Round 5 2016 vs Storm Game discussion

Yeah, rewatching it, it's the side's inability to slide and stay in formation that lead to that try. Blaming Aku for doing what he's been guilty of doing in the past was a knee-jerk.

My bad, Aku. You couldn't have done much about that when the rest of your side was on the other side of the field trying to figure out how to give away another penalty.

Our completion rate was like 90% too. Not sure of the game stats but I reckon every stat would be in our favour except the score. That just says execution let us down

i love how we couldnt buy a penalty yet they were handed one each time they looked in trouble. At least four times in the final 10 we were held down far too long and weren't given a fair penalty.

Incredible inconsistency.

I can't even get angry - they're trying really hard.

Obviously they still have a hell of a lot to work on but I think we're slowly going in the right direction.

This has happened every week. We just get penalised because we are the knights, yet we arent doing anything different from other teams, but we never get leg up penalties, the storm got heaps, last week the warriors got heaps, the titans got heaps as did the raiders.

Proud of the effort. But I still can't wait for us to get that 1st win (and hopefully a few more).

Can't leave this game feeling too pissed.

We had 2 early losses which affected us massively. Big props to the forwards playing big minutes and digging deep.

Fairly good effort. I would say I'm confident for next week vs Tigers but who knows if they'll show this same effort. Home crowd should help.

Yeah, we gave it everything today. Had a few things fallen in our favour we may well have won. Much better effort. Need to keep building on it, rather than going backwards again next week.

The refs expect us to lose.

It happens every year. The refs are so scared of making a mistake they always ping the shit out of the side expected to lose and go easy on the other because nobody will think anything of it or ask questions when the side expected to win inevitably does with all the leg ups.

As close as it was, there's still a long way to go.

We lacked any real attacking spark but, perhaps more worryingly, we could have lost that be a fair bit more if the Storm hadn't continually botched the many, many chances we gave them at our line with stupid (whether justified or not) penalties.

Our defense looked good in portions, but Melbourne did a lot of the work for us by just spilling the ball in good positions.

The refs are a real problem and are a blight on the game. There was at least 3 penalties in that last 10 minutes that were not awarded to the knights whereas the Storm received 4 straight penalties.

It is quite clear that the refs provide more leniency to the game favourites and this game and last nights game where the Broncs were off side most of the night and no penalty at all was awarded for offside.

Terrible performances by Penenara today and Maxwell last night

Considering injuries, the team and playing the storm at home, that's about as good as we could have expected.

Much better effort than against the warriors.

And frankly considering the reffing, we should be happy than it was only 4 points in it. Refs just ping us for fun compared to the Storm.

Surprising that our real weakness right now is in the halves, Trent and Mullo just look clueless inside 20.

I feel like Mullo and Hodko let us down a lot. They need to create more opportunities when we're at their end.

I feel like a lot of our halves problems actually start with Randell at 9, though. We look pants in attack when he's on the field.

There were some good points out of the game, especially considering the penalty count and the injuries.

But that penalty account can't be blamed entirely on bad refereeing, and it's not like we haven't been guilty of laziness in clearing the ruck in the past.

We stuck with them and there were some players (especially forwards) who showed plenty of pride and passion.

But we also could have been out of that game a lot sooner. The Storm did not look good at all, and it was just as much us trying our guts out as it was them being complacent and sloppy as hell. How often do you see Smith throw that many errant passes or the Storm blow that many chances on a side's line?

It's arguably the best we've played in a while (although Canberra was a good showing too), but it could have turned very ugly if we'd given up that much possession and field position to a motivated side.

TBH i didnt think randell was too bad, yeah a few passes weren't exactly on hodkinsons chest, but he made some great pressure relieving runs out of DH.
