Yes because he's a fullback and not a winger.

The club valued Tago and May over Critta. They have made many good calls in the last 5 years but this was will look worse and worse into the future.
Turuvas a poor fullback atm. Maybe (and its a big maybe) he gets there with extended time in the position, but you could say the same of dozens of players. Given the wealth of talented fullbacks not getting a run at NRL level he's a long way down the pecking order.

The bagging of Tago is because he's one of the worst defenders in the NRL and Ivan hasn't made a single move to fix the issue. Turuva dropped and moved. Yet Tago just dishes up the same shit every week and hasn't shown a single sign of improvement in defence in over a YEAR now

Yeah righto but Turuva was defending badly before he got dropped and I still can’t recall you saying a single thing about that.

The whole right side was allegedly shit because they didn't trust Tago.

Not sure is trust but so many times he is doing his own thing. Maybe no talk but numbers and stats don't lie about the right side struggling

As for Turuva. He was on the left to start the year and Ivan changed the wingers for some reason.

Hard for me to blame Turuva for the right when he was left. Then missed some games and now back on the left and the right is still shit

Someone mentioned the pec injury to Tago.

The Prelim he had another horrible attempt on Olam for Storm's only try

Then the GF disgrace - which to be fair to Tago wasn't all on him.

Now this year. The numbers are above that is with Martin playing most of the year.

As opposed to the left that started with May at centre. Has had Alamoti and now McLean.

The left edge of either Garner and Sorro can't seem to stay on the field

So the left has been the unsettled side but aren't conceding at the same rate of the more settled side, That is the issue for me.

Why did To'o switch to the left in round 2? I don't understand the move.

Tago has the same issues we see whenever a 2nd rower is defending in the centres. I haven't seen anything consistently from Tago for me to consider him a genuine centre. IMO he's a second rower and should be defending there.

Stop making baseless accusations with no facts. Tackles are measured, Missed and ineffective tackles are measured. Try and line break causes are measured. That data gives us facts we can check against your bunny boiler obsession with Tago. Tago sits joint 23rd with four others in the NRL for try causes with 16 in 19 games. Critta, the messiah according to everybody, has 12 try causes in 17 games.

Meanwhile, above Tago in the list is Turuva with 19 in 18 games and Talgai with 30 in 15 games. Drinkwater has 36 in 21 games.

As for line break causes, Tago is 74th in the NRL with 12 in 19 games, equal with Critta, who has only played 17 games. Guess who is above him? To'o and Turuva. In fact, Turuva just as well have a hi-viz vest and light wands to direct the traffic with 23 line break causes. Alamoti is not much better. His effective tackle percentage is 75% and he has 13 line break cause in 11 games. He also needs a hi-viz vest.

As for tackles, in the centre position, Tago is 1st in the NRL with 308 and Staggs is second with 306. His effective tackle percentage is 82%. That would place him 23rd excluding back rowers who sometimes play centre. Of the 23, only 12 of those players have made more than 100 tackles and 11 of the players have played less than 10 games.

Tago is neither the worst defender at the Panthers or one of the worst defenders at centre in the NRL. What the DATA tells us is he makes more tackles than any other centre in the NRL. His tackle percentage is among the best at centre where players actually play more than a handful of games.

What the DATA does tell us is he needs to reduce his errors and penalties. He and Luai are 1 and 2 respectively for errors and penalties. They are so much worse than every other player (26 and 24 errors, the 3rd worst is 12) if those two can improve then it will have a massive positive impact on our field position.

Stats in a vacuum prove almost nothing. We are a gun defensive side and yet Tago gets carved up every week
