Rugby 7s, pre-season comp and future NRL revenue

There is something wrong with this person. Rugby 7s (although I thought they played 9s) is RUGBY UNION... They still have mauls, etc.

If the ARU actually cared about this game, they would select their own Star players for the Olympics - but they don't. It would not generate as much interest as you think because it is still Rugby Union!

The NRL should just look at doing World Sevens Again.... Reduce the season by two weeks. To account for the money lost in the home games (which would be realistically one home game) the money generated in the World Sevens can be split evenly to the NRL clubs...

Teams to play - all 16 NRL sides, 1 perth side, 1 central coast side, PNG, USA, Lebanon, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and other national sides (if we wanted to, invite a small number of ESL clubs).

NRL sides must enter 2 of their top 4 paid players and at least 5 Toyota Cup players in the 14 man squads.

the nrl should introduce something like the nab cup, which is the afl pre-season comp. its a knockout comp with a grand final to decide the winner. it will create more hype for the upcoming nrl season instead of trial games, especially if its broadcast on channel 9 or fox sports...

But with rep games and the regular season already being too long, I can't see it being taken seriously by the NRL coach's.

The trials are already a "lets see who can play" with most team not even close to resembling their 17 best until the last trial.

Too much footy.

If we have Origin on a stand alone weekend, we can bring in 7's to keep TV people happy and we can take it to places like Darwin, Tas, Adelaide etc.

As for pre-season cup... no.

I would be surprised if the ARU did not put forward the strongest possible squad for the Olympic Sevens tournament in 2016. However, players who have been playing a lot of Sevens will have an advantage over those who have not, simply because Sevens is a different game. Just like RL and RU are different games.

As for Sevens not generating interest, I think you might be surprised when the Olympics rolls around. Australians are interested in top-class sporting events, no matter the code.

So the world will have a 3rd Rugby code in it's outright self when Rugby 7's takes off at the Olympics because the likes of China and U.S.A. will just put all there effort into the 7 man game while Union and League will not really get an look.
Always thought 7's should still be an end of season comp for the Union and League players in the 15 man and 13 man game but not an game for people who just specialize in the 7 man game.
