This is precisely why throwing Nathan on a 1.3m a season 10 year deal is a MASSIVE risk for us. People who are suggesting anything like it are either crazy or massive 'gamblers'.

He is 27 and has had some significant injuries, some reoccuring. Big money and huge duration for a player who is injury prone, and one injury away from severe impairment/Retirement.
16 other clubs in the NRL would love to pay him more than we are.

I imagine Cole will be back in the 6 next week. Ivan has picked him as the horse to back and it's likely based on attitude. I don't doubt there's an element of making Blaize earn it as well which I am fine with. If he earns it, amazing. They've both been given a game plan of defending and running which isn't going to make a heap of people happy but its where Ivan believes a young half should start. It's what Nathan did in Origin for years and having a simple role initially in a team lead by Maloney was a huge part of his successful development curve.

I do think if Cole ends up as the 14 it might not be the worst for his development. He is obviously a tough character and a good team mate. The Salmon comp might be pretty accurate in that Salmon was not good enough for any position in first grade but had a decent amount of skill and was a great team guy, he made himself into something that could fill a need. Now he's playing lock for the table topping team and from the games I've seen, he's been pretty good in that role. I wouldn't be surprised if Cole takes a while to season, he just doesn't have the raw skill or physical attributes to make a difference out of the gates but there's enough there for a committed personality to forge himself into a good NRL player.

i hope Ivan stops with the Leota & Paps front row start - it doesnt seem to be working IMO - they provide more impact then Smith or Henry who seem to be the toilers

i think starting the toilers is the better game plan moving forward.

read a FB rumour today that Edwards failed fitness test - so maybe he gets cut tonight at the 8pm announcement

I disagree but there is small element of risk. We are talking about a future immortal. 1.3M will be average for good halves in 3/4 years. If Nathan was on the open market clubs would be lining up to sign him on 1.5M plus.

Betting markets haven’t changed which gives me confidence- the fact this was reports 4-5 hours ago ( the rumour I saw was on Facebook panthers group) you’d think the bookies would be on it quickly
