God we suck at wrapping up the ball.
Wouldn't surprise me if we concede the most offloads in the comp...
God we suck at wrapping up the ball.
Didn't see the game, but was Roberts really that bad or is everyone here looking for someone to blame rather than just accepting we simply weren't good enough?
You're defending Roberts by having a go at Mason who has been arguably our best player since arriving here and he didn't have the best game and his first error in a long time? Come on dude!
Houston on Thurston was horrible - agreed. WTF did Kade do wrong? He didn't look levels below Tamou or Scott IMO.
McKinnon been solid all year as well.
Roberts may have missed 2 tackles, but it's all context with them. 2 that lead to tries and were just piss poor attempts.
I didn't do a great job of explaining myself so I'll try again.
The difference between us and the better teams is those three things, we aren't strong enough in each of them. Forget tonight, that's irrelevant, losing mid season games to the raiders and titans when they were going like busteds sealed our fate.
We don't have the cattle, established and coming through, our junior nursery is barren if Roberts and tets are examples. Compare us to big guys and it's pathetic. We haven't exactly hit the market either, Scott is our only recruit for 2013.
We don't have fierce competitors in the team, blokes who just push through adversity through sheer willpower, we used too, not anymore.
Finally, the hunger isn't there like the top teams, we don't want it enough, dropping 5 straight mid season was proof of that. Look at the 1%'s, we just don't scrap and fight for every last possession and in every tackle, things runs against and we drop our bundle.
We used to be unbeatable at home, now we likely won more on the road than we did infront of the fans.
Bennett won't be happy with 2012 and neither should we, we have a better team that's performed worse than previous years.
Until we get the same mentality as the top teams, we arent in the race, ffs Manly are going to go close to winning the comp 3 times in about 5 years, with all their infighting and financial issues.
When are we going to be a challenger again?
he had a bad game but on that 6th tackle play he had guys on him as soon as he got the ball he was just trying to keep it alive as we needed points this time it didnt come off, the rest it was his worst game for us especially the missed tacklesNot to mention his pass to no one on the 6th tackle in our own half which put us under further pressure, his ridicolous attempted pass to Gagai after he made a break when taking the tackle was the only option.
I won't go and say he is as bad as Shane says he is but he clearly lacks confidence for a NRL play maker and cracks under pressure whether it is in attack or defence.
Luke WALSH is Andrew Johns compared to this nuffy !

shane obviously has some other issue with him going by his ridiculous over the top criticism
some people want to make him the scapegoat but bennett obviously rates him, he has played less than a season of 1st grade i hope we are patient and stick with him.

My POV on Roberts is, I don't think he's bad. He's showed that he's got some ability.
I've just been disappointed by his last couple of weeks now when the big games come up and we needed to perform he is the one that put the team under ultimate pressure.
Glad I missed the game after all the above comments! It was only a matter of time for the other teams to target Roberts. seen it creeping in over the last couple of weeks.
Anyhow we still have the NSW Cup side in the top four so maybe we can focus on them for finals footy! I think the first grade team for next year is anyone's guess not worth thinking about at this point!!
dont think stig was injured when roberts got his first chance over him this year when gidley missed just 1-2 games early in the year, when he was hurt the 2nd time and out for the season yes he was & bennett didnt have many other options, however thats not just what i was going off ive seen a number of times now bennett has singled tyrone out for praise after a game and in the preseason. Not sure whether Bennett rates him or more likely he had no other options with Gidley and Stig out for the season and Smith probably too young.
To me he just seems to lack real confidence and never really involves himself as a half should. This lack of confidence leads to making bad decisions under pressure.
Whether he is a shy type which results in a lack of confidence I am not sure. He does have potential deep down but unless he overcomes his lack of confidence his time in NRL will be very limited once the halves come back and Smith gets some more experience.
