Round 9 vs the Sharks

If we are to be concentrating on keeping the best talent, then Crighton is our utmost concern. The money spent on keeping others will have to be sorted and shifted to keep Crighton who, IMO think is our priority.

IF we lose Burton, it is not the end of the world being that we have his position already sorted. Crighton on the other hand is far too special a talent to let go.

That’s only if you view Burton as a specialist half. He has fullback written all over him as well. They’re both talents, you’d have to hold a gun to my head in order for me to decide which one I wanted to keep the most.

No brainer for me. Crichton will be star in a position we have been lacking for a while

I think he will be too, but fullback is a more important position. Arguably the most important. Crichton may even want to move to FB, so we may be forced to make a choice on who is the best in that position. Between several players as well

Any position Burton plays, we do have it covered. Crighton also has a desirable preference in playing fullback, but he is happy to be patient and let things fall into place until he gets his next contract sorted.

The best description I will put us in ATM is that we are gleefully spoiled for choice. :)

Don’t think it’s a matter of having it covered, to me it’s a matter of who’s best for the position. Burton has genuine star quality, and I don’t say that easily about young guys. Sure, Edwards is a solid FB, but I’d back Burton over him long term.

Yep, agree. They should have given Burton a run at fullback while Edwards was injured instead of using Aekins to see how he handled it.

IF Burton has as much potential as some seem to think we will be able to see it if he is playing out of position in the back line or off the bench. To'o is out for a while, train him at centre for a couple weeks then give him a run there see how he goes.

The interview with Ivan highlighted some of my thoughts on Burton too.

He's still growing. Yet to fill out.

In my humble opinion is long term *please look at those previous two words is in the back row or at lock.

If he can be bought up to speed in the centre (with the advent of Whare probably moving on at years end) he could fit in real well there.

That vision of him scoring the try against the Warriors shows he has so much speed, would love to see what he could do in the backline at some point.

Also on Burton Vs May: could May be preferred for his size? Burton is just taller but May is heavier at 94kg Vs Burton 88kg? Waiting for him to bulk a bit?

Happy to oblige Herbert (holding the gun to your head) to get your decision. :):):)

I just watched the video after reading your post and only reaffirms my thoughts that he is going to be hear beyond his current deal. The club will get him resigned I have no doubts whatsoever.

I have serious doubts we can re-sign Burton unless he’s in the starting lineup. The temptation to go to another club and start in the halves will be very hard to turn down. And remember, he doesn’t have a long association with Penrith.

Surprised to hear people talking about him playing lock, I think that would be a waste of his talents. He’s quick, give him space. Don’t play him in the middle of the field.

We’ll get him resigned. Have a little faith in our brains trust. I’m sure they know what there doing.

I would like to think we will get the contract signed, sealed and delivered well before the November 2020 deadline which is the official time (and I say that loosely) when other clubs are able to make an official approach.

Saturday 3pm is a big game against a side where our record has not been good for a long time. Bogey side I guess not least the finals loss a couple of seasons back.

I think this could be our sternest test to date. The Sharks have found a bit of form even if there talisman is out yet again. Moylan almost always seem to reserve his best against us since he left us and I think his being out is clearly a positive for us.

The West Tigers were a dangerous opponent and we got the job done but I think the Sharks are even more dangerous and have come into a bit of form so this is going to be a tough game.

Haven’t thought about Edwards in the centres, not sure if he’s ever played there?

I figure centre has a lot of crossover in skills with fullback. Needs to read the opposition attacking structures, make one on one tackles. Some basic passing and good running game. If Edwards can't do that he shouldn't be at Fullback anyway.

Crighton is the obvious bigger talent. Sure Burton is going to be a big part of our future, but I'd be more pissed off if we lost Crighton.
