as bullshit a call as Mason's last week.

At least they are being consistent.

Oh, what a bonus for Greenberg that his mob of imbeciles can cite away at the Bulldogs next opponents...

As has always been the case with Rugby League, those who make the rules can't seem to find the middle ground.

Whenever a rule change has had the word "blanket" attached to it, it has been a farce.

Recent example's include the current no punching rule and the rule brought in for shepherds a few years back.

This blanket ban for shoulder charges rule is just another farce to add to the list.

Someone at NRL HQ needs to work out the difference between bracing for impact and a shoulder charge real quick, otherwise we have a finals series this year that potentially quite a few players will be rubbed out of for next to no reason.

Mason and Keary were both just bracing themselves for impact. I can't even remember Isaac Luke pulling off anything that looked like a shoulder charge last night so I'm assuming that was fairly innocuous as well.

Good to see some people have common sense here.

In reality Keary and Luke shouldn't be charged for their so called 'shoulder charges' but Issac should get a few for his stupid tackle on Coote.

What will happen though is Issac will get 3 weeks and Keary will get 1 should they plead guilty.

Yep, Luke's lifting tackle was stupid, and something he does too often unfortunately which is why he'll miss time from loading.

I honest to goodness cannot recall Luke's supposed shoulder charge on Thurston, and given my hatred for all things Souffs that is saying something.

The Keary shot was a definite shoulder charge in the same mold as a Sandow type hit. Illegal under the rules I suppose but f**k me it shouldn't be a penalty and is just insane that he is going to be missing 1 week plus a a heap of carryover points to go with it (meaning ANY charge for the rest of the year is an automatic week).

TBH if I were souths I would almost prefer to have Keary miss 2 weeks and have no carry over points than to miss 1 game but have 75 points hanging over his head. They should risk fighting it

:lol::lol:

Bulldogs have been smashed this year with media reaction and the NRL doing what the NRL do and handing out lengthy suspensions...

We have Gold Coast to worry about Sunday... Don't care about next week ATM

Keary's wasn't even worth a penalty. As for Luke, I can't even recall the incident.

They have definitely lost the plot and this new BS rule alteration to the rule and grading may decide the Premiership.

Kearys was a textbook shoulder charge from what I saw hows that not a penalty? Cause he is small?

Josh Reynolds wearing any other jersey would have served at least 12 more weeks suspension.
