The lineout was abolished at the beginning of the 3rd year

The play the ball, and reducing players to 13, happened at the beginning of the 11th year..

Americans don't give a shit about any non American sport. The interest we get in Vegas is predominantly expats and Australian fans travelling. We can showcase and grow it a little but NFL, MLB, NBA is all they give a shit about.

So give up before we even start? Ok, lets call that plan B…

If only our competition had an acronym or something .... anything.

I actually agree with you. NRL Football would work really well.

The problem is that the promoters dont commit to it

There are two rugby codes

One is union one is league

Many current rugby league clubs have been around since before the rfu even existed

1895 was a schism not a breakaway

The name of the game was literally the northern UNION

For 13 years they basically stuck with rugby union rules too

So before someone even knows the name of the game, the need to be familiar with 130 years of backstory…

and you don’t see any issues with that

And there in lies the problem, and the risk. He might be better than Cleary, unlikely but possible but would you take that much of a cap risk? No.

This is where the overall cap rising comes into play. Ideally you'd want your star NRL players to be earning say 10-20% more than any star Union player could. Say a star Union player is earning $1.5mill in union, your star NRL player is earning $1.8mill. (Googling it looks like there's only a couple of Union players on that sort of money with the rest under $1mill https://frontofficesports.com/highest-paid-rugby-players/)

You're not going to risk $1mill+ of your cap on a Union player but you could offer him $1.2mill if its only costing $600k on the cap then it would be worth the risk. It'd be time limited say 2-3 years each player. Takes the risk away whilst attracting their top talent to NRL. I reckon if you seriously scouted across the Union world there'd easily be 50 or so players you'd take the risk on.

IF the next TV deal lands the $100millplus a year increase then its quite possible we could see NRL star earnings heading to around $1.5mill
Hahahahahahaha better than Cleary. Awful opinion even for you

Candian Football CFL was also called Rugby Union for a good while.

Again, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this link, but it's a very interesting article for a couple of different reasons. First of all the writer clearly states that he's from the UAE and witnessing his first game of rugby, which he clearly understands is rugby league not union......he knows there's a difference. Secondly the Masthead for this article lists a Ukraine head office, a country DAZN has links with. Could it be that our Wonderful game has caught the interest of middle eastern investors?
