Round 7 v Dolphins (Darwin)

Edge defence is bad but not really, just bad by the standards of our recent past. Gone are the times of our suffocating pressure defence from the inside and Momo and Crichton magically single handedly covering both the centre and backrower.

Tago, Alamoti or McLean are neither particularly good or bad defenders, they’re all average and just there when teams get it right and run a fullback round the back, create the extra man and strip us for numbers. They have to make a decision and it’s entirely luck if it’s the right one. Improvement is a team effort and starts from inside out.

Tago is a more physically suited centre than Alamoti, but he’s questionable mentally, he looks far too happy to play 18th man. Alamoti is a winger strong in most areas but a bit weak in the air, with delusions of being a top centre in the making. Milky is super strong in the air and fighting for his life to maintain credibility everywhere else. Bri was awesome but on the decline, maybe sharply.

They’re not particularly special individual players at present but players with some strong qualities benefitting from a dominant team papering over their weaknesses. But tbh I’ll back them all this season in whatever configuration in the finals against the competition, but I can’t back any of them besides McLean (who is all upside) into next season.

Bring on the next McLean and look for at least one more young blood out wide. Don’t break the bank holding the others and end up like the Storm.

No sure about iced, thst kick was uglier than most chick's I picked up at Reactor One back in the day. But like i used to say a goal is a goal. Go renriff!

I just know you're old because I don't even know what Reactor One is haha.

A goal is a goal. Katoa had a tougher shot but he missed. Nathan got rushed and recovered to kick his. Icing a kick is just doing the kick really. We don't need a tier list for field goals they all do the job.

Well this season McLean and Jenkins have outplayed him and tonight Herbie made him his bitch.

He has been spelled before, and isn’t it good to have competition for places?
Milky is basically AJ...kissed on the dick. He's fantastic catching attacking kicks and somehow worse than 5ft To'o defending them

Stop baiting for a fight on Jenkins haha.

He is literally the best winger in the game right now. No one is better under the high ball. He is the only player in NRL history to score a double in 7 consecutive games.

He has his shortcomings but he absolutely overcomes them. He is our sure thing in terms of attack. His real nickname should be 'The Bank'.

3rd best Panthers winger but that's still pretty f**king special. He's a great story but come on

I found it a tough game to watch, especially the 2nd half. With the way 6 agains are policed it's very hard to regain control and momentum.

Against the run of play that's what Penrith did. Penrith had 38% possession in the 2nd half. Yet we managed to score a try that led to golden point.
Cleary admitted after the game that he shanked the drop goal. But he had enough on it to go over.

It was (for me) a tough watch. Edwards according to Yeo in the presser had a cramp and a glut cork....(whatever that is)

I'll take the win.

I'm not willing to buy the narrative that this is as good as he gets either. I could see him adding a couple of kg and shoring up some of those shortcomings.

Ridiculous playing in tropical heat of Darwin. Good performance in parts and awful in other parts but fortunately a win for Penrith and avoid the embarrassment of losing a game after being 18-0 up.
Kenny’s injury a real concern for our defence which is looking shaky after it had looked so good in the first few weeks.

You just have to praise him right now. Playing out of his skin.

Dom Young v Jenkins next week will be a great battle. I ain't missing 2.00pm Sunday.
