My understanding is that even if the Dragons defeat Cheaterbury tomorrow, it will still be fourth no matter what at the end of the round. Is this incorrect?

Hang on a sec.

I realise both Souths and Chooks have been beaten this weekend. My understanding is that even if the Dragons defeat Cheaterbury tomorrow, it will still be fourth no matter what at the end of the round. Is this incorrect?

As for the game at Kogarah, for whatever reason the Bulldogs have always had Saints’ measure (not withstanding blatant refereeing assistance) in matches that count going back to the 1979 grand final.

And, let’s not forget the sods are the ones responsible for ending the Dragons’ record breaking 11 consecutive premierships in 1967.

I don’t have a feeling leading into this round, Unfortunately (and I hate admitting this), the other mob are playing good footy at the moment.
If we can't win today, we are in big trouble.
Thommo's passing
JN's last game and a full house at Kogarah
If I was McGregor I would be saying "go out and do it for the jersey and the fans"

'He is St George': Ex-teammate to ref match in Thompson's memory
Scott Bailey
Australian Associated Press25August,2018, 12:00 am GMT

Never has an NRL referees' appointment been more apt than Henry Perenara's at Kogarah this Sunday for St George Illawarra's clash with Canterbury.

A former teammate of Lance Thompson at both the Dragons and Cronulla, Perenara was left shocked by the 40-year-old's death on Thursday night inside his Sydney home.

Referees appointments were handed out on Tuesday, but by chance Perenara was given the game that will now be dedicated to remembering and celebrating Thompson's life and contribution to the club.

Dragons players will wear black armbands in Thompson's honour - as will the Sharks against Newcastle on the same day - while there will also be a minute's silence and tribute before the match.

Perenara is privileged to share the moment.

"I'm pretty touched I get to do that," Perenara told AAP.

"I was a very small part of Thommo's life and I'm very lucky to say I was a teammate with him and then regarded him as a friend.

"I'm a very small part of that and I'm very lucky and honoured to referee the game this week at Kogarah where he is St George, the Dragons."

Perenara was just two years younger than Thompson when he arrived at the Dragons in 2003, but by that point the red-headed cult hero had already played more than 140 NRL games.

They spent two seasons together at the Dragons, before being reunited at Cronulla in 2007.

"He was just one of those people who demanded respect," Perenara said.

"If you look at some of the people who were at the Dragons, we had Trent Barrett, Jason Ryles, Luke Bailey, Shaun Timmins and Mark Gasnier there.

"But Lance Thompson was St George Illawarra or the Dragons at the time. That's the way I looked up to him."

My take on the team today:
We know the 17 is set so the "late mail" will only confirm Host in for Lawrie.

The others could be:
1. Nighty starts and is replaced at the 5 min mark by Periera (in honour of him wearing the #5). I don't see any reason to have Periera as a bench player. Nighty gets the 5 mins our normal #17 gets.
2. The late mail will reveal that Periera starts and Nighty to the bench playing the utility role. This makes more sense to me.

My guess is the final team will be:
Dufty
Nene, Nighty
Lafai, Aitken
Mann
Hunt
Graham, Friz
Leilua, Sims
JDB
McInnes

LAM
Latimore
Host
Periera

Interesting with Perenara as ref and Patten as video ref. I wonder how many referrals today?

Hey moron, my question wasn’t predicated on for/against differential.

What were you saying about “big words” again?

There is a chance we can win and move to 5th. Sharks play knights minus ponga and they own them. They could put 30 on them and overtake us on points differential.
On todays game, I'm not all that confident. Not sure the likes of Luciano, Mann have two good games in a row in them, definitely managing my expectations for this game. Or trying to.

Memo to Muzbt: this is what is called a measured response.

Take note, dip:poop:

Of course not.

So explain me this.

We win by a 30pt margin, the ladder is:

1. Storm
2. Roosters
3. Dragons
4. Rabbits.

How exactly would that make us 4th?

Terrible news about Thommo.. never put in less than 100% for the Dragons.

Dufty dumped Gypsy back to custodian role for his last game at their spiritual home. How does Aitken keep his place? Someone tell me. Mann is a more than useful utility player but he is not a creative one.. is there no one in the lower grades with a modicum of creative flair? Gaz we need you back for the finals?

I really hope Mary starts with last games starting pack.

Luch needs to own that left edge with Vaughan out and keep on his current form trajectory.

Friz was huge in the middle.

Plus, I still reckon Leeson's punch off the bench is a major weapon...

Dragons: Veteran winger Jason Nightingale has been shifted to fullback with Jordan Pereira elevated on the bench and Jai Field dropping out. Matt Dufty is back on the interchange. A forward reshuffle has sent Leeson Ah Mau back to the bench, Luciano Leilua is starting in the second row and Tyson Frizell moves to prop from the back row. Jacob Host and Blake Lawrie were omitted an hour before kick-off.
