Round 6 v Redcliffe

Bit late to the party but just wanted to try and add to the discussion.

1. To my eye the amount of errors and penalties we give away has skyrocketed. We have completed at >80% only once this year against the storm and we looked decent even after Cleary got ruled out. This leads into my second point:

2. We are no longer a team who can defend multiple errors/penalties. If a team gets a whiff of our tryline we seem to capitulate pretty easily. (I note the ongoing right side defence discussion, noting that our left is slightly better). We can either fix our defensive frailties or the other option is that we absolutely, 1000%, MUST NOT give away easy penalties, 6 agains or line breaks because we simply can't defend them. I'd say the second option is probably a quicker fix than the first.

3. In saying that, as crap as we have been in ball handling, sides generally can't get up the field to our tryline without the massive freebies we've been handing them. When we get into our grind, it does still work, we just can no longer allow the opposition easy opportunities.

4. With our attack I feel it isn't that bad. We are still scoring points and left plenty of tries out there yesterday. (Smith at the line, Casey with 5 to go, Alamoti in the corner, probably could have got another in the first half going left if we didn't through floating interceptions) It could be better of course but isn't a major worry.

5. Essentially, our standards have dropped. Yes that can be because of fantastic players leaving, yes because we've been the best side for 5 years and it's hard to keep going, yes we have had several injuries to key players, yes CommBank stadium is a shithole that we should evacuate as soon as possible but if we want to make excuses then we have already lost.

In saying that (and this might be massive copium) if we play at our best, I still get the feeling we will win it in October. Big ‘IF’ but I can't see who can go up a gear if we reach the top. Just got to sort out our current issues ASAP.

Get the win this week against the dolphins, I don't care how we do it. Just get it done. After that we line up the roosters for some revenge and go from there.

(P.S. Chins is definitely an insane Tago hater but he is right, Tago needs a rest/drop, not every try is his fault, Cleary/Martin/Alamoti have made dumb errors too but some of his defensive decisions are mind blowing)
Some really good points

Other than known trolls, there's no one here worth blocking, even if they bang on with their personal agendas on certain players more than I would.

Block me you sweet old man. I'll miss you but I'll understand
Blocking anybody is counterproductive. Never done it, never will.

You totally miss the point in this debate.

It’s not so much about the individual ie Tago or Schneider or Eisenhuth it’s the unrelenting negativity that most find depressing.

The point is even if most share your opinion on Tago and perhaps the majority do they don’t need to be reminded in every second post you make. That’s the point here. We get it, we understand you think he should be dropped, we can see the issues with our own eyes.

At the same time this side even at full strength is no longer unbeatable that’s the reality and we need to stop this sense of entitlement. We are going to be in a dog fight just to make the eight so I hope we can put to bed this notion of 50 point wins and other easy victories because it just doesn’t do us any favours.

Haha not the same.

Don't get too upset. We've started poorly. But the Dolphins won't be as hungry after a win today. It's not controversial to say that.

Who is to say if that 1st win starts a roll for x team.

We had 2 extra days rest and it was a milestone game for GOD and still were beaten in most areas.

Next week could be same, hoping it is not

We 100% sucked no excuses. We've lost to bums. The hardest being Souths with a legendary coach at the helm.

In the first 5-6 rounds you fear the team that hasn't won a game. Dragons pulled the Storm pants down. Eels have been awful and just scrapt their way to a win. Roosters in a different way got us after a long break between wins. It's just a general comment about sport. You can't keep losing again and again.

Fear the premiers losing 4 straight. Are we going to lose 5? Maybe but you'd be very brave to back the Dolphins.

Well if you are tipping on ladder position then Dolphins are favourites.

Normally yes in some sports. But RL has had cases of long losing patches. So losing can become a habit

We build a habit of losing after 5 rounds? We've made 5 straight grand finals. We aren't that f**ked just yet.

Its a terrible start. Top 4 feels a bit out of reach considering who we have out during Origin. Ivan needs to dive into his bag of tricks (Schneider?) to snag more wins at that stage.

The whole narrative around this season to date is delusional. We are where we are because we haven’t been good enough. The whole notion we somehow will flick a switch and all will be fine and dandy is ridiculous frankly. Our best 17, is no longer the best 17, we need to be honest with ourselves and accept it. No one wants to accept reality but the fact is we need to go into a rebuild phase and build for reinventing ourselves for 2027 and beyond.

Not feeling it sorry. We are far from a re-build.

Losses:
Luai
Turuva
Fisher-Harris

You could argue the losses were greater in previous seasons.

We have lost players. But we have not had some mass exodus that has resulted in the cataclysmic collapse of the Panthers. Watch the Sharks and Storm matches and its obvious we are well in the hunt in 2025.

This team has gears.

I tend to agree. Again I saw improvement last night. The squad doesn't need gutting either.

I think over the next month, things will turn around. Will it be good enough to get into the 8. I'd like to think so.

Many of the players look tired and stressed. They are going away together this week. A good chance for them to have some fun and be less stressed about everything.

I don't know whether we will win against the dolphins, they looked really good this afternoon.

But I believe getting Edwards back, and Scotty too hotty will help.

I always knew the beginning of this year would be tough because of the changes.

I also believe they are too talented and driven to throw the towel in this early in the season.

Just my thoughts.

We've got issues no doubt about it. Drop players or stick solid I have no idea. You need to get W and we only have 1 so far. Maybe our terrible form will see guys like Lindsay and perhaps even Edwards miss Origin which would be a massive bonus come mid-year.

I know it sounds selfish but I'm hopeful no Penrith players get picked this year.

We have been in all games (even the chooks game, where we were horrible) up to our ears.

Leota's disallowed try last week. Pauly A almost try last night.

To me, it's not total doom and gloom. I can recall the storm going through similar. lost 4 2022 between rounds 16-19 Lost last 3 of season too. So in my opinion it's not yet time to throw toys out of cot.

This feels like the 2019 season. That was really a bad run of losses then a good run off wins

We will go on a dry patch, make some changes go on a run too late to do anything.

Assess over the off season make a run off it next year.
