Round 8 vs Sharks

I thought that was why we brought David Boyle here this season. It's not like the club is unaware of the problem. We were all blaming Carl Jennings for the injury rate at the time, but he was 3 strength and conditioning coaches back, and nothing has improved.

So with no improvement it's just put down to "bad luck"? I know I'm probably just being over-the-top but I'd love to hear from the club what, if anything, they're doing with regards to the horrific injury toll we seem to have year in year out.

3 from 8 and we are done? We'd still only need 9/16 and have half a team of quality players back in the next month.

This is also exactly where we were last year sans injuries. Hopefully we have gotten them out of the way and can make a proper run this year.

We have never won at AAMI Park or even Melbourne that I can remember. Even at home won 1 of our last 10. Play them twice
We have a poor record against Souths play them twice.

Assume we lose those games. 9/12 needed. of that 12 includes a trip to Brisbane, Brookvale, Leichhardt and NZ.

So yeah we will will struggle

Come on, without these injuries we would be in the top four. With a healthy Soward and the DWZ call going the other way we beat the Roosters, and the knights. We played like shit last week but what do you expect? The oldest player in our backline was 25(I think) and a reserve grader playing out of position at half who was paired with a hooker. Our centres were playing there 3rd and 1st nrl game.

Do you think Soward/Wallace etc will just find form? It will take time and even at full strength those games weren't are lock to win.

The attitude's been poor all year. We let Bulldogs comeback. IMO we should of been behind 12-0 against GC I think they were tries. Aside from Manly game we have been poor in defence and doing the basics right

Soward need surgery on his back in the off season like Idris. Unlike Idris he got poor advice or thought he could handle the pain and its cost him and the club.
This is complete rubbish and it is evident that you do not know the situation the Jamie Soward was in. He had an ongoing problem with his back that can be managed successfully without surgical treatment. However after playing in the first 2 games this year it was found the problem has been made worse, possibly by playing in those games or just by general wear.

I can almost gaurentee that Jamie has been in regular contact with his specialist over the last few years, and with EXPERT opinion it was advised that surgery was not an option. But things change, and upon EXPERT opinion it has come to the point where surgery is now recommended.

I am in exactly the same situation as Jamie Soward. I have the same/similar lower back injury (bulging discs, spinal stenosis etc). Back surgery is not something to enter into lightly. 1 mistake and you could be in a wheelchair. It is not like a shoulder or knee.

Perhaps if Jamie had seen his specialist in the off season then surgery may have been performed. Or perhaps he DID see his specialist and surgery was not recommended at that time. We just dont know.

Different team, Different coach, Different attitude.

Most of you lot just look to enjoy to death ride the team.

We get players back soon, we will start to win games. Its as simple as that.

Soward was already in good form before he got hurt, we had just pumped someone 40 nil and confidence was a high. We beat the Roosters and it would of been massive for us.

You blokes are desperate to blame someone is what I see, its injuries by far having the biggest effect. Form goes up and down with just a little disruption, look how Brissy, Saints, Cowboys, newcastle, and the Sharks started compared to now. The Rorts have lost 3 in a row but not long ago Souths V Roosters was garanteed to be the GF. Souffs struggling aswell because they lost 3 players.

One of them was. The obstruction was pretty clear. It should have been 40-4 or 40-6 that game.

We had a 100% fair try pinched vs the Roosters and another almost as clear against the Knights. It hasn't been one way by any means.

All this blood letting when we are decimated by injuries. It's a bit disconcerting. Pull yourself together people. We'll come good.

This. If not for injuries, we'd be a in a completely different position - That's why it is paramount we get our conditioning up to scratch.

Of course we need it up to scratch but im not going to bag the medical and conditioning staff as it is something I know very little about. IF there is a problem then the club will have to sort it out, I am not convinced there is though.

No one's saying we won't. Will it be too late is the question.

We started the year with 10/17 players off a limited pre-season for whatever reasons. Players keep dropping so we can't get any sort of roll going. It will take Sowie 2-3 games to get to hang of things. ET has said he will have his injury all season.

Far from death riding it's a hard competiton to go on even a 4 game winning streak

If we didn't fall behind 18-0 in the Newcastle game we would of been a chance. See my post above do you think things we all go our way for 10-12 games when everyone is back? I don't so a win this week is vital to keep in touch with the 8

If I am wrong on Jamie I will put my hand up. I knew he had an on going back problem like Idris and was told he could have had surgery in the off season but opted against it.
I did say he either got poor advice OR thought he could handle the pain. The problem got worse.
If the advice was 'its same problem you have had nothings changed why operate' then I can accept that on his and the clubs part.

I still believe that the past 2 years this club has had a too many injuries compared to other clubs and questions should be asked.

I don't think anyone is death riding us but there are some posters who I noticed only post negative things and post a lot more after losses then wins.

Go and look at the Manly thread there is quite a few people practically guaranteeing a manly win etc its all pretty negative after a good start hampered by a devastating injury toll.

I got no problem with negative opinions but I think some get carried away with it. There are people who still bring up selections from 3 years ago in order to bag the coach who last year won coach of the year, that stuff annoys me greatly.

We get most of our players back within the next few weeks (plus we have a bye next week).

Soward comes back (no pun intended) 100%

We are only 2 wins off the top of the ladder.

Rep season coming - we wont be affected.

Biggest injury will be Idris - replaced by Blake / Jennings

We have the best depth in the NRL and now have blooded some new juniors.

Our only downside is that we are soft in front row options and weak on depth in the halves. These are the only 2 places we are being caught out

The injuries were a problem before Gus and Ivan but Ronnie hasn't fixed anything so he should be moved on, he is obviously not the solution.

Obviously but these things do seem to ebb and flow. The Sharks are the only team I can remember that have just been savaged all season lobg. You have to be unlucky to have bog clumps of injuries and outrageously unlucky to have it all season.

I thought that was why we brought David Boyle here this season.

He was at the Sharks last year. Not sure if any correlation but last year we got injured going to the toilet.
