Round 7 Vs The Roosters

Roosters enforcer Spencer Leniu has taken a fresh swipe at Johnathan Thurston after claims he abused the NRL legend during a spiteful clash with the Broncos on Friday night.

Leniu and Thurston reportedly had two dramatic confrontations during the Roosters’ 26-16 win over the Broncos, with the altercation stemming from the racism scandal that involved the prop at the start of the 2024 season.

In a post on Instagram, Leniu denied approaching Thurston then launched a freshed attack at the Maroons great.

“I never wanted to talk to JT. He kept trying to come speak to me,” part of the Leniu’s caption said.

“Lad (I don’t care) that you hate me for what I did. But don’t come up to me asking me questions like we’re (all good).”

“Don’t be two face (sic). Hate me lad I’m ‘eetswa’ (sweet) with that.

“But don’t be fake. “I hate fake people.”

Leniu allegedly called Thurston a “f***wit” after coming from the field with about 20 minutes remaining on Friday night, while the former Cowboys halfback was commentating for Channel 9.

Nine Newspapers reported that during another clash after full-time, Leniu allegedly called Thurston a “f***ing c***”.

Thurston reportedly responded: “What’s your problem?”

Broncos star Ben Hunt was seen trying to intervene during the exchange after full-time, while Roosters forward Siua Wong also reportedly tried to curb Leniu.

Thurston later refused to enter the Roosters’ sheds for post-match interviews having been rattled by the incident.

Code Sports reported that Thurston waited at Suncorp Stadium for almost an hour to speak with Trent Robinson with the NRL legend complaining to the Roosters coach about Leniu’s behaviour. Robinson is understood to have defended the Roosters prop.

Veteran journalist Andrew Webster revealed on Saturday League Kick Off that the NRL don’t plan on investigating the matter unless a complaint is made by Thurston or Channel 9.

“I don’t know whether the NRL will look at it,” Webster said.

“I’ve spoken to Andrew Abdo this morning and he said that unless there’s a complaint from Channel 9 or Johnathan Thurston, there’s not much they can do.

Hmm leniu has a short fuse and doesnt know when to walk away

I didn't think Cleary should have been awarded the 21 CCM.

No question on 23. Not his best game overall but came up with 3-4 of the greatest consecutive plays you'll ever see.

Crichton came up with the decisive clutch play but Cleary kicked Souffs to death.
His kicking pegged them down. Added with strong defence souffs couldn't get out of their half for most of the game.

Well let’s hope the team is up for revenge from a month back and the Chooks are a bit down from a big win against the Broncs. We need every soft bit we can get right now to work back into some defensive combinations. Confidence of even a few arsey wins will go along way.

Watching a lot of football this weekend and the only teams that are consistently looking solid are the Dogs and Storm. The rest are super streaky and/or flawed.

This tells you that the spine and coaching staff have been abysmal.

Can't disagree watching most of it. The defence is certainly not improving.

Watching that replay over and over. Very clear we were just 1 short..

Nathan was burned by the hammer and was never going to get him.

Tago saw this but instead of jamming he got caught in no mans land.

We just are getting caught out not numbering up way to often..

If it happens and we are short there needs to be a clear direction from ivan.. push up hard all together and try smother the atttack.. or slide going backwards as a group..

They are all on different pages atm..

Personally i dont think we have the speed in the backline to slide and cover so id be telling tago and Alamonti that if theres overlaps to really jam up hard together. A long cut out pass to a free winger gives time for boys to slide anyway and or dyl to come across and take the winger..

It’s clear as day that try is on Nathan and Martin, it’s an excellent example of how Tago wears the blame.

Yeah they were both seduced by Tom Gilbert. Spent way too much time looking at him.

What you'd give to have Crichton back playing right centre again.

Critter wouldn’t have stopped that. Hammer and Herbie in that situation will beat anyone in the comp.

That’s why the inside edge is the most important part of the defensive line.

Maybe not but is a decisive decision maker. You feel better knowing he is out there. He saves so many that you don't often have to talk about the guys beside him.

Yeah absolutely, Critter is an elite defender, very smart player who does solve many problems.

When was the last time one of our centres or wingers just slapped down the pass to avoid conceding a linebreak?

If I could I'd make a compilation of those plays. I enjoy them more than charge downs.
