I didn't see the game but no Edwards, Lauire or Cleary down in Melbourne basicaly full strenght at home? Lost on goal conversions.
I'd be more worried if I was them then you. I would of expected them to win by 12 with Nathan playing the whole game.
I feel for Laurie. Whenever he gets a chance he ends up out. I think he is to go to be a back up.

I expected slow start, I didn't expect last week's lost though. If we can be 5 and 3 going into magic round then we are still on track for top 4

Pretty happy with that.

One thing no one has mentioned was the rain, it's been our kryptonite for a while now. The ball control was outstanding for the most part and 5 pretty well constructed tries.

Discipline is an issue, fix that up and we are on our way.

Don't really want to see Milky at the back again, but all things considered he can be proud of his effort. Should have competed on the Coates try, positioning not great, but to be fair on at least one of the trys the Strom played it to get him caught in the line, not much he could do there.

Cole rocks and diamonds, but he is still raw, plenty to be hopeful about. Blaize also has a lot of upside.

Leota had a mare, and I really wish Kenny would work out when to just pass and stop with the little 2 step before shoveling it on. I get he is trying to engage the markers, but he doesn't have the awareness on when its needed and when speed in getting the ball away is more important.

Great effort from the boys last night,I wouldn't make too many changes.Laurie if fit goes to fullback maybe sorenson and leota to the bench, and start papalii and henry they were our 2 best forwards i thought.

a few thoughts:
- we (fans & team!) should definitely come away with confidence knowing that we still have the collective spirit to dig in & never give up. Despite losing our halfback/general/goalkicker, we pushed the premiership favourites all the way. if anything, Melb would be the ones worried knowing that they couldnt put us away & know we'll bank that for the games that matter at the tail end of the season

- I despise the Melb win at all costs 'gamesmanship'. Grant deliberately tackling Yeo in the back playing for a penalty should've been a penalty to us. despite being on the wrong end of what seemed hometown decisions, at least Gee penalised Munster at the end for doing Melb things. I wish they paid for it because it has to cost them one day

- the rookies all warmed up as the game went on but in the end we just didnt have enough polish to pull off a great upset but it's evident the boys still have the fire within. these losses are only going to burn which should dislodge any complacency/entitlement residue

- i'd love to know if there are any stats on the conversion rate of 'tries scored on the next set after a penalty is received'. felt like Melb scored off leg up penalties on multiplie occasions
Melbourne actually scored three tries on the set of 6 after penalties.

Ivan can fix this problem just by pointing it out.

Stupid shit out of our control. Can't account for Fugly the 8th dwarf running out of control and taking our most important player out off the ball. Can't account for Gee wanting to be the star of the show. Our discipline problem is bleh, no game has been reffed like that forever and no game will again, it was an anomaly neither team could adjust for because it was dumb inconsistent calls. We could have had a real fullback out there, but that probably would have been Talagi and he'd have ended up at half anyway.

Defence was improved, pretty good, don't worry about the score, three of those tries come from kicks against a non fullback, and he had a decent shot at stopping at least one of the other tries. New players and players thrown in last minute during the week and in game on the run, it needs to develop but it went pretty good.

Talagi looked very promising. Great boot on him. He's small, he's going to get smashed and rag dolled, but he took his medicine well. He looked better than everyone around him in backline plays, he's right there bursting onto the pass exactly where he should be and a step ahead of where Luai's loping would have him, at least once his outside men weren't up to speed and too far behind him, another time the pass feeding him wasn't soon enough.

Cole is ok as a back up and organiser. I'd be trying to get him time in the 9 to make him a 14, his defence is strong and that's a good baseline to work from.

Easy. Just get up from the tackle. Sprint back to the other side of the field. Be in position to clean up the grubber.

Man we've been spoiled by Edwards.

A "fullback" refusing to contest a bomb coming straight to him on his own try line simply isn't acceptable.
Its not his fault but he's shouldn't ever play 1 again

I normally take losses very badly but I actually feel OK after that one. Losing Nathan after a few minutes, our inexperienced spine and in the end goal kicking could have got us across the line against a pretty much full strength Storm. I’m loving Henry and other than those bad kicks I thought Cole went well and there were some promising signs for Talagi. With a 7 day turnaround hopefully the boys can get some reps in during the week in the actual positions they will play in and all going well we should go Ok against the Bunnies.

Yeah, pretty much. Given his experience in that position it's forgivable though. Thought his effort for the most part was great.

Edwards plays you would be confident he stops at least 2 of the Storm trys, possibly 3. Milky played his role in a few of ours though that Edwards may not have or not executed as well, so it's all means little for the 2 points.

On the flip side even someone as limited as Milky showed just how bad Dyl's ballplaying is.
Edwards is the best defensive fullback in the comp and maybe the worst with ball in hand.

The balance of the side going forward will be very interesting. Can't have nothing at 1 once Yeo finishes up.

Agree with this. Milky played his part perfectly in at least 2 of the backline shifts (the Alamoti tries).

Both of these moves were silky smooth and almost uncharacteristic for us, because our fullbacks playmaking skills are highly lacking. It blows my mind that Edwards was ever a 5/8 in his junior years.

The fact that he was a 5/8 is crazy and shows that he won't really improve. He's basically the finished product

Sucks to lose but can't fault the effort under the circumstances. Showed great resolve to stop the Storm running away with it and then to fight back.
The good news is we have plenty of improvement left and have key guys to come back.

Talagi has class and vision. He just needs time to develop properly and get the Parra stink off. He has played more NRL games than reserve grade games. Rushed way to early into FG. We did something similar with Coote and Graham. Jumped a grade out of desperation.
Thankfully we have the systems in place now to get the best out of him. Just need to be patient.
