Feel so sorry for Jed Cartwright the kid has had no luck whatsoever. Off contract at the end of this season so if he is out for the remainder of this season his time with us may be over.

The disappearance of Jack Hetherington is interesting. Hopefully his is just injured. There is a potentially a very good footy player there somewhere as Martie said and signed a new three year deal only last season. Given we have given total power to Ivan Cleary he is going to have to offload a number of players in an effort to build his ‘roster’ and maybe Jack is not in his plans going forward.

Him and Ellis I don't get the wraps on. Burns and Martin look better prospects

Kaide Ellis may be one of those players too good for NSW Cup and maybe not quite NRL standard. Personally, I think if given an extended run of games at the top level he definitely has what it takes to be a really solid NRL player. As a comparison he could certainly do the equal of what Moses Leota currently gives us of the bench if given the opportunity. I’m not knocking Moses simply saying I think Kaide Ellis is at the very least equal in ability if given the chance.

Was this the contract extension that Gus did without consultation?

Have we got a culture problem? The sex video, Hetherington and Sele missing from squads with no explanation.

Honestly i dont think it's insulting to Leota at all. He's average at best. Shown glimpses of more on occasion. But just like Katoa he is yet to kick on and prove he belongs. He's just kinda become a permanent player through lack of better options.

Bit like RCG in any form keeps a spot as there's really no one better waiting.

Signing Hetherington to a 3-year contract considering he has done zero to warrant it is symptomatic of our haphazard approach to player retention.

To be fair he doesn't make many errors just goes MIA at times

It wasn't Hetherington.

Since I posted last night I have made a few inquiries and if my mail is correct Jack’s is an off field incident. Club are aware if it obviously, police not involved and I assume being dealt with internally by his missing a couple of games. My source gave me some gossip about another one of our players which could become a major problem. Well just have to wait and see.

This was my biggest gripe with Gus in recent years. He’s handed out some deals like they were candy.

5 years for Cartwright
5 for Moylan
5 for Whare
5 for RCG
3 for Hetherington

The more players he brings in from outside, the more of our gun Flegg side we lose.

We don’t bring in enough outside talent, we shouldn’t be scared of losing some juniors.

The idea of Gould’s to move to a primarily juniors based team was flawed, it’s not the 1980’s anymore. There’s easier access to talent from across Australia, you can’t afford to only be looking inward.

5 years for Sam Mckendry too.

No issue with gambling on Moylan and Carty though. Locking them up is something any club would have wanted to do.

Even if looking back it didnt work out.

Good times.

Bring back Hook to tuck them into bed at night.

Moylan was reasonable, Cartwright was a bad gamble. He’d never really shown all that much, it was mostly hype. A quick look at his numbers showed he wasn’t up to it, missed tackles were high and meters gained were low. 5/8 trapped in a second rowers body.
