I don't think we need any more players for 2012.

From our 35 man squad for next year we've got every position covered:

Fullbacks
Atkins
Barba
Burt
Hayne
Mullaney
Sio

Outside backs
Atkins
Blair
Brien
Burt
Hayne
Horo
Loko
Morgan
Ryan
Savage
Sio
Smith
Tautai
Tonga
Tonga

Halves
Barba
Burt
Hayne
Maitua
McGuire
Mullaney
Paulo
Roberts
Sandow

Edge forwards
Blair
Brien
Horo
Lasalo
Loko
Maitua
Moimoi
O'Hanlon
Paulo
Penese
Roberts
Ryan
Smith
Tautai
Tonga

Central back-rowers
Brien
Hindmarsh
Keating
Shackleton
Smith
Plus this spot can be filled by any front rower or edge forward

Props
Allgood
Mannah
Mannah
Moimoi
Poore
Shackleton
Tautai
Terepo

Hookers
Keating
McGuire
Smith

The only position we're a bit skinny on is at hooker, and even Roberts or Maitua could play there if needed. Plus there's that bloke with the weird name that Wenty just signed.

Switched on for season 2012, Willie will be a good destructive forward acquisition.
Besides Fui, we don't have another 40 to 60 minute intimidator genuinely putting fear in the opposition.
Psychologically, an experienced, skillful, big, mobile, wide running forward with a point to prove, with unfinished business, determined to make right what has been made wrong (mostly of his doing/reactions) in the NRL, is a step in the right direction.
We need more mongrel in our 2012 pack.
After the rebirth of Reni, a reborn Willie may not be out of the question.
Willie Tonga, Reni, Roberts & Mason get on well with each other.
If Kearney, Arthurs & co sort out all the mental issues and Willie trains hard and tough, staying focused, this strong Bulldog connection/mateship can only benefit our 2012 season.
Then comes SBW for 2013?

WILLIE Mason may be forced to work on a greenhouse tomato farm in northern NSW if he wants a paying contract to play rugby league in Australia.

The ex-Kangaroo has just one offer on the table at the moment - from the Guyra Super Spuds.

NRL clubs yesterday steered well and truly away from signing Mason, who is eyeing a return to the NRL after a stint with Toulon in the Top 14 French rugby union competition. Mason, 31, will struggle to secure an NRL club after leaving Canterbury, Sydney Roosters, North Queensland and Hull Kingston Rovers in turbulent circumstances.

The Courier-Mail spoke to several NRL clubs yesterday, with all politely declined any interest in the former NSW State of Origin enforcer.

However Guyra Super Spuds - located between Armidale and Glen Innes - may come to Mason's rescue.

Club official Terry Vidler said Mason could be given work on the local tomato farm, called Top of the Range, and be paid $250 a game.

"I'd have to put it to a meeting but, yes, we'd take him," Vidler said. "He would cause a lot of interest in our town. We've got a tomato farm out here, it's a big deal. He could work there. Armidale is 40 minutes down the road so maybe he could get something as well.

"We don't have a lot of money and players play for nothing but we could get him some. Maybe $250 a game. Our numbers weren't great last year so we are trying to import a few players."

The Guyra Super Spuds compete in the Country Rugby League's Group 19 and are multiple premiership winners.

Last month, Mason tweeted from the south of France: "I'm f...ing so over rugby".

It seems his first love, league, has once again won over the forward.

Mason wants to come back to the NRL to conclude a controversial career but it appears he may have trouble actually finding a game in the top flight.

Sydney Roosters chief executive Steve Noyce said: "We have placed our future in youth. That is the direction we will continue to take."

Sharks chairman Damian Irvine added: "We're not interested, definitely not."

North Queensland football manager Peter Parr said: "We are happy with the roster we have, particularly the young forwards coming through."

"Surely no one would take Willie back," said one NRL club CEO, who did not want to be named. He said Mason may be completely brushed by NRL clubs.

surely we're not as desperate as the Guyra Super Spuds

Guyra's claim to fame is the tomato farm and their footy team is called the super spuds.
I don't get it.

Willie's a much bigger risk than just whether or not he can perform on the field - if he's not up to first grade you can drop him.

The biggest risk is that he can come in and undermine the club's leaders and the new culture they're trying to build. Sure we could piss him off if he was found being a negative influence but by the time that kind of thing is discovered the damage could already be done.

Exactly. The Bulldogs and Roosters were glad to see the back of him for above mentioned reasons. He's proven to be a disruption off the field before that's not worth the risk when you consider he's a has been now anyway. Mason seems to think he's bigger than the club he plays for and he only has himself to blame for the way his career has panned out over the last few years.
