Round 9 vs Dogs

It will be interesting to see what we nominate as our 18 tomorrow.

If we are able field close to what we finished the game with yesterday I hope Hook lightens the training load and concentrates on ball work and combinations.

If our halves and FB don’t fire then the Dogs will scratch out a win.

Norman is so god damned lazy I’d like him out of the team but with troop numbers so low he has to be picked.

I wonder if Hook would consider
Norman to 1
Feagai to 4 other Feagai to 2 if Williame is still out
Clune to 6 or 7 with Hunt
Dufty to 14

Burns or Fui to centre is a big no no for me.
Big No from me to move Dufty and put Norman at 1
If he is so goddamn lazy how’s is he gonna go at fullback

If he is lazy at 6 the entire team has to suffer the consequences in both attack and defence.

If he is at 1 then it is all about him and him alone and his effort will stand out like dog balls

For the record I offered the scenario on the basis of the injuries we are carrying and the lack of options facing us.

Norman at 6 and Dufty at 1 have provided SFA for the best part of 3 weeks so doing a Mary and ignoring it isn’t going to fix the problem and we don’t have enough good / fit cattle to drop either.

Id go with this , and just maybe Duff coming of the bench might work .... Like you say Norman at 1 nowhere to hide .... Just on this how would Lomax go at 1 when fit , be better under the high ball stronger at defense ..... I know super coach gave him only one game there after training the whole pre season ..... Just a thought .....

Our biggest problem is that we have holes in many positions so trying to move 1 player from here to there doesn't necessarily work.

Lomax IMO is a more than adequate centre but needs the halves functioning well to get him early ball and unfortunately that isn't happening and hasn't for some weeks.

Our halves are somewhat reliant on the forwards having some go forward coupled with good PCM and quick play the balls and that hasn't happened for some weeks.

If the halves don't respond and / or the forwards don't find some better metres then Lomax upon return might be in fact better off at FB which is a position that outstanding individual work / skills can bring reward for the player and the team.

I think if we had 2 good centres with a couple well into their development plus Lomax then you could mount a decent argument for him to have a crack at FB.

Me personally I think his future lies in 13 on the proviso we get a proper set of attacking halves.

My backline would be.
1.Dufty
2.SSE
3.Bird
4.Feagai
5.Feagai
6.Norman
7.Hunt
I would consider Amone on the bench too if we could fit him in as cover for the halves and fullback. He could replace Norman and Norman move to fullback if need be. Ford or Fuimaono would also be on the bench providing cover for centre.

Just my opinion but I don’t think SSE is ready for 1st grade just yet. Others may disagree

I have believed Lomax is our best fullback prospect for a long time.Excellent under high ball, strong one on one defence, would not be rag dolled, can run lines, communicates, can setup outside men.He hasnt had a chance to show his running skills because he has never had a decent player inside him to give him room.Would be great to give him the chance.

His first and only game at fullback he made about 3 errors but had an outstanding attacking and defensive game it was round 1 vs the Tigers, pissing down rain and Benji but on a kicking masterclass. Dropping blokes after a game like that is what made Mary such a rubbish coach.

I think the fact is we really don't have enough good NRL standard players. I mentioned last week before this debacle that the club has to find a way to have the depth that teams like storm, rorters , Penrith & Eels have. I acknowledge we are in a rebuilding period ( even though the coach denies it ) but you look at our side at present and there are 6 to 8 players who SHOULD struggle for a new contract.

Unfortunately Denis it is going to take 3-5 years for Griffin to fix this mess up. Absolute shambles that he has inherited

100%.
Throw in we currently have players who are comfortable just being comfortable. Hook has an initial 2yrs to restore the Red V, its culture and what it means to be a Dragon. It wont happen overnight. I'm confident he can do it and at the same time earn himself an extension.
I think we all get a bit worked up when we throw in a loss like that against the Tigers, however, as some point out, given the weight of possession they should have beaten us by 20+.
I said a while ago, we will win some games and we will lose some games for me it was about how we played, that was my focus.

So, onwards and upwards to the Doggies game. A game i believe we will win and win well.

Nothing but a solid win vs the dogs will fix things in here. Me included.

Injuries and suspensions were always going to be a problem for us this year we knew from the outset we had little depth particularly in the backs.

But we do have some depth in the halves & I think Norman’s place in the team must be hanging by a thread. It can’t be long until either Amone or Sullivan get a chance.

Perhaps Ramsey can play with a needle depending how bad his rib is but otherwise I am looking forward to seeing both Mat & Max play together.

Other player that might be considered is Charly Runciman

Disagree wholeheartedly that they have cashed out on the coach
Not on what I am seeing
I am seeing a game plan that may need to be changed a bit
bit more depth in attack and
let’s talk about the referees although it works both ways are starting to let the ruck slow down again
notice how there wasn’t many six again or penalties inside the 10 yesterday
Refs are slowing the game down a bit this week across the board probably around decisions for recent media agendas and outcries about the speed and the 6 again’s
except Broncos who in part were given a huge leg up when they were down 22 nil and started to come back
Our attack has been very flat... a fast rushing defence will always smother us as it has the last few weeks ... need to play deeper and kick smarter to keep them guessing
