Been proven time and gain that these sugar hits of signing players from other codes for publicity have no long term benefit to the sport. Unless Hass and the young Rooster win the wallabies a world cup, then it might be worth it.

ARU aren't messing around, Nelson tells them "no thanks" on Tuesday and by Thursday they are opening talks with the next player on thier list:D

There was an article in the smh saying rugby made an 7.8m profit last year but aren't expecting any profits this year due to only hosting 2 tests. They still haven't repaid the 25m loan they took out over covid or paid back the players who took less pay over covid.

If you signed with the ARU you'd want payment upfront :D

Worked out pretty well for the nswrl

and when union was our feeder competition we got a lot of good players like Rex mossop

it doesn’t work for union cause their sport or crap

a Ferrari looks good when it’s driving on the freeway

take the same Ferrari on a country road full of pot holes and it’s a flop

A RU junior who got a paid internship into professional sport with one of the best run clubs defected back to what he was training his life to play? Tickle me pink mate.

Having graduated from a GPS school, I can tell you first hand that RU is promoted heavily and if you're half decent, you'll get a look in. He is made for Rugby.

He went to Kings College, a solid RU school with a history of producing good players. I am not surprised he went back.

RU signed him on potential, no different to a dozen RL players in the modern era. He is also a marketing tool in the battle between codes.
I attended an Associated School , I can affirm RU is indeed promoted heavily and they are sh*t scared to introduce rugby league into their sport curriculum, even though the game of hunters, gatherers and collectors has been introduced. Ask Steve Roache whose son went to one of these schools.
These schools preach competition is good to prepare one for the cruel business world.Yet they are unable to handle having rl in their sporting choice.

Might I also remind you the numbers playing RU in the GPS and Associated schools is nowhere what it was decades ago.Sydney Boys High doesn't have a 1st XV team at last reports.

I don't have any issue with anyone doing their best to better themselves financially, but cut the crap about see the world playing Rugby Union.
India and China have over 1/4 of the world's population ,when was the last time either side played the Wallabies or ABS? Even in South Africa the overwhelming population are into Soccer.
The RWC is huge but that is once every 4 years. The Super crowds both here and in nZ are going backwards.

Does the head cravat wearer at the ARU understand most NRL players earn sufficient cash to fly first class to Europe or the States, even play in England and France and see a hell of a lot of countries.
Does he understand that any NRL player who goes over to union ,is going to have SFA effect on their TV ratings for Super comp.
I used to enjoy watching the All Blacks play with some of their magic players, and on the rare occasion the Wallabies, now I get more enjoyment watching Ricky's Raiders win by 1 point over the Dolphins.
Oh and enjoy Roger TS coming back from the ABS to the Warriors. Like the wayward child, they generally all return home.M Rogers, Wendell (Hello) Sailor, Lote ,Benji,Burgess, and other lesser lights.

And whilst you have clowns like Fitztwaddle perpetually bagging rugby league ,it reinforces the view that playing the elitist card gets you and your code nowhere in this country.
I realise I have ranted a lot, but sometimes it's needed.

QLD isn't a huge RU state, which has never really changed.

NSW, ACT and NZ is the fruit bearer for RU and they are selling on opportunity to make grade.
You remember your mate FitzSimons state boldly ,that once a super rugby team came into Victoria, the Storm would have to relocate. After all RU had a presence there well before RL(Weary Dunlop blah blah etc)and the Storm would not be able to compete with a rugby team.
Fast forward to now or reality if you will, the Storm are leaving the Rebels in their wake,The Storm getting decent numbers of AFL people either taking some kind of interest and some actually being members.
It amazes me with the domination Union has in schools (whereas rl more so in clubs), that in Oz for quite a while they have hardly produced any superstars .
Whilst ever Rugby union is the only Rugby code in these elite schools it will forever be( certainly in this country) considered an elitist sport. Not so in NZ of course.

The biggest thing holding back Rugby Union is the game itself.

Firstly, cut down the number of players. Fix the scrums to get rid of all the collapses. Get rid of the line outs and the over emphasis on penalty kicks. Introduce the six tackle rule and play the ball.

League scrums are so lame,” McLennan told this column. “League talks about toughness but I reckon an arm wrestle at the pub would harder than their scrums. Let’s have a competition between the two best sides and see who’s tougher.

“We’ll do the best of three scrums with the league version and best of three with a rugby version and see who comes out on top.

Rugby Australia chairman Hamish McLennan says the NRL’s proposed international raids have little chance of coming off.

“Rugby Australia will put $100,000 in the kitty and the winner donates the prize money to charity and we’ll get Nine to televise it live.

“If it’s a draw we’ll have a spelling competition to determine the winner.”

Is that all he wants to take RL on in lol? Here’s me thinking stuff like tackling or breaking tackles was the hard stuff not to mention the endurance.

This guy is a legitimate moron. They got rid of Morticia Addams and replaced her with Pugzley.

Who the f**k cares about scrums? That's the best rugger bugger can offer?

Here’s the results of the union-style 3 scrum play off:

Scrum 1: It takes five minutes to set. Collapses in five seconds. No result.

Scrum 2: Another five minutes to set. Collapses in three seconds. No result.

Scrum 3: Another five minutes to set. About to collapse but then the ref blows his whistle to give a penalty for some unknown reason that not even the players, audience or commentators understand. Something about the rakemucker putting his leeward hand on the aft shoulder of the centre back forward.

Rugger fans tell me that during all that. “The ball is alive!” Whatever the f**k that means
