Look at The Raiders as proof that big forwards don't mean big yards. Massive pack but still struggle to dominate. I think Wayne is a victim of his own genius defensive structure. Price and Griffin simply know what to expect in attack. Both Saints are Broncos are bigger and more mobile sides. It is not rocket science. Bellamy simply made the wrestle his bread and butter to really put his stamp on the game. Outside of that it is Wayne Bennett all the way. No shame in that. Beau Scott looks to be returning to form. Saints are a different machine with Scott in form. That guy is a massive buy.

Hey peeps,

Long time LU reader and massive Knights fan, first time poster.

Just my opinion of last night's game.

I personally didn't think we were all that bad last night TBH, I think it was more that the Dragons just out played us. There were some errors in our game but I think these were errors forced upon us by their defensive line, I would argue that the Dragons' defense last night was possibly their best effort all year, their forward pack was all over us.

I thought Boyd was much better last night than the last 6 weeks, he is showing patches of his class, that cut-out to Uate was perfect and exactly what I feel we have lacked out-wide for some years (not that Kurt at fullback couldn't set up his outside men but his execution of these plays can be a bit all over the place) Possibly Boyd's main issue right now is his involvement, I feel as if he isn't quite sure when to inject himself into the game, not sure whether other players out there are over-ruling him or whether he is just down on confidence but hopefully that try assist from him is the start of a rise in form and involvement.

Mullen was good without being great, as were our Wingers and Bedsy, Tahu was good when he had some space.

Probably the main disappointment for me (and many others so I have read) would be the performance of the forwards. I think it's safe to say we were dominated fairly comprehensively, I was happy with the decision to bring Tui back as I wasn't too sure what he did to get dropped in the first place, however I'm not sure why Faas was dropped (unless injured) as I think he really was what we needed last night, a guy to just run hard and fast, put a couple of tacklers on their backs and earn us a penalty or a quick play the ball. Unfortunately we really missed him last night as outside of Faas we don't have anyone who is capable of that.

Our goal-line defense was overall pretty good, the boys seem to be tackling for each other and our scramble was very impressive. Although Zeb's one on one miss was very poor. We should have been down by at least a couple more tries at half time but our last-ditch defense was up to it.

I thought the Zeb no try was a disgrace, I was watching the game at a noisy pub and couldn't hear the commentary but I was watching it and thinking to myself "what are they checking this for?" when they went to the video, and when it was no try I was shocked. TBH at the time I thought it must have been something other than the obstruction as I really couldn't see how the dragons player was prevented from tackling anyone (he wasn't even near the ball carrier at the time) but yeah that's a really bad decision in my books. However I think we got lucky with the Ben Creagh no try in the first 10 mins, I think he had enough control and downward pressure on it to be a try. Also realistically the way it was going we still would have been at least 2 points behind so still may not have scored again anyway.

I'm expecting a big game from us against the Panthers in a couple of weeks time, most of our squad will have lots of time to recover from the beating and hopefully will be nice and fresh so we can have a big one.

The obstruction rule has had the common sense removed from it.. From last night's commentary it appears you can obstruct as long as you do not stop to impede a defence players road to the ball carrier or place your hand on them. In other words you as a defender just need to bump a decoy runner and fall over and the penalty is given.

Snowden doesn't worry me really, those suggesting he isn't in the top bracket are flat out wrong in my oppinion. What worries me most about snowies bad game is that nobody stood up in his place. Does this mean we will get belted whenever he is off or absent?

Faas was missed.

Rolla, you honestly believe Snowden is the equal of blokes like Civeno, Merrin, Shillington, Scott, Tamou, Gallen, Hannant, Scott and even Josh Macguire to name a few?

Yeah i do mate. I think he has been great in most games. Also remember petro has Hennant, gillet, thaiday on there with him.... scott has Tamou etc etc. I think Snowy carries us a little as our only real metre eater so he is targetted more, but he still looks great and contributes top numbers and quality.

I agree he had an ordinary game against the dragons.

I think the one thing we are all not taking into consideration here is the short turn around the guys had to deal with this week. It could well have been a factor in the overall drop in performances that we saw

We are getting respect back in spades. That is what makes me happiest. No team takes us lightly. Long time since that happened. I know folks don't want to hear it but next year is when we will really gel. This season is a rebirth for many many years to follow. We are developing the groundwork for a winning culture.

DROP IN PERFORMANCES - Was that even possible from the Sunday debacle against the Eels - no matter how many days there was between games? We (holy shit this is gonna sound bad) played 200% better against the Dragons than we did against the Eels. Whatever way you look at it or make excuses = WE SUCK ! at the moment

Again total dismissal of a very tough draw. Broncos are gifted Friday games in comparison. It is a joke. Shane u may be right on the Parra game but to say we suck is utter bulls###. We did not submit.

Tough draw - maybe but you HAVE to play the cards you are dealt - as for the broncos dream draw - what in gods name has that got to do with the way our girls in skirts are playing = NOTHING : and the NSW swifts could have beaten parra last week by more than we did - FACT is showstopper - WE SUCK (for now) - undeniably

Good post Mr_Knightside - welcome to the forum.

Don't pay any attention to Shane, he's not the full quid.

Was Kidley missed last night? Maybe we needed someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck to get us back into the game and we just didnt have anyone...

I for one will be happy to see Kids back in the 7. Tyrone went ok but another leader and more energy would have been quite valuable.

I think Tyrone is a great prospect. Much better than Stig. I'd like to see him kept in the halves and Gidley shifted elsewhere. Debate about where that may be will rage on.

I've noticed our line speed has dropped in the last few weeks, so Gidley's leadership in the line is definitely missed imo. Gidley might not be the greatest half, but his energy reflects on the team and he can help put some pressure off Mullen for him to play his natural game.

Roberts is a good prospect, but I agree that Gids is a far better option at 7 right now.
