Just my quick question -

As Ron Hilditch needed to get in through a back door to get onto the Leagues Club board, does he still be the Chairmam of the Football Club?

And if he does continue to be the Chairman of the Football Club, and with Denis Fitzgerald still having a vote, that creates a 4-4 voting block deadlock for the Football Club....and the casting vote then goes to the Charman.

With this in mind - would 3P be rushing to move the NRL team back to the Football club or would it be better for them to keep the NRL team under the control of the Leagues Club ?

But as the only person that has been elected outright to both the Football Club board and the Leagues Club board, could that not be grounds for John Chidiac to replace Ron Hilditch as the chairman of the Football Club?

Hadn't thought of that... a very interesting point! Perhaps that's what this all boils down to ;-)

Also, is it possible for the LC board to relinquish Fitzy of his duties to be the football club CEO without paying him a cent and keeping him on board purely as CEO of the LC?..

offcourse the only drawback is that whilst you won't need to pay out Fitzy just yet, which you can still utulise him to look after the cashcow, you will need to appoint a seperate CEO for the football club.

obviously you'd do all that prior to moving control of the NRL club under the hands of the FC.

SMH said:
New board gives Anderson and underperforming Eels its full backing

Brad Walter | April 28, 2009

PARRAMATTA coach Daniel Anderson has been given the full backing of the new board swept to power in the club's elections and there are no plans for a cleanout of players in the struggling Eels team.

Anderson and his players received the assurances yesterday as a new era began at Parramatta after the 3P group gained 77 per cent of votes in the leagues club elections held over the weekend. The result also gives the rebels control of the NRL club, with five directors on the seven-person board, and has cast doubts over the future of chief executive Denis Fitzgerald, who last night revealed his services could be terminated without a full pay-out on the remaining two years of his contract.

Cronulla chief executive Tony Zappia, who was recruited to the Sharks from Parramatta, expressed interest in the job if Fitzgerald was sacked but said he had not been approached about a return to the club.

But aside from a possible new chief executive, there are unlikely to be any other noticeable changes at the Eels.

"We're not going in to put a broom through the joint," said John Chidiak, the only new director who is also on the Parramatta District Football Club board. "Daniel Anderson in my opinion is doing a good job and I've worked with Daniel Anderson in the past when he was coaching under Brian Smith. I know he knows his business and at the end of the day there is no question about his ability to coach."

Chairman-elect Roy Spagnolo, who manages Eels players Eric Grothe jnr and Fuifui Moimoi, said: "Daniel Anderson is working hard to try and recapture the winning spirit. We've had a couple of bad weeks and I don't know if all of this off-field stuff affects them or not, but certainly now that will be over and once the newly elected board gets the opportunity to meet the players we will make sure they understand that we are behind them."

While Eels greats Ray Price, Eric Grothe snr and Brett Kenny were the public faces of the 3P campaign to unseat the incumbent board, the group is now reconsidering plans to install them to the NRL club board by transferring control from the leagues club to the district football club, of which they are directors.

To do so would involve calling a special general meeting of Parramatta Leagues Club's 22,000 members and obtaining 75 per cent of votes for a change to the club's constitution, which also requires three of the leagues club directors to be on the board of the football club.

As a result, Ron Hilditch and Geoff Gerard will remain on the leagues club board although they did not poll in the top seven.

"The legends that are currently on the board of the district football club have always been of the opinion that they don't want a common board between the football club, leagues club and the NRL club," Chidiak said. "We're doing what is best for the interests of the club and its members - no egos and no agendas."

However, the new board is likely to separate Fitzgerald's roles as chief executive of the leagues club and football club.

Fitzgerald told Channel Seven: "There is a clause in the contract to say the club can terminate my services any time on the payment of 12 months, not two years. So if they wanted to do that there is no argument."

THE man tipped to be the chairman of the new Parramatta Leagues Club board, Roy Spagnolo, is a long-time friend and business associate of the Finance Minister, Joe Tripodi, and was a shareholder with Mr Tripodi in a company that engaged in controversial land deals with the Government.
Mr Tripodi ended up referring his involvement in Westside Property Developments, in which Mr Spagnolo was also a shareholder, to the Independent Commission Against Corruption in 2006, after the Herald revealed the company bought government land and made a profit while Mr Tripodi was an MP.
The corruption watchdog later discontinued its investigation into the matter after it found no evidence of corruption.
During the Herald's investigations in 2006 the newspaper revealed Mr Spagnolo became the landlord for the Department of Housing's offices in Fairfield, after the department decided to lease those offices 28 days after Mr Tripodi became housing minister.
At the time Mr Tripodi denied any knowledge that Mr Spagnolo's company had become the department's landlord.
Mr Spagnolo is also a director of Brenex Pty Ltd, which donated money to Mr Tripodi's 2003 and 1999 election campaigns, and he and Mr Tripodi were shareholders in another company, Brenex Electrics Pty Ltd.
Mr Tripodi mentioned Mr Spagnolo in his maiden speech as a friend he intended "to keep for a long time".
Mr Spagnolo, the manager of the league players Eric Grothe jnr and Fuifui Moimoi and who has long been a friend of the former Parramatta player Eric Grothe, bristled yesterday when reminded of the Tripodi controversy.
"I think it's got nothing to do with this football issue and there was no ICAC [investigation where] I was involved," he said.
Asked how close he was to Mr Tripodi, Mr Spagnolo said: "It's not that I frequent with him every day. I see him occasionally. The Department of Housing [arrangement] was done through an independent agent. It had nothing to do with Joe … It really, really gets up my nose when that story is still floating around.
"Westside was a little company … there was numerous [shareholders]. Joe happened to be one at the time."
Mr Spagnolo confirmed he had been approached, he said, to run for the chairman's position of the board by two members of the winning board ticket. Sid Kelly is another name that has been mooted for the role.
Mr Spagnolo said it was possible the club's long-serving and highly criticised chief executive, Denis Fitzgerald, could continue in the job - but he might also go.
"We'll meet as a board [and] we'll investigate his position," he said.
Yesterday Mr Fitzgerald said he was "pumped up" to continue. Asked whether he expected to be sacked by the new board, he said: "No. I just expect to continue to do my job, as I've done for the last 30 years."
A spokesman for Mr Tripodi said: "Mr Tripodi is overseas and is not aware Mr Spagnolo has been elected to the Parramatta Leagues board."

Well since the election thread has gone bye byes... I'd just like to say CONGRATS to the new members of the board.
I trust they will not allow Parra to fold, and in turn will make the club a better place to be :D :D

IF ROY Spagnolo had got his way back in January, he wouldn't be a Parramatta director today, let alone the club's next chairman.
Content to be a silent driver behind rebel ticket 3P's push for control of Parramatta, the 53-year-old resisted overtures to nominate for the board.
A self-made accountant turned property developer who also manages Eels stars Fuifui Moimoi, Luke Burt and Eric Grothe free of charge, Spagnolo felt his relationship with the players might be jeopardised by what he correctly predicted would be a bitter campaign.
"Everyone wanted Roy to run because he's the one with the players' respect," a 3P insider said.
"Most of them have other managers, but they all go to Roy for advice or help.
"Roy kept saying no because he didn't want the limelight, and in the end several of us threatened to walk away.
"That's how much we needed Roy to win this election."
Over a difficult past 18 months, the football team short on confidence have relied on him heavily as well.

Eels: Parramatta political woes worry players
Spagnolo might not be a household name among fans, but his home is a regular haven for players who see him as a close mate and confidant.
Each summer his acreage at Horsley Park hosts a bonding barbecue for the entire team, their wives, girlfriends and children. Spagnolo even hires buses to collect the guests from their own homes so they can enjoy a drink. The club doesn't pay a cent because Spagnolo foots the bill himself.
It was a similar story after Friday night's heavy defeat in Brisbane, when Spagnolo shouted the whole team dinner and drinks at a mate's pub in Spring Hill.
And then there was the team's first trial of 2009 in Griffith, where Spagnolo took the team to lunch at a mate's winery.
The players returned the favour over the weekend, with most taking the time to head to the club and cast a vote in Spagnolo's favour.
But as the reality of Sunday night's remarkable election landslide continued to sink in yesterday, Spagnolo conceded he had to be pressured into running for the leagues club board.
"Yes, that's right . . . I didn't run for the football club board because it was more about the former players like Ray Price, Brett Kenny and Eric Grothe," he said.
It was CEO Denis Fitzgerald's ultimate snub of those greats that inspired the 3P challenge.
The group was formed in July last year but it did not truly evolve into a political force until Fitzgerald famously rejected the offer by Price and Kenny to help coach the struggling NRL team.
The first 3P meeting last October attracted more than 30 people.
Spagnolo was among them, but went to great lengths to distance himself from being publicly linked to the rebels.
Now - just six months later - he is their chairman-elect.
"I think that, without being disrespectful to the old board, we see ourselves as being a bit younger," Spagnolo said.
"I have a good relationship with most of the players and socialise with them.
"That might change a little bit."

GODbraith Stadium.

I don't think we'd have to pay him that much to be able to use the name, either. He's a pretty humble bloke.

Exactly, and that is why I will be voting against changing it.

there won't be a vote at the agm. i didn't receive anything from the club 21 days before the agm proposing a special resolution, did anyone else?

they could put the proposal to members at the 2010 agm and have the change ready in time for the 2011 election.

i honestly hope 3p dont try and get it changed at this years agm, my conficence in them will nose dive if they cant do a simple thing like adhering to the constitution.

Funny how chinese whispers have us now sponsored by the CBA. This was based on Hadley's comment that Maroun has ties with CBA. His employment with CBA is certainly true, but I doubt that his role senior management role as Executive Manager Industrial Relations gets him much pull with CBA marketing or indeed the CBA board.

Tripodi and likely club boss are old mates

Actually I wasn't referring to the AGM, just the change itself. No matter if it's 2010 or whenever, that special rule is there for a very good reason IMO and should be kept as it is.

I support 3p and voted for them but I will definately vote against changing this rule.

Agree there. It only opens up the risk of dangers for the club and football interests if the Special Qualification rule is tossed out in the future.

3P have shown it's possible to come in and get majorities on both boards despite the Special Qualification - why they'd want to do away with it can only come down to ego and inner sanctum promises imo, not what's best for the club.
