Whether people like it or not the premier brand for Rugby League in Australia that should be over virtually EVERYTHING is the NRL.

The AFL brand has actually taken over as the brand for Aussie Rules in Australia EVEN the VFL has changed to AFL Victoria (the competition is still called the VFL). That brand awareness is HUGE.

I would say that even NZ and the South Pacific, South Africa etc, areas that will come under Australia's influence as such should be aligned with the NRL Brand eg. eg. NZNRL (in conjunction with a TOTAL overhall of the NZRL) , FijiNRL etc. The NRL needs to see itself as becoming a recognised brand across the planet.

It would be better if RL across the world could CLARIFY its brand together but due to the split in identity with Super League and NRL it is not really possible but atleast it could be aligned within the Southern and Northern hemispheres. (and please don't suggest trying to take 'Rugby' as our identity, that war HAS been lost - use it where it is useful but we need to ultimately distinguish ourselves as a unique sport at the pinnacle of all impact and contact sports in the world)

Only problem is that NRL doesn't actually reflect the competition! The game is not National in Australia and inculdes an International component.

The greatest obstacle to unification of the RL bodies is definately the people who hold power in them.

Around origin time, it was amazing to see the same QRL directors in place who were there 20 years ago. It is not far off the truth that they hold these positions till death! One ARL/QRL rep looked like death warmed up already when viewed on TV. It's a very corrupt system and unfortunately, these old fogies already have equally inept replacements in store who will perpetuate the oldfirm for decades to come.

It is amazing we only really see the QRL big wigs around origin time because that is the only RL event that has been successful (thru the efforts of two men who have since passed) and they virtually live off that & NRL grants. What other league events have they successfully introduced? The QLD Cup, I think not?

For non QLD members, if you go to a QRL ground (apart from say Easts) the grounds are virtually unchanged. The QRL, for example, has never had a plan/forced clubs to bring their grounds into the 21st century. Where have all the pokie revenues gone? That's right, improving the comfort of pokie players. Stuff the spectator. The QLD Cup looks like park football on the ABC given the lack of creature comforts.

We need a QRL who can see beyond origin and look to raising standards in other aspects of the game here in QLD. I've seen one QRL employee jump ship when the titans threw him a job, lasted a week when they realised what an unprofessional gimp he was and walk back into his old QRL job, leave again when a better job came along, to stuff that..and you guessed it, go back into his old QRL job.

The mind boggles...
