Ben Hunt goes off midway through the Dragons' Anzac Day clashSource: FOX SPORTS
Queensland State of Origin hopeful Ben Hunt suffered a shoulder injury in St George Illawarra’s Anzac Day NRL clash with the Sydney Roosters.

Hunt left the field late in the second half of the Dragons’ 20-10 loss to the Sydney Roosters at the SCG.

A candidate for the Maroons No. 9 jersey, Hunt’s injury comes just six weeks out from the series opener at Suncorp Stadium on June 5.

Round 7
Hunt started at halfback in the first two games last season for the Maroons but looks more likely to be considered for either the hooking or bench utility role this year.

His injury couldn’t have come at a worse time given No. 9 rival Jake Friend starred on return from his own shoulder injury in Thursday’s clash.

Dragons coach Paul McGregor said: “We think it’s a bad cork to his shoulder, defensively he was OK but he just couldn’t catch or pass a ball fluently enough and we couldn’t afford that when we were down by four. We needed fit bodies on the field.”

The Roosters said Jake Friend had an ankle injury, but coach Trent Robinson said that it wasn’t serious.

“He’s OK, but he’s got some packs on him,”said Robinson.

Stupidly harsh on Periera. Around 10 solid to good games in a row for us and you're ready to banish him from the NRL for 1 off game.

And don't even tell me he played bad against Manly, after his errors he ran hard the rest of the game with a point to price and his hitups were instrumental in our win.

And your idea of a replacement is Maranta LOL

Agree that’s probably the best (certainly the fastest) team we could put on the park against the Eels

& probably the most experienced pair of wingers we have - which would’ve come in handy at the finish yesterday

Rav is just too raw for open play in tight games & while Jordan’s full of bounce & energy, his inexperience caught up with him yesterday

Maranta’s got 70 games under his belt & Pearson is super quick - & outside Lomax they’d score heaps of tries IMHO

If Ben Hunt is out the answer is of course, Anthony Mundine to halfback. Apparently he's having a run in A-grade this season. He's also played more NRL games than Darren Nicholls, Lachlan Maranta and Jonas Pearson combined.

We all know it makes sense. But not Mary, he's an idiot...
