Roberts is small, average defender, kicking game that barely cuts it in NYC and has never been a great organiser.
All his firstgrade games he has played second fiddle and looked OK, and ironically, his two best games were when he played second fiddle to Stig.
If Roberts were good he'd carve up in NYC. He doesn't. Barely holds his own most weeks.
At the start of the Bennett era you really can't say any player won't improve 100%, but Roberts will have to if he's going to have a firstgrade career.
Roops I know Stig is one of your kids but come on. You're underselling Roberts extremely. Who cares about NYC, he made a very good account of himself in first grade as far as I'm concerned, and if it wasn't for a horrible night with the boot against St. George he might've been the one in the 6.
And he wasn't afraid to put his body on the line either, in his 6 games Tyrone missed 9 tackles. In his 10, Stig has missed
36. Even when we were well on top of teams, he missed 5 vs Raiders, 5 vs Cronulla and 4 vs the Gold Coast. Maybe when you're setting up tries like Thurston or Marshall you can be excused, but Stig isn't. He's just catching the ball, stepping into the line and missing tackles.
Want to know the last time Stig registered a try assist? Round 19 against Manly. We've scored 21 tries in that time, and Stig hasn't had a hand in any of them. Even in games when we scored 40 or 50 points. Cameron Ciraldo has had a better strike rate in putting players through holes for tries.
If Roberts needs to improve by 100%, Stig will have to double that. The honeymoon is over.
