Union has exactly zero global sports stars.

Reece currently plays in front of a packed Suncorp 14 times a year for the Broncos, plus has the option of Origin in front of packed house in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, soon Auckland. Vegas, maybe Global round, Huge crowds in London & Liverpool.

Union offers 7 overseas games a year and half a dozen Super rugby games at Suncorp in front of about 12k.

NRL is closing the gap in terms of big-time opportunities and experiences for players, plus the money, plus the opportunity to be a superstar at home.

Vlandys is doing well to offer the players these experiences. It just has to be close enough and most players would be happy to stay and remain relevant.

Content appears to be king these days with so many streamers and other similar services. I think this R360 thing is a play to get a slice of the broadcast pie. Whether some on here like it or not, union has a higher global profile than league so that is why they are targeting union rather than league. League will probably loose a few players who go for the money but I don't see it as R360 trying to damage league otherwise they would be playing league not union.

League or union loosing their top 50 players would struggle, we had it with Super League. Fans loose out and the winners are players with fat pay cheques and lawyers.

I am sure the money people behind R360 would prefer soccer given its global profile but we saw what happened a few years ago with a European Super League. Stand to be corrected, but the courts did not rule the proposed rebel league as illegal, I think it found that UEFA does not have a monopoly to run soccer, but that could be European law. The fan backlash was huge. But money talks and that's why UEFA has expanded the teams playing European competitions to appease the clubs that want more money.

What's with all this "loose" business.

Arguably the best Union player in the world Antonie Dupont has re signed with French Rugby until 2031

This is on the back Finn Russell, who is also in the conversation as the world's best Union player, re signing with English union.

Looks like R360 don't have the money to sign the top players ?

Instead of r360, rugby could have an annual club world cup. Have top three teams each from English Premiership, URC, Top 14, Super Rugby, one or two teams from Japan Rugby League One and Major league Rugby.

At the moment they have European Champions Cup which features top teams and second tier European Challenge Cup. They could get rid of one of those to accommodate a club world cup.

haven't heard of them - but it is a good point that if the best union players aren't going them is this comp going to be third choice saffas and NRL players who can't get a contract?
They said they have signed up 200 union players

Looks like it’s all bs sadly

All the nrl journos that pushed this story should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute

They were supposedly going to be announcing their first 10 signings this week

No one would care. Domestic club rugby is dying globally.

Super league just added 2 teams and there's talk of their cap being lifted if the NRL buys in..
Perth and PNG coming over the next 3 years.
Rugby league will be spending between 30 and 40 million dollars more on players over the next 3 years, add to that an increase in the cap and increased spending on pathways and semi pro competitions.
In the next 3 years the Rugby league will be spending approximately 350 to 400 million per year on players, that's between Super league and NRL , that doesn't include French league, Championship, NSW cup, Q cup ect or any pathways.

Rugby league is a very obvious choice if Kiwis are smart.. and if the Kiwi national team becomes as successful as the All blacks.. what's really left to stop what will be a flood of talented Kiwis playing League over Union.

Sualii, R360 .. these are just desperate attempts of Rugby to stay relevant.
