Wtf are you talking about. You act like the team poorly performing and poor systemic issues that negatively affect us are conflicting statements.

Before last night the 3 teams with the longest wait since a GF was Canberra, Knights and us. All 3 are development clubs so yes a huge part is the club being run poorly but compare it to the Storm with 0 Victorians in their squad after 20 years. What benefit is there to develop talent?

Be smart enough to manage and keep the right ones (Graham,Lewis,Coote) comp winners in the last few years. We are simply incompetent

    Hindsight is amazing.

All that time and money we invest and we get to flip a coin to decide which player will kick on and which player won’t.

A coin flip isn’t sufficient reward for the work we do, regardless of the club’s competency.

Our incompetence is a far bigger issue

So keep Coote and lose Moylan? Lewis' attitude is why he left here.

That doesn't explain the other 2 sides either. Not every club that develops is incompetent either

Lewis' attitude comes down to the club being a joke more than anything. He could have been a 300 game player and out greatest but that means nothing because we are nothing

Graham and Lewis are the only players I have any regrets whatsoever in leaving. Blake might become another. That’s a damn good record for a club that’s churned our the talent we have in the last decade.

Cleary for Bennett is looking grim I must say.

The Storm are a development club too. They get their juniors from Queensland, that's all. It's not like all of ours are from Penrith these days.

Have we really produced a lot of talent? I guess it depends on your definition.

We produce a lot of first graders, but we don’t produce many genuine stars.

Most of the guys we’ve had play origin have just played one or two matches. The last genuine star we produced was Michael Jennings or Wade Graham.

This is a misconception. Just because they aren't from Victoria doesn't mean they don't develop them. They have systems in QLD and have given debuts to a lot of the guys in their squad.

I think Woods brings variety. Granted his play the balls are slow but I do think he bends the line & also has a good offload.

Looks that way, as we are looking for a right centre to replace Whare I’d seriously like us to have a look at Enari Tuala, specialist right centre, off contract and not being renewed by the cowboys, had his development farked by Green playing him left wing when he’s a right side specialist, I’d also like us to have a shot at Jai Field and Lachlan Timms from the dragons CC cup squad, Field as a fullback and Timms as a bench prop

Is that how a team in a developing state should be doing things? If us and Canberra took that same attitude we'd have no kids left

My theory is we don't give them enough time in lower grades developing is why this happens. Maybe instead of developing guys at 15. Should do Storm way and pick the cream of crop at u18's level instead

It's the finishing school that's the problem, IMHO.

That is exactly what we do and I don't see why you have a problem with it. It was Gus's strategy to develop locally and recruit outside of the local area when we had shortages in the local pool of talent. Kikau being the most obvious example of that.

The Storm's local pool of talent is so small they have to recruit juniors elsewhere. I don't understand why it matters whether they are developed from St Marys or from Wellington NZ. We put the effort into training them and bringing them through the grades. That's development.

It's exactly what the Storm do too. How often do the Storm announce a big name signing? Usually they are announcing releasing another player due to the salary cap. They turned Bryan Norrie into a respectable metre eating prop who won a premiership. With us he was meh. They are absolutely a development club in every sense of the word and in fact, they do it so well they even develop established first graders into better players. Genius.

If you analyse the Roosters line up, most of their players were developed by them as well. They sign the best juniors they can to top up their own local talent and put them through their systems.

Clearly, the Storm and the Roosters have the best player development of any of the clubs. That is why they continually produce quality players and remain competitive. It is lazy to say they get the chequebook out and TPA's allow them to buy the best talent. They have quality development systems which produce plenty of juniors and juniors are signed for a lot less than external recruits. This lowers the average salary of their players. That then allows them to sign the best talent if it becomes available. Tedesco is an example of that. They let their own junior, RTS, go to the Warriors where he won a dally M and they replaced him with Tedesco. He is now close to being the best player in the game now. Would he have been as good at the Tigers with their terrible coaching, training methods and back office chicanery?
