Article No. 664 - August 02, 2007

The Brisbane Broncos are once again the NRL’s most popular team with an estimated 1,471,000 supporters (up 4,000 from December 2005), according to the latest Roy Morgan Research Single Source data.

The big mover on the NRL supporter “ladder” is the Melbourne Storm who, despite being beaten in the 2006 Grand Final by the Broncos, gained the most supporters (178,000) since December 2005 to be clearly second with 732,000 supporters.

Despite missing the finals in 2006, the North Queensland Cowboys’ supporter base increased by 36,000 to 539,000 — moving into third place. The Cowboys have experienced the most rapid growth over the past five years, increasing 349% from 120,000 supporters in 2001.

In fourth place the St George-Illawarra Dragons supporter base increased 11,000 to 531,000, and in fifth place the Wests Tigers saw an increase of 2,000 to 513,000.

The Newcastle Knights enjoyed a solid 2006 season, finishing in fourth position before being ousted by the Broncos in the Semi-Finals. The Knights enjoyed a 5.2% surge in supporters since December 2005, up 24,000 to 486,000.

The biggest losers on the supporter “ladder” are the Sydney Roosters (down 106,000 to 306,000), the Bulldogs (down 79,000 to 395,000) and the Penrith Panthers (down 26,000 to 201,000).

The Cronulla Sharks are the lowest ranking NRL team in terms of number of supporters. Supporter numbers for the Sharks fell 15,000 to 193,000 (down 7.2%).
Overall, the number of NRL supporters increased by 12,000 to 6,175,000 (up 0.2%).
And there is more — Roy Morgan Research Single Source data can be used to highlight some interesting aspects of NRL supporters.

For example, when compared to all NRL supporters, Storm supporters are 79% more likely to have made a purchase from JB Hi-Fi in the last four weeks, Sea Eagles supporters are 40% more likely to agree “I always read the business section of the paper” and Broncos supporters are 20% more likely to have made a purchase from Mitre 10 in the last four weeks.

Ray Morgan research comfirms sharks have few supporters. Even less who attend matches.

Vindicating my much-maligned proposition to cut them in the future.

So too, Sydney City, who have fewer supporters than a lot of clubs but more than some, though who are in a bad geographical position. Cut them too in future.

Sad but true. E.T was a great player.

Wrong!!! Once again - pridis pride.

If you take a sample of the population and ask them a question, its statistically correct.

Its not reality, its statistics.

You are mixing the two.

But get this....this is the funny part, because you can deduce reality from statistics.

This is why tv uses them, multi million dollar companies use them, politicians use them etc, etc.

Anyone who is anything RELIES on statistics. If you ask 100 out of 1000 people, its the same as 1000 out of 100,000....go right up to one billion, its all the same....people are more similar than you think obviously. Thats right! You are wrong again!! (just rubbing it in) Sorry man....people have more similarities than differences, and statistics WORK. If you ask 1000, its just like asking 100,000 people, and if you ask 1 million its the same as asking 1 billion.

So technically, bro, THEY ARE REALITY.

Thats all.

Are you 12 years old? Most of your post sounds just like my 12 year old grandson trying to pretend he's a grown up and talk about stuff he knows nothing about, while saying "ha ha ha ha" at you because he thinks he's being a smart alec.

And I can only assume that you are referring to me..........mightypanther........seeing as I have a Priddis Pride banner in my signature.......which just goes to show that you run off at the keyboard without even reading the posts properly. You didn't even know who you were carrying on at.

Your logic is ridiculous. Statistics can be twisted and manipulated to mean whatever anyone wants them to mean. Just look at governments and their twisted use of statistics to suit themselves.

And I have worked for a many large companies over the years, and watched them all regularly manipulate all sorts of statistics to suit their marketing strategies and target markets, so don't try to tell me that statistics represent reality. I think it's you that needs to take a close look at the real world and check out how it actually works, because you don't seem to have a clue.

Oh and btw........don't call me bro. I happen to be female. I love it how all you blokes keep assuming that every person who posts on a league forum must be male.

So by those last 2 sad attempts at a response, I take it that you're agreeing with me that you're either 12 years old or insane, is that right ???

Either way I'll forgive you because you're obviously not in control of your mental faculties.

At least you've confirmed for me that all of your future posts will be a waste of space, just like all of your past efforts.
