Round 8 v Eels

I am personally sick of "potential" being the rule to which we measure our success. If we want to be taken seriously we need to start producing on the regular. I couldn't care less if we have 90% juniors or the best talent in the NRL. Win games, be competitive and win premierships. Right now we are escaping criticism because of our young squad and the eventual potential but id rather walk into work on a monday and brag about a win.

Clowns turning on our only good playmaker in the last 10 years are hilarious. You merkins are so f**ked

We are very likely to lose Cleary, TMM will take time and Moylan is in a rare patch of shit form. Hard not to feel a little jaded about our progress as a team when we are doing so poorly.

I wouldn't "turn" on Cleary. They kid is a prodigious talent and we'd be insane not to stick with him. There's no way he's playing well enough to justify the hype at the moment though.

Why are we very likely to lose Cleary?

If you're talking about him following his dad, I doubt it. Playing at your fathers club might make sense as a junior but as a pro the pressure on both him and his father would be enormous if he lost form.

Likely why Gus' kid plays for the sharks and not us. Huge pressure.

I dont think, in the modern era, playing for your dad makes a difference. Whilst it would be reasonable to assume it does, I think Ivan would be more than objective over his place in the side.

Also, how long do we hang onto young halves. Tigers did for four plus years, ended well for them.

Cleary was very good last year with his game management. I don't know if it is Griffin that has stopped them but today I saw glimpses of what he needs to keep doing... which is those nice, perfectly placed kicks on the 3rd or 4th tackle which traps the opposition deep in their own half - with a speedy DWZ it almost works on occasions too. And obviously some goal-line drop outs would be nice.

Interesting my take is the complete opposite. Harder to play for your father with the pressures of modern footy. The huge money at play makes any potential allegations of nepotism even more complex.

Not sure this is anything like the Tigers situation, Cleary has barely played a year of footy yet. Still it's about them hanging around at the right price.

Sharks are currently showing us how to build pressure. 2 drop outs already in 4 minutes.

Interestingly, of the teams we've played, only the Roosters have won their next match. After playing us, footy seems easy until they run into a real team (any other team). We don't so much build their confidence, as lull them into a false sense of security.

Yeah, I saw that - some of us on here have been consoling ourselves with the fact that we have played tough teams ("we have played the top 4", the story goes)... well, they are all beatable, as the very next week (or the week after that, in the case of the Roosters) shows. We just suck.

I marked this game as the one where we could potentially get a win and maybe some momentum. Both teams should have been desperate for a win but instead one turned up and the other turned off.

IN the 80's we always used to lose after we played Newcastle or at the very least really struggled. Why? They used to batter the crap out of every team they played and at the point didn't have the backs to put teams to the sword. You always got a tough game though.

Every team we have played has spent a lot of time camped in their own half defending. It use ups the petrol and probably leaves you a bit short the next week.
