Yep, just don't expect something like FIFA and you can enjoy it.

Saw some good animations last game with guys over the line struggling to get the ball down. Tonga even dropped one as he went to put it down

Starting to find gaps too easily in Amateur now, will need to move up. Matt Keating had 10+ tackle breaks last game :sarcasm:

Slater isn't the God they normally make him. That was my whole strategy in rll1, pass to Slater. Loving this game though, getting the hang of veteran. Quite a challenge.

For me being a non-gamer type. It's challenging, I am having trouble on Rookie with the attacking side of things.

The training mode is okay, it's basic - It would of been nice to see the tactics practiced though.

A few issues I have noticed. The flat footed players remain in the game, not overly an issue, but it does happen.

A big annoyance for me is the inability to save custom team line-ups. While you can add players to the starting squad for Casual game. You can't actually create and save line-ups. It's annoying when I want to shaft Moltzen out and I have to change him out before playing each time.

Been playing all night and in a bit dissapointed. I think it's my own fault for getting too excited for it. It's ok and all, easily better than the last effort but still alot of bugs and annoying gameplay issues from the last ate still here. I'd still say buy because it's alright and the best rugby league game available. Just be ready for an average game. I played 1 game online and it was laggy as f**k. I got good cable Internet so that ain't an issue.

Yeah the rep teams are a joke. James Tamou was the only prop in the Australian squad and there were 5 hookers. Oh and Matt Bowen was the other starting prop.

Still enjoying it though. Wasn't expecting perfection.

The few online games I've had have been fun too.

So the 8 hour review

Firstly, this game is not a cake-walk,if you think you can just hop into the hardest difficulty without repeated hours of screaming, swearing and interceptions maybe you should stick to Madden

Theres a few glitches, standing still outside centre letting a try in is a pain in the ass as is the contested bombs in your own ingoal, they'll score nine times of out nine and yes,i've picked up George Rose on the wing with a massive overlap only the fullback to beat.....i passed to early and it was bound for failure

Interceptions are a menace and constant threat, players gain and lose form which is a great addition to the game,if you have Tony Williams play like Tony Williams then Tony Williams is going to be the biggest myth in the game no questions asked

Benji Marshall can actually play in this game,a massive bonus for tigers fans while the rest of us just have to sigh it out

I've just won my first game on legend after spamming it all afternoon and let me tell you,Structure is your friend and you want to keep an eye on how many interchanges you have left,i survived the last 20minutes without a single interchange....

If you can have a structured attack and use your second marker as a ball following defender then you will be a force to be reckoned with,i've learnt when and when not to pop an offload which is an artform itself as you can generally either throw an interception or slightly less annoyingly knock the ball on

Grubber kicks into legs are a funny thing, even Brent Kite can do one pretty well but if your not kicking with a back, half or hooker then your weighting may lack consistency

In form (Arrow up) players are f**king beast,if your forwards are out of form i suggest they start on the bench,i have a few forwards in yellow up form (If you dont understand you will learn soon enough) from limiting their minutes and using them as impact players

Certain players are severely underrated in this game,Jamie Lyon is a goal kicker.....can't really bust tackles,Matai is the tackle busting centre but if you want try time as a Manly fan then David Williams and Brett Stewart are your best options (Game imitating life)

The formula to winning

Diving tackles only when behind
Wrap the ball up early in the tackle count as this tackle can go high
X tackle button+Sprint on PS3 is a godsend, this will be your late in the count tackle
Field Position, basically you want the ball up their end all game which is understandable
Picking your spot,Basically you'll throw interceptions all day if you keep spamming cutout pass whilst running
Structured attack,If your in your own half use your pigs, these blokes will wear out fast but limit opposition attacking chances
Second marker follows the ball, basically as a safeguard for line breaks so the fullback rarely has to shut down a 2 on 1
Do not overwork your players, sprinting around in defense i'd suggest always using another player than the one you used for the tackle just gone, just because
Do not ever let a rush of blood decide your attacking route, this will lead to a "harlem globetrotters offensive style" which basically sucks a lot of dick on this game, unless your name is CPU
Completion rate is also a key stat just like in the real NRL

These tips are for serious gamers who wish to play and succeed at the Legend level of Rugby League Live 2,these tips may work for lower levels of the game but may not be as crucial in those said levels

Online has been fine... It has felt like you're just playing the AI no real lag at all.. Might of been a bad opponent you played.

Good post.

I've mostly played online, the issues I have are very minor. The standing centre is probably the worst, they occasionally make zero effort.

This may not be the greatest game, it's the best league game and I find it more fun than rugby challange. Offloads are not overpowered and when playing online in a tight game, it is very fun.

Good honest points mate. I feel the same way: I had a feeling there may be a bit of disappointment due to massive hype about this game as it is League, and the hype it was so much better than previous games. Thats why I was not getting too much hopes up about it. I'm sure I will enjoy it when I get it, but I don't think I will buy it at new release price-I save that rare occasion for absolute classic games. I cannot justify paying $100 (NZ) for a game that isn't outstanding and deserving of instant buy, even to 'support' a League game.
It sounds a good enough game, and it's great to have a new League game, and one that is improving on previous issues, albeit slowly and still has tweaks to be made when another is made. I will definately buy it, just not straight away. Might hire it one rainy weekend day!:)

I still wish codemasters would have a crack at a League game, those guys seem to make Rugby style games better than anyone IMO.

Okay here are my impressions...

Does the game contain bugs and strange little issues - YES... Did anybody expect it not to? should this be a reason to not buy or at least try the game? not for a second!!!

The one major thing from my limited playthrough last night i have noticed is that Big Ant sat down and looked at what is important in Rugby League. The most important part of a game of Rugby League is winning the battle of the ruck and I feel this game has nailed that.

At one point in my first few games I was under the pump. 3 repeat sets against me because of deft grubbers i had to clean up in goal as the chase was coming through. Defence felt solid and responsive and the animations are streets ahead of those used in previous titles i.e no more wrestling moves.

The high balls are a threat and it feels damn good to defuse them.

In attack i could quite get a smooth experience, until i discovered the best method is to push the analogue stick in the direction you are passing from dummy half in conjunction with the pass button. Thus causing the dummy half to jump out and go behind the first reciever to a second deeper running fowared.

This method in conjunction with giving it to the first reciever if they are running on more of an angle away from the markers and my fowareds were starting to be effective and the space created by this momentum and ruck dominance was invaluable.

One question for others though can anybody find the ground with their kicks? i mean both AI and user? because i found the fullbacks and wingers to be to good at getting to the ball on the full and its probably my biggest issue with the game so far.

without a doubt this is the best league/rugby title released to date. I am willing to take it all with a grain of salt but thats because I always knew it would have its fair share of minor issues but if you invest yourself and prepare for the steep learning curb there is a lot of actual Rugby League stratergy in this game, which in the end means a better platform for the next itteration.

Rugby League videogames is finally heading in the right direction.

So the 8 hour review - Snip

Some good tips here....and this is where RLL2 ends up being a jekyll & hyde type of game.

One moment your bashing your way up field fighting for an extra meter or two before booting the ball down field & making the opposition fight their way out of their own territory....just like a real game.

The next moment I pass to Nathan Gardner who takes the first hit up & weighs what....56kg wet & watch him palm & bust his way through 3 forwards. Second hit-up is Paul Gallen who doesnt bust a single tackle the whole game?!?!? WTF?? It should be like tackling a forklift...yet the speedy guys like fullbacks, wingers bust so many tackles & palm off like champs, yet my forwards do nothing....

Passing I have found to be iffy. I can press the quick pass button & nothing happens, no reason why. Other times I will press when I shouldnt because there isnt a player close by & the ball flops onto the ground. I may be doing something wrong here but no consistency...its not a matter of quick press or holding the button, its also not a delay...the player just wont pass.

Tackling is a little funny too....Btw Iam playing Professional. I tried rookie & won 38-6, professional Iam losing close games or getting a horrible hiding. A massive gap between these two levels. In rookie the opposition had 50 missed tackles to my 5!!!! In professional they average out to be the same for both teams.
Often I have ambled up to a player in possession & bounced off him, no he didnt break the tackle, there is no animations, I just bounce off him without making an attempt to tackle.

The career mode looks like Sidhe version, just polished....

The advanced stats & man of the match are a joke. Basically as far as I can tell its most meters gained. Seeing as your fullback & wingers are beasts...they get all the awards. Really advanced stats = one stat?!? Couldnt they have included a few other things??
So far my game stats have reflected the following....

N Gardner.....20 hit ups.....250 meters
Down the bottom
B Gibbs.......2 hit ups......2 meters.

Man of the match N Gardner

I have enjoyed the game & I think it will be better when I get a hang of it. But the bugs in this game shouldnt be in it...if real supporters had designed & tested it.

Overall ..... 7 out of 10.

How are you finding the kicking bud?

My only concern so far is that i have a great set of 6 where i dominate the ruck and make great yards up the middle and all i want to do is plug a kick into the corner and hold the opposition down there but the fullbacks and wingers seem to get to the kick on the full 99% of the time... very annoying or am i doing something wrong?
