Rule tweaks incoming?

The six again rule absolutely needs to be consigned to the annals of history. It's a f**kin awful rule and these trigger happy dickhead refs call 6 agains for every little touch, especially against my f**kin team it seems.

It was the same when they were just calling penalties. They would ref one way all game and then if the defence gave away a penalty inside the 20 they suddenly had to get off the tackled player in half a second otherwise it would be another penalty. 3 penalties in a row and out comes the sin bin. It was more horrible.

The common denominator is the refs. You could have the best system in the world and they would manage to f**k it up.

Couldn't find the rule change thread.

Geez, I hate the tweak against a penalty when the drop-out doesn't go 10.

Just rewards mediocrity as I said at the time. Titans would be out of sight tonight under the old rule.

Why not give the non-offending team the option?

More BS drop-outs in the main game. Rewarding mediocrity or coaches gaming the rules?

Give the non-offending team the option.

The short drop outs are a good contest for the ball.
are you saying if the drop out doesn’t go 10 you want it to be a penalty kick for goal?
I want to see less kicks for goal personally. Kicks for goal are rugby.

Its probably the worst rule brought in under the PVL admin.

It makes our game look amateurish. Almost like union.

So are short drop outs.

Okay but I’ve never heard league fans be damning in the past about rugby for all its high drop kicks. Whereas league fans and non league fans alike have damned the rugby code for all the kicks at goal. That’s because kicks at goal are boring as f**k and not a sports contest whereas drop out / kick variety is reasonably good sport.

Under the new rules, th receiving team should be able to play at ball before it goes 10m. That gives balance of risk/reward to the change imo.

They changed it to eliminate any risk to encourage more of them. They won't change it to that because they want more shit short dropouts not less.

The issue as always with the 6 again is getting a 6 again when rather than a proper penalty when the scoreline is within 2 points in the last few minutes.

Then scrum penalty option of penalty or re-pack the scrum, is working. It will also work for drops not going the 10 or out on the full. Though wouldnt work for kickoffs, as penalty will almost be the preferred option.

But they should be counted as a 6-again penalty, just like not playing the ball properly is in fact a 6-again turnover penalty, and should be counted as a 6-again event.

But to get clean up the ruck you need a ruck referee blowing 6 agains for ruck infringements.

My only problem with all the short drop out is what does that say about the way the game is now with teams being so comfortable defending their own try line. No football code or ball sport should be like that.

This.

If we get rid of six agains and just blow penalties, we'll go back to the same problem.

They need to get a lot less nit picky with it and more consistent, one tackle the defender will lay on the attacker for a age and no 6 again and few minutes later the defender is marginally slow and its 6 again.

Classic tactic to see how far you can push a ref before he reacts. Bellamy has done it for years

Knowing no referee will ever blow penalties/6 agains for EVERY infringement

Their KPIs dictate something like 10 penalties and 6 6-agains. Blow more than this in a relatively even manner and NRL HQ will consider sacking the ref

They teach refs from a young age to know their penalty counts

Young referees get hounded for refereeing whats in front of them

With the latest ko I reckon the long kick off and drop out will go the way of the shoulder charge. Not sure how they will tweak it but maybe a penalty if the ball goes further than 20 metres?

And before anyone calls me a soft merkin, I'm not soft (merkin, yes), but they're going to eliminate head injury risk and the collision off the long kick off is a head injury risk.

And for what it's worth, rather than 6 again why not just make it 3 more tackles for an infringement?

There seems to be less 6 agains in the last 2 weeks of finals. Perhaps there’s an suggestion for it to be used less, or a direction from refs boss to just let the games flow
