As bad as the defence is. The attack was worse. We had so much ball and did nothing with it
We were desperate and lost our heads, which doesnt make it ok but it isnt really indicative of our capacity. We aren't a team with flashy players that can throw the ball around and have it come off. We need to be ahead or at least in touch and grind teams down. Our attack's been fine when we've been at or around parity on the scoreboard.

That said, we've been ok without Schneider at 6. With him there it gets worse for sure.

Its just not clicking at the moment.

A win is certainly needed. Starting this week.

We just need a win however it comes to gain some confidence.

I think theres enough class in the team still to be damaging this year to even the top teams.

Starts with defence though.

One change id make is move martin to the left. Start garner on the right edge. He is the fastest backrower we have an best lateral mover. Hopefully that might sort out the issue on the right in defence.

Interchange martin and soro on the left.

Smith and henry to start as they are our best defenders. Paps and leota off the bench.

If we can start well next week and keep a team scoreless for the first 30mins i think we can build in confidence from that.

1. Edwards
2. Jesse
3. Alamonti
4. Tago
5. Casey
6. Blaize
7. Nath
8. Henry
9. Kenny
10. Smith
11. Martin (left edge)
12. Garner (right)
13. Yeo

14. Cole
15. Paps
16. Leota
17. Soro

Get guys off before they are completely gassed. Fresh legs helps with our line speed in defence.

Its not happening atm so we need fresh blokes out there when guys are tired to keep up the intensity.

The attack will come when we fix the defence.

Definitely just need a win tho this week.

The last 2 weeks we have lost our way in attack. Everything was just so slow. Kicks at the end of sets that rely on mistakes to score.

So many passes hitting the deck

I see the toxic positivity is back. Well the team had a bad game 50 years ago that someone went to see so that makes them a real fan. Piss off. Nothing justifies going 1 - 5 with the way they've played and no fan of any team should accept that. The team themselves shouldn't accept that.

Edwards kicking to one of the fastest players in the game instead of a simple draw and pass is unforgivable. He also butchered multiple overlaps.

The edge and goal line defence is unforgivable.

Cleary has been alright he just looks under too much pressure to do it all and carry the team similar to Yeo who's getting worn down by it.

They look like they haven't trained at all which is on Ivan. They're unfit and disorganised. I'd expect it to turn around and at least look like an nrl team even when they lose but each week it doesn't happen they've been barely reserve grade standard and will miss the 8 entirely as it stands.
Edwards didn't look 100% fit.

If fixing our defense was a simple as plugging in a good defender at 6 then I'd actually (as much as it pains me to say) be into the idea of Schneider there. He is beyond putrid with the ball though.

Alarmingly our defensive issues have been primarily on the right side where all our most experienced edge defenders are. Martin is considered an elite defender. Cleary was considered an Elite defensive Halfback - probably the best in the game a few years ago. 2 Years ago Tago was dropping elite backrowers and Centres dead. Now they're dropping his daks.

So in summary - no, a defensive #6 is not the solution. We are defending EVERYWHERE like shit. In some of our other games we have been scored on down the middle which in past seasons would almost never happen.

ironically we need a Covid reset like 2020 - we need multiple byes back to back - this team is exhausted

rest is needed more than wins at this stage..... maybe we need to have a shocker year where we arent playing into October.

harsh but there's NSW boys in that team that dont warrant an origin spot right now

I dont know what the hell it was i watched last night but if they can sort out the edge defence, it will go a long long way. Defence in their half was more than fine and they took almost a half to get over the 50m line.

But Tago is abysmal and Casey and Jenkins cannot be near each other .

Our Roster needs a bit of a clean out. Paps is a complete pumpkin. Management must have been high when they thought he was a decent replacement for Fish.

Just think for a minute, the TIGERS, the 3 in a row SPOONERS were not at all fussed in letting him go.

You get some people in here who think Ivan and the coaching staff could turn a beat up bomb into a performance vehicle, but it turns out we don't have Magic dust like we thought we did.

I honestly think a fair degree of hubris has crept into the organisation from management, to coaching staff down to some of the players. If there is one silver lining, that would be that a disaster year might bring some humility back into the organisation and from there we can build the hunger again.

Round 1 Edwards Cole Cleary Kenny
2 Edwards (injured) Cole Cleary Kenny
3 Jenkins Cole Cleary (injured) Kenny Blaize
4 Laurie Cole Toelau (injured) Kenny Schneider
5 Laurie Cole Cleary Kenny (injured)
6 Edwards Blaize Cleary Sommerton

Edges
McLean (injured) Garner Tago Alamoti
To’o McLean Tago Alamoti
Alamoti McLean Tago To’o
To’o (injured) Jenkins Tago Alamoti
Jenkins McLean Tago Alamoti
Jenkins McLean Tago Alamoti (sin bin)

No consistency on the edges and in the spine. No genuine time spent with players inside shoulder and outside shoulder.

Edwards
To’o
Tago
Garner
Alamoti
Schneider or Laurie
Cleary

Kenny hk

if they can get 3/4 games in a row with that backline and spine they’ll be right.

Laurie is better attacker than Cole.
Schneider is better defender than Blaize.

Schneider can see the game better than Cole.
Laurie is more elusive than Blaize.

However Cole = Schneider in attack and Blaize = Laurie in defence.

Good analysis. I agree with you.

I think if we can find some form and get on a roll anything is possible. Remember the 2003 side, came from nowhere to win 12 games in a row and the GF? However, if we do miss the finals this year a long off season might do some players the world of good.

Broncos lost 6 in a row in 2001 and made a prelim after they won the premiership in 2000. That would have been post-Origin though.

Not sure which teams have started this poorly and got away with a successful season.
